  • Very nice Midi Controller with onboard Sounds
I ordered this little controller to be able to take with me while on spring break with the kids. Turns out that it is much better than I expected. I used it with the garage band and my iPhone to lay down some thoughts and Ideas for future use. It has onboard sounds that make it easy to use from a beginner to a seasoned musician this little keyboard/controller is simple to use and very portable. It does not have speakers so you will have to connect it to some type of sound amplifier. I just connect it to a very small, powered laptop speaker. The touch and velocity sensitivity keys work well for a controller in this price point. It will connect via a usb interface to a computer or via Bluetooth which is very cool. The pads work well and have a nice feel to them as well as being backlit in multiple colors. It has 37 keys which give you plenty of room to be creative without being crowded. I carried it in a backpack and set it up on picnic tables out in the park where we were camping and enjoyed the time working with it. It seems to be very durable and well built. I have only scratched the surface of what it will do but I am very pleased with its performance so far especially for a controller at this price point. ... show more

  • Avoid
The keys/pads feel terrible and respond terrible. There's too much lag/delay even when playing with the built in sounds. It's a nice idea and I hoped I could look passed the issues other reviewers mentioned, but it's not up to snuff for production or live performances.

  • Tons of functionality
The media could not be loaded. This keyboard is incredibly flexible for the price. It has 37 keys, which is a lot more freedom than the 25 key nektar keyboard I already had. The keys are smaller than a real piano, and the keys are basic spring action, but for synths, that action may actually be desirable. There's aftertouch, bluetooth, built in arpeggiators, built in synth, and a bunch more. The battery power is also really cool- though it makes me wish there were speakers for an all-in-one, but I understand why that would be excluded (they'd sound awful at such a small size). You WILL need to read the manual. A first note- To turn on velocity, press and hold "Globe" and turn knob 4 for keys, and 5 for pads. This gives you different curves for velocity sensitivity. Otherwise it just triggers everything at 100% (setting 4 triggers all at a value of 128). If you are using the built in synth mode, you need to press and hold "patch," then turn knobs 1-4 to pick a voice. Otherwise you will get no sound. The built in synth is pretty fun. It sounds great and terrible all at once, considering the dated synth tech. If you like making videogamey chiptune-ish or 80s synth sounds, you'll have a lot of fun with the synth mode. It's also nice that I don't have to boot up a DAW to get into that. Using it as a USB midi keyboard worked flawlessly for me. I didn't have latency issues or anything. However, I couldn't get bluetooth midi to work in Windows with their provided software. Following their steps, nothing showed up in the device list within the software. Adding it via Windows just yielded an audio interface without midi capability. Windows is supposed to get native BT MIDI soon, hopefully that fixes the issue and supplants the software they provide. My final complaint is the lack of a volume knob for the headphone/line out. Thankfully the included headphones have a volume slider on them, but if you want to use something nicer for headphones, you might have to cobble together some kind of solution. ... show more

  • Really perfect for my basic needs as a hobbyist
This is a solid little piece of gear for anyone who likes to mess around with music production without overcomplicating things. The keys have a decent feel to them and the sixteen pads are decently responsive when you're tapping out drum patterns or triggering samples. It fits nicely on a desk and doesn't feel like it’s taking over your entire workspace, which is a plus if you're just tinkering between other projects. The backlighting on the pads is a nice touch for visibility and it generally feels more durable than you might expect for a compact controller. It’s pretty much a plug-and-play situation that does exactly what it says on the tin, making it a reliable choice for a home setup or a simple gift for someone starting to explore beat making. ... show more

  • This controller/synth is legit.
This keyboard is unbeatable for the price point. It works great as a midi controller on my Mac and iPad and set up was really simple. The keys and pads feel fine, right in line with other midi controllers of this size. The built in FM style synth is super cool and the patches sound great. I love that this controller is rechargeable and supports audio out via USB and analog out. They also include a gig bag, ear buds, two USB cables and a an audio adapter. The versatility a portability of this keyboard cannot be overstated. Having owned many M-VAVE products, I can attest to the quality of the build and battery life. ... show more
