I was going to post a much longer in-depth review but decided to make it more to the point. This instrument is incredible, inspiring, and a joy to use once you know your way around. I owned both the original MPC Live and the Force. This surpasses them both. The MPC Live III has the clip functionality of the Force and the portability of the OG Live with WAY more horsepower than either of those machines – you’d be hard pressed to compose a piece with one too many plugins on this instrument. It’s got truly decent sounding onboard speakers and a rechargeable battery so you can enjoy it just about anywhere. While I love my Elektron boxes, they are more like support/happy accident machines when compared to the Live III, which allows me to make complete compositions all in one box. The MPC platform was early adopted by Hip Hop and sample-intensive composers and much of the MPC based music produced and showcased on YouTube still reflects that. Respect to those genres, but the MPC Live III can handle most any style you’re into, though it’s still part of a family of the very best hardware sample manipulation instruments available. This instrument is very logically laid out, yet it is by far the deepest piece of standalone gear I’ve ever owned. Tip - the “MPC Bible” is a must-have for anyone wanting to learn the MPC environment. As a final side note, most of my gear is black, so the Retro colorway is a nice change of pace. And as a bonus, the medium gray MPCe pads have stayed pretty clean. I could go on and on about the MPC Live III, but anyway - mind blown. 😊 ... show more

Excellent sampler and so much more. Very fun to use and so many different ways to approach it. The step sequencer and additional buttons on this make it worth the upgrade from the live 2. It's more hands on than ever.

My new love jones!! I own every modern MPC and most of the old ones, this one does the job and then some. It certainly has that level of snappiness and response that the previous ones were missing. The 3.0 interface had me upset before, but now it’s apparent, they were setting us up for the live 3. I feel like, the extra RAM is what is needed to make the 3.0 software run efficiently. The interface runs into bottleneck issues on the live 2 due to the amount of ram that is used to make the 3.0 move. If you are getting aquainted with the 2, I would say wait until you have it down before jumping to the 3. If you are an aficionado like myself, make the leap to the 3. The only issue I have now, is going back to the 2. The speed difference and efficiency make that difficult. If you drive a Ford and then jump to a Porsche, hoping back into that Ford will certainly make you feel like you’re missing something. ... show more

Honestly the only bad thing about this is the price and since everything nowadays is crazy expensive I guess just have to deal with it oh and wish the screen was bigger like I would rather have bigger screen and less buttons but other than that this thing is a BEAST! If you plan on using this for strictly live performances or keeping your arrangements inside of the MPC than this is all you will ever need. If you ever plan on moving your project to a DAW or releasing a digital release this is a logistical nightmare. MPC 3 software never works and it isnt available as a fully functional VST. the supposed seamless integration with ableton is another nightmare. Akai and inmusic really need to step it up. Maschine is light-years ahead. I will be using ableton push from now on ... show more
