  • BE CAREFUL, there are exposed contacts, our printer shorted out and died!
First, overall this is a great printer for the price. My son absolutely loves it and was printing on it non-stop until the thing went up with a pop and a whiff of blue smoke. The issue is that on the underside of the build plate, the contacts between the jack, where the cord for the plate plugs in, and the heated plate itself are exposed. This NORMALLY would not be an issue - EXCEPT - to attach the build plate to the heated aluminum bed, which are two separate pieces, Longer includes some binder clips. The black triangle shaped metal clips, with the chrome metal arms that can flip back so that you can squeeze/open the clip, and then swing forward out of the way. (If my description is confusing, google 'binder clip' to see what I'm talking about). The problem with this design flaw is that my son had a hard time removing a print from the print surface, and not wanting to screw up the leveling by trying to pry it off while it was still attached to the heated bed, he removed the clips, and removed the print surface from the heated bed. After prying the print off the surface, he popped it back on the printer, reattached the binder clips that hold the print surface in place, and flipped the clip arms back under the bed. POP! The metal arms from one of the clips hit the contacts for the heated bed and shorted the ENTIRE printer out. It seems the printer does not contain ANY fuses. Smoke came from the touchscreen. Peeking into the control box we could see scorch marks on one of the chips on the main board. The SD card that was in the printer at the time was dead. The short blew out every component. If the printer HAD used fuses, a simple fuse swap would have saved the printer. As it was, without them, the entire thing went up in smoke and had to be returned. User error? Sort of? My son was only reattaching the print surface to the heated bed using the clips that Longer provided for that very purpose, and an arm from one of those clips caused a short on the exposed terminals which are located really close to a corner of the bed, where you'd clip the print surface into place. I attached a pic of the underside of the bed, showing the exposed terminals. You can see scratches from where the clips were attached and removed, and a scorch mark by some of the terminals where the arm of the clip touched them. It's a good printer, it just has a safety-related design flaw that buyers should be aware of. I did buy a new printer to replace the dead one, and returned the dead printer. The flaw is just something to be aware of, not anything that kept me from replacing it with the same model. ... show more

  • 4.5 Star ~~ Worth it and get it now!
This printer is an upgrade of Ender 3 pro in my opinion. 1. Design is clean 2. Comes with glass bed and rough surface sticker sticked on other side of the glass. 3. Touchscreen LCD Full Color 4. Heat Bed with Plugs! Thats right~ its replaceable (thats where it got me hooked) 5. 24V PSU (PLA - 2 min, havent tried others-- leave comment or question and I'll answer) 6. Filament Sensor - This is just something you have to buy for Ender 3 and pro Now with all that said is the feature itself is better than Ender 3 and pro. 7. Cheaper and comes with glass bed...how is that possible? Answer: this is a sweet deal The cons or things you need to fix: 1. Short Leg (one of the four leg came shorter and I had to stick something in there [See image]) [My alternative solution: I will be enclosing this 3D Printer soon so I will be removing the legs and taking the PSU, Motherboard, and maybe touchscreen outside of the enclosure. 2. Noisy (Yes it is noisy like any other printer but this seems more noisy imo but this was something I already knew) [Solution: Gen L board with TMC or SKR with TMC. You can also get dampers and put them between the motor and frame. There are other solutions as well] 3. Bed Leveling knobs are small (they are small and cramp that you cant really print a big one to replace those small ones or can you really do anything with it) [Solution: I will be installing either BL touch or proximity sensors. That way I do not need to mettle with small knobs!] 4. USB / SD Card are in the back! Ugh [Solution: For USB, get a longer USB cord and hook it up to your computer or use a laptop. For USB & SD Card, Use Octoprint like I do! Yep that fixes the whole point of no need to constantly taking SD card out or having long USB cord.] 5. Like all printers, enclosure issue. This can be taken care of using Ender 3 Enclosure IK*A adapted from Prusa Optional Upgrade: Capricorn PTFE tube. This is not pro/con but just something nice to do. Optional Challenge: While this printer is not Ender 3, Ender 3 has more community than LK4/LK2 combined. So the challenge is to use Ender 3 version of Marlin with a bit of tweak on touchscreen LCD then upload! Why? because the print bed is the same size! so you can just give it a try! Final Say: This printer is definitely worth it if you are planning to buy ender 3 pro. The cost is cheaper but it comes with more gadgets. While most would say Ender prints better, I believe if you put your effort in it as much for Ender 3 to LK4 then you will get smoother print. Note: While nobody has really put up comparison video, TMC + TL Smoother might really work well but that is just me thinking. Questions or Comments. * I am not a reviewer for this company or advertising this for them* Just a simple buyer who was torn from ender 3 pro vs LK4 and I must say LK4 brought it home. Please also see upgrade videos about Ender 3 pro you can adapt on LK4. Will post more photos in the future ... show more
