  • Almost Too Good to Be True
I recently moved to a home on many acres next to a state forest, and it's pitch black around here at night. No streetlights anywhere for miles, and I love it. I began fantasizing of having a pair of glasses that would let me see perfectly in the dark at night. Cat vision goggles, if you will. These binoculars are probably the closest thing to that fantasy that I'm going to find. Right out of the box, I noticed the solid build quality. These feel very well made, and nothing about them comes across as cheap or forced. These are a really beautiful set of binoculars, and the feel is as premium as the price. On the flip side, they are quite heavy, and my arms tire out pretty quickly if I am holding them up to my face. If you are using them with a tripod, you shouldn't have this problem. The setup was pretty simple. It's crucial to read the manual before doing anything with these. It helped significantly to have familiarized myself with the manual before I actually began to interact with the device. This is my first piece of technology that's remotely like this, whatsoever. It was a bit disorienting at first, using these during the day time, but I quickly figured out how to work them. I've found controlling these to be pretty easy and straightforward. I was able to get them hooked up to Wifi, and through the app I can view all my videos and photos in real time. The video quality is good. I didn't buy these for the video/photo capabilities. To me, that's just a bonus. What I really bought these for is the night vision capabilities. And capable at night these binoculars are. I can see in extraordinary detail from many yards away. The zoom on these is pretty nuts. One downside--they start at 6x, and it means they're not as ideal for exploring tighter spaces at night, such as woods. These are great with open space. Walking down the road, I can see hundreds of yards away in really clear detail. With more time experimenting with these, I'm certain I'll discover more opportunities to make use of them. There are a whole bunch of features, including rangefinding, which I haven't even played around with yet. The device takes disposable batteries (rechargeable batteries can be used, but aren't recommended), and the battery life seems to be mediocre at best when using IR at night. However, the device can be used while it is plugged in to a power source, so for some, this won't be an issue at all. The different picture modes are fun to play around with, including the unique amber mode. The green mode supplies the novelty of feeling like one is a character in a movie, or on an actual special ops mission. As a fun toy to just play around with on my property, these are pretty hard to top. I spent hours researching my options in this space, and I determined that these offered by far the best bang for the buck for Gen 3 night vision. If you are considering whether or not it pays to spend up to this price point on a night vision device, I assure you that it's worth it. I started off with one of the $150 sets that proliferate online, and the quality of that device was brutal. I quickly realized that I was going to need to spend more to find a truly quality experience. ... show more

  • It’s worth figuring out…
5 stars since performs as specified. Gets good pics and even has an image stabilizer at lower magnifications, which is critical for looking at night sky, etc. Onky complaint is the wireless function and sending pics over the internet and the app that it connects to are clunky…but the microSD comes in handy for that. ... show more

  • Great product excellent Customer Service: Read the manual in its entirety prior to purchase
To start the only reason I didn't give the product 5 stars is that they are real battery hogs and the eyepieces don't have a cap. There is no good rechargeable battery option so I'm using a power bank as the manufacture recommended. It works however is kind of clunky if you are carrying the binocs. The images produced at night are very good, you would need to spend $3-5 K to get better images. The manufactures description of the image quality and functions is accurate. IR lamp, rangefinder, photo and video capabilities all work well however as the manuel states, the best quality will be obtained if the binocs are supported on a tripod (I use a monopod when hiking, it helps) . The binocs have so many functions you really do need to read the instructions which are pretty good. As others have noted the build quality is robust and the product comes with accessories in a very nice case. Of particular note is customer service. I called Luna Optics and a human answered the phone. I lost a part and since they had it in stock mailed it to me the next day at no charge (it was a small part but still). Since I only use the binocs at night I replaced the OEM lens covers with a pair of 52mm lens caps (2 Pack JJC 52mm Front Lens Cap Cover with Elastic Cap Keeper ), similar to whats used for a camera lens, which provide dust and impact protection. Overall I'm pleased with the binoculars and would but them again. I would recommend going to Luna's web site and following this advice regarding the INSTRUCTION MANUAL before purchasing "IMPORTANT: Please read this manual in its entirety prior to using this device!" ... show more

  • Amazing!
I literally can’t say enough good things about this product! Night vision capabilities are incredible. I’m using it for watching/filming the night sky…satellites and other anomalous lights. If you can afford it, buy it, and stop looking at other options. Build quality is superb…this is a serious piece of hardware, not some plasticky, cheap feeling thing. I highly recommend buying an external rechargeable battery brick to power it. Once again, an outstanding product in all ways! ... show more

  • Awesome for night sky viewing!
The media could not be loaded. The stars I filmed was in my back yard and can not be seen with the naked eye. It's quite a jaw dropper when you can see what's really up there. I live in a populated area to where the lighting blocks out the beauty of the sky. I recommend a tripod for better viewing and recording which I did not have at the time. I've recorded a few flying objects that I don't have a clue what they were, so if you you're a UFO hunter these things work perfect for that as well. The range finder is slightly over 450 yards and great for sighting in your guns within that distance. Day viewing is awesome with the 36x zoom and the close up viewing is good, like really good, I was able to point these at the ground from a standing point and see the blades of grass in super clear almost microscope like view closeness. Seeing game and wildlife at night is superb. Can't brag enough about these things! ... show more

  • These things are simply awesome!
I was skeptical of all the night vision, you just never know and I was always unsure what to believe. I have purchased many kinds and brands, but when I bought these and actually got to spend some time these babies they are freakin awesome.
