So pretty and solar pump working fine

I've already gotten compliments on this solar fountain bird bath, and the birds love it! My blue jay visited it in the first hour and "Christianed" it lol. I ordered the turquoise to match my patio furniture and it looks just like the color in the listing. I'm a grandma and was able to put it together in minutes. It is a little lightweight, so if you have it in a windy spot like I do you may need to weigh it down with more than the anchor stakes provided. Mine in sitting in my flower bed so I just put a few rocks on the base and a few colored glass and polished stones in the basin. We had a roaring windstorm the 2nd day and it never moved. The trickiest part was figuring out where to attached those "straws" which are meant to keep the pump centered in the basin. There are 4 small slits on the back of the round pump IN THE FOAM. It was very hard to see but worked great once I spotted them. The one slit was too short so I just had to clip it a little longer so the straw prong could fit into the hole in the plastic under the foam. Remember to hold the pump under the basin water for a few seconds to get the air out. It takes quite a while to power up but looks great once it's going. You can use just the regular pump "nub" as it comes for a simple and low spray, or snap on one of the 4 nozzles for different looks and number of sprays. You can also move the little switch on the bottom of the round pump to low, off, or high spraying. Beware - the high spray on mine got a bit wild. I wondered why my basin was empty one morning then realized the spray was so high it was squirting water OUT of the basin! But my plants loved it. :) Because I have to run it on the low spray the splash sound is pretty quiet. My fountain doesn't get a full day of sun so it doesn't last all night and early morning, but that's due to my in-town location and I still I really like this solar birdbath fountain!

An amazing looking bird bath with some tricky/questionable functionality

This is a fantastic bird bath / fountain combination in theory and concept. In design and practical use, it leaves a little to be desired. I love that the fountain disc is solar powered, but it is literally solar-powered, which means that the disc has to be exposed to direct sunlight *at all times* in order for it to work. As soon as a cloud passes overhead, it chokes and sputters like someone choking on a drink they swallowed the wrong way: Fits and spurts. When it's bright and sunny, the volume of the water that spews forth reaches for the heavens themselves, and it looks really cool. The trick to keeping this kind of functionality is to constantly clean the water of debris, keep the solar disc free of lime build up, and keep the thing directly under the sun. The fountain base, pedestal, and basin are really nice. They're an outdoor resin that could be considered a little flimsy depending on how securely you have it mounted into the ground, but as far as color and design, it looks really nice. I got the greenish-blue patina version. A minor irritation is that it comes with three spikes to secure the base to the ground but you really need four to maximize leveling it out. If it's not level the solar disc floats to one side of the fountain's basin and there goes all of your water, shooting up to the heavens and rapidly back down to your lawn (meaning you'll need to fill it more often on a breezy day or if your leveling skills aren't so good). There is no battery to store a charge. Again it's 100% solar powered, so the sun is your battery. The first one I got, the pump on the solar panel didn't work. I had to call in (write in, actually) to take the seller up on the warranty and they gave me what I thought was a little more pushback than should have been necessary but I was able to provide a video of the solar disc pump doing absolutely noting in full sunlight. They eventually made good on their warranty promise and sent me a new unit. The replacement worked just fine. The birds who do use this love it and get really playful in the basin early in the mornings. I'm glad to have this as an addition to our yard but it comes with some functional tradeoffs, so just be educated before you purchase it.

pump isn’t great but bird bath is beautiful

I agree with other posters about having to mount the pump somehow in the middle of the bird bath because when it runs full spray it floats and sprays outside the birdbath using all the water and you have to constantly refill. It’s been over 24 hrs and yesterday was a day of full sun. I put rocks in it to stabilize the pump (the rocks in the middle on top are not in the way of the solar panels, they are there to weigh the pump down so it is fully submerged in water-as that was an issue too). First day I had a really pretty fountain spraying constantly. But on the second full day it sprays only about 4 inches high and then nothing. Then sprays again about 4” high. I’ve ordered another one to see if perhaps this pump is defective and will update when I know. It’s all pretty. I can’t wait to see birds bathing! **UPDATE** After another 24 hours of use, I realized, as others have mentioned, that it doesn't store the solar energy; the bubbler works based on how much sun it's getting at the time. It was sunny on my second day of use, but there were some clouds, so I believe that is why the bubbler wasn't spraying full spray. To note: I filled the stand with sand to weigh it down since I can't use the stakes (My bird bath is sitting on top of a septic pump cover) and I decided I would add another rock to cover one of the panels to decrease the full spray so I wouldn't have to refill as often. It gives just enough bubble in full sun now so hopefully the water stays agitated enough during the daylight hours (will not run at night or on cloudy days) so that mosquitoes won't breed there. I think decreasing the fountain of the bubbler will also work better since I get some wind bursts that would typically blow the water out of the bowl even with it mounted in the middle of the bowl. The smaller the fountain, the more water stays in the bowl. To me, this is a great find and worth the money. I've now watched birds bathing and drinking water. Couldn't be happier with my purchase. Now.. does anyone know what I could put in there to keep the algae at bay? I don't have any yet, and can't find any older real copper pennies. Should I just buy a piece of copper? **2nd UPDATE: I still LOVE the birdbath! But the pump already stopped working! Guess I'll have to purchase a new pump. One that will stay centered so that I don't have to use rocks.

Lightweight and cheap material

It is beautiful, but quite lightweight. My husband and I filled it up with sand to help make it sturdier. I originally gave it a higher star rating because the birds did use it and it was easy to put together, BUT after just having it for a year it has HOLES and leaks really bad now. Not sure what happened to it but already broken with no way to fix it. I wasn't expecting for it to already be basically useless after only 1 year! Not even a full year. I am not sure I would buy again since it is obviously cheap material. So I would not recommend this fountain, personally might just try to find a sturdier bird bath rather than these cheap lightweight ones.

Pretty good birdbath, a little overpriced. It looks like metal, but it's plastic. Goes together easily. It's light so you probably will have to stake it down. The fountain works good in the sun, but the water does evaporate or blow away, so I have to fill mine every day or so. The instructions say not to let the bowl get empty, because the pump will keep running if there is sunlight on it.

Fails cosmetically - Painted surface flakes away after a few months.

It works fine as a bird bath. Hard to screw that up. I gave it 2 stars for “cosmetic’ reasons. After a few months of use the blue painted surface of the “bath” part has steadily been flaking away which causes the solar fountain filter (purchased as a bundle) to be cleaned every few days. As photo shows most of the paint has eroded away and now mostly a black basin.

Good value, attractive

This is 4.5 stars. Looks great, does what it says. The only 1/2 star downside is having to super glue the pump to the basin (see other reviews), which they should have fixed in the design but is a minor quibble. Your major issue will be placement and wind... see below. The birds like it, once they figured out we'd meant it for them and not for us. Our robins used to bathe in the puddles on the driveway after I'd washed our cars, so their standards aren't too high! Maybe they liked the detergent <g>. You're looking for a bird bath because you like the birds in your yard - this is a good product to begin with. In our area, concrete bird baths are $120+ at a minimum, new or used, and have to be power washed or scrubbed hard to get rid of algae. Colorful plastic ones are usually attractive but lightweight, easily tipped over in a breeze. This product is a good trade-off between the two. We got the green version and it's close enough to a copper patina look that we liked it a lot. Looks great in the yard. We glued the pump to the basin because we liked the look of a mini-fountain, and the pump works as advertised. However, be aware that the pump needs FULL SUN to work. Even a few leaves shading the pump solar panels will make it stop. Since birds like a bit of shade for coolness and overhead protection from predators this may affect where you place the bath and how often the pump works. Don't bother using the pump if you're putting this under a tree canopy. It's still a good deal if you don't use the pump. As noted, wind is an issue. The stakes provided will stabilize the pump for most situations except for high March winds. You can add your own deeper stakes for that. But... the pump can shoot the water at least a foot into the air, or more, depending on which of 4 stream patterns included in the package that you choose. With even a mild breeze the wind will push the fountain water over the edge of the bath, running down the water level in the bath. If you use the pump you'll have to keep an eye on the water level to make sure the birds have enough depth. We generally have to refill the bath every 1-2 days because of this issue. It's a pitcher of water at most. UPDATE Feb 2023 Wouldn't change anything in the prior review. However, the pump has a filter that needs to be cleaned and the instructions don't say anything about it. Easy enough... you need to pull the solar panel up and off the fountain spigot to get to the filter sponge, which is easily rinsed. Our filter gathers debris and slows the pump down about every 8 weeks, a bit quicker with heavy bird traffic. A lot of different species use the bath but the robins seem to have a protection racket going when it comes to whose turn it is.
