  • Excellent binding machine!
Works very well! Punches nice & clean. Seems extremely well made & durable! Very handy for homeschooling!

  • Seems to be a pretty solid spiral binder
I haven't done a lot of ring binding in the last few years, but it does come up from time-to-time for craft projects, etc. My last binder could handle multiple types of rings - spiral, claw, cages - but it was mostly plastic and I found over time the alignment combs would break making it more and more difficult to bind pages. This binder only handles small spiral coils - which will max at 15-20 pages - but otherwise, it seems to be a pretty solid unit. The first thing I noted was the weight. While the outer shell appears to be a heavy duty plastic, the base and guts (read die punch) are clearly metal. Unboxing the unit, you are first presented with a punch sheet to help clean and prime the metal punch. I was surprised at the thickness of this sheet - which you're supposed to punch at least six times - and even more surprises when the punch glided through the sheet with very little effort. I then tested multiple stacked pages and the result was no different. There's not a lot in terms of set-up on this machine - you simply attach the handle and it is ready to go. The binder has an adjustment for the size of paper you are using as well as three depth settings on the back which adjust the margin of the holes from the edge of the page. On top of the machine, there is a rubber spindle which, when turned on, will feed the spiral ring through your punched pages with only a little bit of effort. While this process can be done manually, I found it works fairly well if you give the spindle a hand by pre-threading the first few holes. After that, the spindle with feed the binding through with a couple a stalls here and there - mostly if you move the pages out of alignment. I really liked that the page alignment for the punch has a hole placement diagram. This allows you to position any compatibly-sized page so that you can avoid punched edges. What I didn't like is the stickiness of the collection tray. I've found that it does not remove easily and thus, you inevitably scatter small confetti dots everywhere when you try to empty it. The set comes with 100 pieces of spiral coils as well as a pair of snips to cut the coil perfectly to your desired length. So overall, I feel the electric feed is a nice feature, but maybe a little unnecessary since it skips and feeding the coil is just as easy to do manually. I also feel the disposal try could use some improvement to make emptying the machine less messy. Other than that, I think it is a solid choice at a fair price. Clearly it is going to perform well and will last for decades with little care, so if your looking for a binder that uses the smaller coils and will handle small pamphlets/presentations, you're probably not going to be disappointed. ... show more

  • Works great, with a learning curve
This thing does have a bit of a learning curve - but to be fair, I had never used a binder machine before. So maybe operating this is totally normal, I was just completely new. Either way, the binder itself feels nice and heavy duty, I didn't see or hear any parts of it during use that made me think it would crap out in a month, but time will tell! ... show more
