I've never bought any of Magpul's stocks before so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was surprised when I pulled the stock out of its box and felt how sturdy it was. Although the instructions could be a little more clear installation was very simple and only took about 10 minutes. I have a bias towards Magpul products so I was glad to be able to use PMAGs. One is included and is a newer brown follower & lock plate variant that is made for the Hunter American. Be sure to check before buying more of them. The rifle feels like a tank now which is both good and bad (depending on who you are). It's good because the rifle feels less fragile but the stock adds considerable weight. More than one would expect. With the factory stock the rifle weighed about 6.5 lbs (the factory stock weighs ~1.8 lbs). Now it weights at least 8 (the Magpul Hunter weighs ~3.3 lbs ) without an optic mounted & unloaded. If you plan to hunt with this and live in a place where deer stands aren't common you ARE going to need a sling. If you're a bench rest/tactical long range shooting enthusiast this will be just fine and is actually lighter compared to some other rigs for the same purpose. The length of pull is ~13.00"-15.00" depending on your preference. The LOP is fully adjustable and additional spacers are included that you can add/remove for a more precise fit. The cheek riser is available in different heights (0.00",0.25",0.50", & 0.75". 0.50" came installed on mine) and can easily be swapped out for a proper cheek weld. If you plan to use Magpul's MS4 QD sling like I did make sure you also pick up the Type 1 QD sling mounting kit that fits into the cups in the rear of the stock. The Type 2 kit is needed if you want ambidextrous QD mounting options. The stock doesn't come with them (why that is is beyond me) and they're necessary for using a sling with two QD swivels. If don't care for QD slings a traditional sling can be looped around a "pillar" that is integral on both sides of the stock. A MLOK QD mount/sling loop can be attached to the forend for the other swivel/loop. I'd also suggest using a strong tool when removing the QD cups in the rear of the stock (you'll have to remove both of them to install the Type 1 QD mount kit). Many forks were bent trying to remove just one. The forend is quite wide (2.3" at its max) and has 3 M-LOK slots on the 3,6, & 9 o'clock positions. The 6 o'clock position also has two dimples for traditional sling swivel studs for sling and bipod mounting (they're placed before and after the 3 M-LOK slots). It has a generous barrel channel that should allow your rifle's barrel to be free-floated even with a heavier/thicker barrel.

I built a Ruger American 308 and was looking for one of these stock assemblies and was shocked at how much Magpul wanted for these but this vendor on Amazon had them ridiculously inexpensive and I was worried that they were some form of knockoff or missing parts and I was pleasantly surprised it is beautiful and worked better than expected.

First: There is no magazine included with this. I confirmed that with Magpul months ago that they had stopped shipping these with magazines. They need to do a better job of making this known. For what it's worth, I've seen good reviews on Amend2 mags, and they are cheaper than Magpul. However, I haven't used one myself yet. I think shipping them without magazines may be due to state or local law issues. Second, this stock will radically change your firearm. I highly recommend it. It is heavy, but solid as a result. The bolt will hit the comb upon removal (not in regular function), but if you take it out to that point, rotate the bolt upside-down either to the left or right, and it will come out. Do the reverse to get it back in. If you're like me and mounted a scope as low as possible with the original stock, you will need to remount the scope much higher due to the height of the comb on this stock. I got the gray model because it was second-hand open-box (and I saved a bundle). I was surprised to see that it was more of a charcoal color, which I love with it's minor contrast against the matte black of the rifle.

Let me start with this. It is a massive upgrade. MLOK slots, adjustable length of pull, adjustable stock height, and a more comfortable grip angle are all worth it. It took me maybe 10 minutes to swap the stock and most of that was getting Ruger’s removed. The only downside, it is noticeably heavier. It has an aluminum frame embedded in the stock. The extra weight will help with recoil and should cause less flinching which helps with accuracy. But if you’re looking for a lightweight carry around in the woods stock, may not be the best option

this is a must upgrade! Most people said something about the weight. look at any aftermarket $800 stock. they all weigh more. I'm a hunter and I don't like to carry anything extra weighing me down. This is negligible. If you cant handle this , you cant climb where you need to to be a consistent hunter anyway. MUCH MORE SOLID PLATFORM. This is now a solid hunter /marksmen rifle! Fits tight and the magazines( WHOA!) Awesome!! Feeds and ejects great. The small amount( its not that much in felt weight) of extra lbs. is worth it. You can adjust the butt for your eye to come right in line with your scope. The grips are way better and are much more natural . The barrel is completely free floated.. this $225 purchase will put this right up with any $1K and under gun. The Ruger already shoots like a $1K gun. Side note- while it was disassembled, I lightened the trigger and its much better- its easily adjustable . Just look on youtube. LOOKS TERRIFIC.
