  • A Back-Saver for Wood Burning Season
Size: 6.5 Ton
For those staring down a pile of logs and dreading the thought of swinging an axe, the BILT HARD 6.5 Ton Electric Log Splitter offers a welcome reprieve. This splitter packs a surprising punch for its size and price point. If you're tired of manual labor and looking to make wood processing a less daunting task, this machine is worth considering. Putting it to the Test: Performance and Power I have been impressed with the splitter's ability to tackle a variety of wood types and sizes. I have successfully splitting logs up to 10 inches in diameter and even some larger, more challenging pieces, including green and knotty wood. While it may not have the brute force of a high-tonnage gas splitter, it significantly outperforms manual splitting, saving considerable time and physical exertion. The 15-amp motor provides consistent power, and the hydraulic ram operates smoothly, making relatively quick work of most common firewood logs. It's an ideal solution for those with a moderate amount of wood to split for home heating or recreational fires. Ease of Use and Considerations: One of the standout features is its ease of use. Being electric, it eliminates the need for gas and oil mixtures and the associated fumes and noise of gas-powered models. Simply plug it in, and you're ready to go. The integrated wheels make it reasonably portable, allowing you to move it around your property as needed. However, the two-handed operation, a safety feature designed to keep hands away from the splitting mechanism, can be a bit cumbersome, especially when I'm trying to stabilize an uneven log. Additionally, the machine sits quite low to the ground, which may require users to bend or kneel during operation. I have mine on my shop workbench which is a more comfortable working height. Assembly and Initial Setup: I found the assembly process straightforward. The Verdict: A Solid Investment for Homeowners Overall, the BILT HARD 6.5 Ton Electric Log Splitter offers excellent value for homeowners looking for an efficient and relatively affordable way to process firewood. Its performance on a variety of wood types, coupled with its ease of use and electric operation, makes it a popular choice. While there are some minor considerations regarding the two-handed operation and working height, these are often outweighed by the significant reduction in physical effort and the time saved compared to manual splitting. If you're ready to ditch the axe and maul, this electric log splitter is a worthy contender that will likely leave your back thanking you. ... show more

  • This log splitter exceeded my expectations
Size: 6.5 Ton
I used this today for the first Setup was easy. I checked the hydraulic fluid level and added some as it was at the bottom of the dipstick, maybe 8 ounces. I also loosened the vent screw 2-3 turns before I used it. I split a large Locust tree that came down in a storm in April. It was cut into rounds then and it seasoned through a Kentucky summer but the rounds were very heavy. I split ~ 22 rounds. The smallest being 9" in diameter and 16" long. The largest being 14" in diameter and 19" long. I also had two that were 10" in OD and 20" long ( barely fitting ). Most of these were at least 80 pounds each. 6 or 7 had multiple knots. I wasn't sure how this machine would handle this. It exceeded my expectations. It split all of them with relative ease. I had to reposition some of the really knotty ones but I still split these into nice small pieces. Pros: Very powerful for the home owner. If your logs are under 14" in diameter and under 18" long you will have no trouble . Relatively Quiet. The videos I watched on this were noisier that using it in person. I wasn't bothered by the cycle time. I never felt I was waiting on the machine. Cons: The stroke limiter clamp is goofy. I never used it. I broke the plastic top off the vent screw. It must have been hit by a log? No problem. It still works fine. The wheels are small and cheap. No good for hauling over just a lawn. The unit doesn't sit evenly vertically. I had to put a small 2x4 under the hand guard to get it to sit vertically. I should also note I used this off of a 20A circuit with a 12AWG/3 Extension Cord.that is 50' long. I had no issues. I'm going to build a small stand from left over lumber to not have to bend over so much. In summary. If your needs are to use a log splitter 4 times /year and split 3 or 4 chords of wood this is a good choice. Also, it should last a long time if you.maintain it , change the hydraulic fluid annually. Don't drop it. If you're an idiot and do nothing it will probably last you 2 or 3 years. If you.take care of it I think it will last you 40 or 50 uses. For $300 this exceeded my expectations. Good Luck. ... show more
