Description

This traditional concert uke takes its design from traditional Hawaiian body ornamentation. Those designs were monochromatic, tattooed in black against brown skin, with strongly geometric patterns, and many shapes and symbols inspired by the natural island world. The design is primarily based on waves and shark’s teeth which are also echoed as fret markers. This concert uke adds the advantage of an onboard preamp and boasts a clear, resonate sound both by virtue of its concert body and mahogany construction. Beautiful sound - tremendous value. Fretboard Radius: Flat; Nut: Graphite (OEM).

  • Fun, Cool Looking but Serious Instrument
Style: Ukulele Color: Mahogany
I ordered this ukulele based on the positive reviews, I liked what the company, Luna is all about after checking them out, and because this uke is just plain cool looking and has that "Island" feel to it. I have played guitar for over 40 years, mostly finger-picking and classical style, so I was excited to see what kind of music I could make on this instrument. I had never played a ukulele before but decided that a tenor ukulele would probably be a good place to start in terms of size and to be more playable for public audiences. After tuning it up and googling a cord chart, I was playing songs the first day and have even wrote a couple of songs since then. I can't say enough good things about this instrument. It's fun to play, has a pretty nice sound, and is right around $100. You can buy less expensive ones out there and I considered them, but I'm glad I chose this one as it feels like a great entry level ukulele. Some reviews noted that it doesn't stay in tune very long and I have found this to be true, the only negative. And it could be that the strings are not quite stretched out yet. Regardless, if you're looking for uke that not only has great style but sounds good, I don't think you'll be disappointed. ... show more

  • Great uke after properly setup
Style: Ukulele Color: Mahogany
First let me say that this uke looks great in person! As another reviewer noted it is pretty light so not sure of it's fragility. But the craftsmanship is top notch! Straight out of the box the action was way too high! But after removing the saddle and a quick sanding with 180 grit sandpaper and now this thing sounds amazing! Amazing! I have a martin concert uke also and this thing keeps up with it no problem. I highly recommend this uke but if you get it know that you will need to properly set it up by adjusting the height at the saddle. If you don't feel comfortable doing it any music shop will do it for you fairly cheaply. But ever uke should be adjusted properly like this anyway.great product here ... show more

  • So fun!
Style: Ukulele Color: Mahogany
This is my first ukulele, and I love it. I like that it's a little bigger than a soprano ukulele - those ones just seemed to small for my hands. The etched design on it adds such a nice touch, and makes it feel more special. It came with Aquila strings, which is awesome, because everyone was saying I would need to replace the cheap strings on my new ukulele with Aquila strings - so that added a nice cost savings. The gig bag is nicer than I thought it would be based on other people's reviews. It's not a heavy duty bag, but it's great for just protecting the instrument from dust and my little kids fingers - and that's all I really need a bag for. I think this was such a great deal, with the strings and the gig bag included, along with the etched design on it. I don't know a lot about ukulele's, this is my first time owning one, but I think it's great for a beginner. It's been so fun to learn how to play it, and I think it has a great sound! 6/20/2013 Update I wanted to update this and say that I haven't had any problems with the tuning heads. The top review on this ukulele lists the tuning heads as a con, so I wanted to address this. I only have to tune my ukulele every other month or so. It stays in tune really well and for a really long time. ... show more

  • Great First Uke
Style: Acoustic Electric Color: Satin Natural
Although I have been playing guitar for over 30 years, the ukulele never showed up on my "radar" until recently. I'm in love with this flexible and incredibly intuitive little instrument. It's obvious to me now why the 'uke' was so very popular in previous generations. The Luna came shipped double-boxed and well packed. I was pleased with the great fit and finish of the construction. Even though this model is considered a 'budget' instrument, the quality is great. Finish is minimal and matte. The etched "tattoo" design is cool, as are the "shark tooth" position marker inlays. The neck appears to be built of three pieces of mahogany with rosewood fingerboard attached. All quite nice. Tone is a bit "dark" and woody, with a fairly good projection. My only caveates with my Luna are the following: The action was way too high. I had to remove the bridge and sand quite deeply to lower the action. Upon doing so, the under-saddle piezo pickup disintegrated and it's leads broke off. I bought another replacement on Amazon for $6 but wasn't happy with that component's quality. Also, the on-board preamp system is just "ok." It sounds quite poor through my PA. I would like to see Luna utilize a preamp with a three band (as opposed to the included two band) EQ and a built in tuner. I have a cheaper soprano ukulele that has much better electronics and sounds better plugged in. All and all, this is a great ukulele and I have made good "fiends" with it. I seldom walk by it without picking it up for a quick tune. Luna seems to be a great and thoughtful company. I will very likely purchase another ukulele or guitar from them in the future. ... show more

  • Pretty and sounds good
Style: Ukulele Color: Spruce
It is a lovely ukulele. Be aware that the tattoo design color is really a mid brown and not black as it looks in the pictures. As other reviews have said, the wood seems a bit thin and light and so possibly a bit fragile. This concert size has a lovely sound and is big enough to show off the complexity of the design to advantage. The Aquila strings are fine and the tone is very good, no twanging or buzzing. I am not an expert on the sound, but this one is mellow and melodic. The tuning keys are white plastic "mother of pearl", which is a nice touch to match the "shark tooth" insets. I think this beauty will be a favorite for many years. All ukuleles can go out of tune easily until frequently retuned and used so the strings stretch, and then they still need tuning, so if you touch it, tune it! Very satisfied. I did order the Amazon cover box but it came without it in the Luna ukulele box! This could be a problem if it sat in lobbies or doorsteps... tempting. ... show more
