  • Outstanding value. Best DeWalt product I own.
Style: Handheld Light Only
I was gifted a cheap brand work light similar to this, primarily for walking our dogs at night. I found it extremely useful and an amazing gift. However, after about two months the batteries wouldn't even hold a two-minute charge, and the adjustable handle always fell to a different position. Having a full range of DeWalt tools and batteries, and knowing I really liked the concept from that gift, I bought this. Wow! This thing is amazing. Battery life - I have been using it for over a year, almost every single day, and for multiple trips a day during the short days of late fall to early spring. In addition, I use it in my workshop and attic for extra lighting. I have only gone through one recharge of the 20v 5ah battery I use, and even then I just decided to recharge it even though battery was at 2 out of 3 bars. Features - grip and balance - With the battery mentioned above, the balance of weight is very good. In addition, the grip on it makes it comfortable and easy to hold on to. Has not even slipped in my hand once. - pivoting head - Very solid. Stays in place. Allow you to pivot the light up a little, so when you walk it shines where you need it without having to hold it awkwardly. - light strength - I usually leave it on high power. Low is a softer light, but still has good rage, I just prefer to see things a little more easily. Even with that, the battery life is unreal. - the built in hanging hook is rock solid and sturdy ... no chance of it pulling free - durability - it has been knocked off tables, shoe bench, and other temporary places .. always onto concrete or tile flooring ... absolutely rock solid with no damage Just an absolutely outstanding device. I feel like this will last for over a decade without any issues. That is saying something in the world of tools these days. ... show more

  • I don't think this line is suited for my application
Style: Handheld Light Only
I have been a mechanic of many forms throughout my life thus far, from a diesel mechanic in the Marine Corps, an electric motor mechanic, an auto tech at my father's 40+ year business, to my current position as a field service tech specializing in servicing light and heavy equipment and tools used in industrial energy and power construction. Admittedly my current position is probably the most hellish environment in which a tool could ever serve, but I take great pride in my collection and take care of my gear as best I possibly can while under serious time constraints. However, I often have helpers that I can't always monitor as many of us do, so to be fair, there may have been some rough treatment that I'm not aware of to this light. I started acquiring Dewalt's 20v line after purchasing the 1/2" drive high torque brushless impact after using mostly air tools during my career. My first location in my new position was remote, it was the dead of winter and from 30 degrees down to the single digits most days, and always wet and ridiculously muddy. I was tasked with keeping 5 excavators fitted with cluster hammers for drilling rock up and running. Three to five times a day I swapped out worn drill rig heads with my fresh rebuilds, each time required the removal of 26 1 1/2 nuts from 8 inch bolts that were being brutalized from vibration 70-90 hours a week. Two of the 5ah batteries could get one removed and another installed, with the occasional breaker bar or nut splitter. That impact shaved over an hour from my time and saved my back, I was sold. I became deeply invested in this line of tools despite noticing that industrial contractors here in the southeast seem to be moving away from dewalt and mostly to Milwaukee. I began having an issue with that impact a couple months in to that job, sometimes when using it, especially when nose up, its battery would lose contact and I would have to shake it to get it moving again. It took a while before I could really examine what was happening, but now I've experienced the same problem with multiple tools in the line including this light. Obviously I was working the tool hard, and it generates a massive amount of heat for a battery powered tool. But it would make its own plastic body soft enough that if it laid against anything else too soon after heavy use, there would be impressions left in it and all of the writing on its side was illegible after a couple months and that was out in 30 degree weather. The fact that it was capable of doing what I was using it for is an incredible feat in itself, but I do believe it should reach a thermal shutdown before this could happen and provide the user with a little security that they aren't about to throw $500 down the drain because they're too busy to sit it aside to cool in the middle of a job, time is money. Later I realized that my batteries where deforming from heat, and the plastic became brittle and has cracked and broken on several of them, one of them was used exclusively with this light. This light is not rugged, and do not expect it to be one to toss in the tool bag with everything else and beat around in the bed of your truck. The other reviewers mentioning it's tendancy to tip over when tilted are right, and it's my opinion that Dewalt should have made rubber bumpers that protrude far enough away from the lens to prevent impact with some things. In my case the plastic around the lens cracked up and fell apart and allowed the lens to fall off. It's been zip tied for about 6 months. You can tighten the floppy tilting mechanism by tightening a torx screw under the sticker over the joint on the left hand side with the lens facing you, but don't pierce the other side because there is wiring that comes all the way to the surface of the hole that's covered only by a sticker. Later another battery overheated after the light had been left on on the workbench, I have no idea for how long and the plastic at the base cracked in the front and rear. I had to epoxy it back together and install my own bolt with a nut through the plastic sleeve on its back after it all broke apart and became misshapen from heat. I find the hook isn't as useful as I would like it to be, it's more for storage than for positioning for light. With all of that said it's still my favorite light, there's just something about the pattern it casts that I think makes it perfect for supplemental light at the bench. After experiencing these issues with overheating, plastic breaking and deforming and batteries breaking apart, I guess they aren't tough enough for my specific use. I've steadily been building my Milwaukee kit after seeing them survive projects with people giving them a beating, but I might run in to the same grief with them in a years time who knows. I can't always get air to where I'm going these days so hopefully this doesn't mean I would have to purchase new tools every year to keep up the speed they provide me, because now I'm spoiled and I'm sure that's what I'd do. ... show more

  • Great Little Work Light
Style: Handheld Light Only
Use all the time for all sorts of jobs wherever light is needed. Perfect for working on cars in garage, going up in the attic, whatever. Wish the hinge was a little stiffer but it works without a problem. Recommended.

  • Reliable dewalt
Style: Handheld Light Only
This is a very bright and durable work light that’s perfect for garages or job sites. It’s easy to position and the LED output lights up a large area. The build quality feels solid like most DEWALT tools. A great accessory if you already use the 20V battery system because it uses that type of battery. It also has different levels of light when you click the trigger which I love along with the handle and hook giving it the ability to hang ... show more

  • Great Product
Style: Handheld Light Only
This is my second one. They work great at providing targeted light. The battery life is good and it generates minimal heat. It goes without saying that it helps to have already invested in a Dewalt 20v ecosystem. I own much of what they sell.

good task lighting and pretty bright. i bought two of these for working on cars. the head does not fully swivel so some applications maybe challenging to get light where you need it.
