  • While the M-Vave SMK-25ii is great, the 37 Pro suffers with latency issues
Size: SMK 37 Keys 16 Pads Color: White
I own the SMK-25II and absolutely love it. It's compact, has solid build quality, and there's almost no latency whatsoever when playing via Bluetooth. The only downside, with it being compact, is that there are only 25 keys. so when I saw the SMK-37 Pro, ordering it felt like a no-brainer. Unfortunately, the experience has been disappointing. While the 25II is extremely responsive, the 37 Pro suffers from noticeable latency. What’s especially odd is that both products come from the same company, yet they perform so differently. At first, I assumed I had received a defective unit and exchanged it, but the replacement performed just as poorly. If you’re looking for a reliable wireless MIDI controller, the 25II is excellent. I would strongly recommend avoiding the 37 Pro, it feels poorly built and unreliable. ... show more

  • More than just a Midi Controller, look out!
Size: SMK 37 Keys 16 Pads Color: White
Fun unit packed with features, it’s great as a midi controller, but I found the included synthesizer the real showcase. First of all, it isn’t a fully fledged synth, you’ve got a handful of parameters and effects to play with, and you can apply them to any of the onboard 128 patches. Add delays, distortions, reverbs, and alter the “algorithm” used for the sound (32 settings each). Adjusting the tempo, rate, swing, gate, allows you to make new sounds and melodies and effects, it’s possible to create some interesting sounds. Using all of this stuff with the arp is really fun. I will say the sequencer could use a fully documented manual as I’ve gotten only the most basic use out of it, but it seems like there is a bit more there to uncover. You can also use an Android app (Fluidsynth) to alter the patches “on the fly” while connected, it’s a bit hacky but it works (essentially assigning sound fonts to midi channels). Tons of sound fonts on the web to load and play with. But only the patches can utilize the onboard engine. You can change the onboard patches with the downloadable software (MIDI Suite), once you change the built in patches those will then become “editable” in the engine as well. Bottom line is there is a lot of fun to be had here with the unit itself and the onboard features (synth, arp, sequencer), but watch out, you might wind up falling down the synth rabbit hole. ... show more

  • It's okay for the price, but....
Size: SMK 37 Keys 16 Pads Color: White
The SMK-37 pro is impressive for the price. It feels solid, the keys are not too cheap/flimsy (in fact they are quite good.) Knobs feel solid. Pads are not too hard and are responsive enough. The faders are a bit wobbly, but I can deal with them. The built in synth isn't bad, but it isn't great either. One thing that would have impressed me would have been stereo chorus but alas, it's only mono. Navigation with the internal sounds and parameters is kind of a hassle. You have to hold buttons as you select/adjust. Not a deal breaker but you have to get used to it. BT Midi works flawlessly once you install the app. Now this keyboard has a built in audio interface, but you get a lot of midi crosstalk when using it. Pops, hums. For me it's basically unusable. Checking online, I see that this is a common complaint and not specific to the unit I received. All in all, it's a good idea. If everything worked flawlessly, they could probably sell it for more money, but as it stands, I will be sending it back. For me, it's just not worth it to hold on to it. ... show more

  • Avoid
Size: SMK 37 Keys 16 Pads Color: Black
The keys/pads feel terrible and respond terrible. There's too much lag/delay even when playing with the built in sounds. It's a nice idea and I hoped I could look passed the issues other reviewers mentioned, but it's not up to snuff for production or live performances.
