  • This is fun
Excellent quality and performance thus far. Had a number of trees down after Helene - the one thing there's no shortage of is oak for firewood. This splitter works very well on lengths less than 24" and diameters less than 12". Note that lengths >= to 2 feet will not fit the splitter. Set up and operation is intuitive and simple, was splitting firewood within minutes, worked for an hour and can't wait to get back to it. Very satisfying crack and split with zero effort on my part. Did not order the stand but in hindsight it may have been good to avoid back strain. Lots of logs to split, so we shall see how it holds up over time. ... show more

  • Great Log Splitter
This log splitter works great! We have used it several times with no issues and it does a great job splitting good sized logs. It is easy to use. The price was very reasonable. I would highly recommend this product.

  • Works great....but i don't like the way you have to hold the buttons
It has split large pieces of Leeland Cypress, which has a lot of limbs (knots). have only used it for maybe two hours in total. Was hard on the back without a stand, and having to hold both the start button and the push lever, you face is way too close to the log. I built a stand from Lowes wooden saw horses connected with a 4 ft. stair tread. Which worked great and was a lot easier on the back. I know that it is a safety feature, but having to hold both hands is not a good design. It is hard to keep a log straight in some cases on the splitter. By having one hand to push the log in position until it contacts the wedge, to me doesn't seem dangerous. Anyone using a log splitter of any kind need to give their undivided attention anyway. That being said, Yes , I would recommend The Bilt Hard Log Splitter. I hope it continues to hold up. ... show more

  • Log splitter arrived undamaged, well packaged, was easy to set up and worked surprisingly well.
So far, I split only about 20 logs and had no problems. The machine split logs about 8 inches in diameter with plenty of knots with ease. I was pleasantly surprised how capable it was. The instructions were somewhat vague. It should clearly be stated that the splitter was already filled with hydraulic fluid. When ordering from Amazon, Hydraulic Fluid is indicated as an item that is often purchased together with the log splitter making one believe that this fluid is needed in order for the machine to run. Time will tell how well it performs without problems. ... show more

  • This log splitter exceeded my expectations
I used this today for the first Setup was easy. I checked the hydraulic fluid level and added some as it was at the bottom of the dipstick, maybe 8 ounces. I also loosened the vent screw 2-3 turns before I used it. I split a large Locust tree that came down in a storm in April. It was cut into rounds then and it seasoned through a Kentucky summer but the rounds were very heavy. I split ~ 22 rounds. The smallest being 9" in diameter and 16" long. The largest being 14" in diameter and 19" long. I also had two that were 10" in OD and 20" long ( barely fitting ). Most of these were at least 80 pounds each. 6 or 7 had multiple knots. I wasn't sure how this machine would handle this. It exceeded my expectations. It split all of them with relative ease. I had to reposition some of the really knotty ones but I still split these into nice small pieces. Pros: Very powerful for the home owner. If your logs are under 14" in diameter and under 18" long you will have no trouble . Relatively Quiet. The videos I watched on this were noisier that using it in person. I wasn't bothered by the cycle time. I never felt I was waiting on the machine. Cons: The stroke limiter clamp is goofy. I never used it. I broke the plastic top off the vent screw. It must have been hit by a log? No problem. It still works fine. The wheels are small and cheap. No good for hauling over just a lawn. The unit doesn't sit evenly vertically. I had to put a small 2x4 under the hand guard to get it to sit vertically. I should also note I used this off of a 20A circuit with a 12AWG/3 Extension Cord.that is 50' long. I had no issues. I'm going to build a small stand from left over lumber to not have to bend over so much. In summary. If your needs are to use a log splitter 4 times /year and split 3 or 4 chords of wood this is a good choice. Also, it should last a long time if you.maintain it , change the hydraulic fluid annually. Don't drop it. If you're an idiot and do nothing it will probably last you 2 or 3 years. If you.take care of it I think it will last you 40 or 50 uses. For $300 this exceeded my expectations. Good Luck. ... show more

  • Good splitter for the price.
The splitter is heavy duty and works better than expected.

  • Better than expected
Arrived earlier than expected. It came fully assembled minus the two wheels and also came pre-lubed, which is just the way I like it. Instructions say to lube this baddaboy up every 150 operating hours. I split a few logs. It split them. So that's nice. Operated smoothly. It is small but mighty. How long will it last? Not sure. I'm hoping at least 6 months. I'd recommend this if you're looking for the most affordable electric log splitter around. I'll buy another in the future. ... show more

  • Broken. Too heavy to send right back.
The box came trashed, and beat, which is pretty typical with heavy items, but the item itself had a cracked, and broken power button, which I was able to fix with crazy glue, but while I was testing the item out to make sure nothing else was broken, one of the log support rail screws came out and striped the threads, thankfully I have a tap, and die set and was able to rethread it, and case hardened Allen head screws to replace what broke. The only reason I didn't send it back immediately was because how heavy it is, I already broke, and cut the box down, and had the skill, and hardware to fix the problems. Thankfully the ram works good. Don't order this item if you can't fix it right away. And then I went to leave a product review to the seller, and it won't let me. The seller contacted me immediately, and after reviewing my dissatisfaction, offered a 30% rebate, that I accepted. Things go wrong sometimes, and they made it right ASAP. ... show more
