I'll start by saying this is a very thin rug, but I knew that going in and I put it on top of carpet so it's ok. If using on a hard surface it would need a pad underneath. This is, however, the most wonderful rug! We got it for a little 'reading nook' in my daughters room and she loves it so much that she takes a nap on top of it and sometimes sleeps on it at night. It's a beautiful color and so so soft. For the price, it's well worth it, even if you did have to purchase a thick rug pad to go underneath. Fellow consumers, I purchased this rug and another of the same style but different color to serve as decor for the drab dorm I am residing in this summer. My initial reception of this item does include some disappointment. These rugs are made from a thin material that does not compare to other shag rugs I own and have seen. So far, my rugs do not seem to resemble the photos at all. Only the bright colors live up to my expectations. However, I am aware that the product needs a few days to recover from the vacuum sealing process. Therefore, I shall update my review within 2-3 days. Hopefully some life is brought to these rugs!!! UPDATE: Indeed, these rugs have been revived! They have a little more volume, but not nearly enough to declare them amazing. I have them in purple and pink. The colors are really vibrant and look great in my dorm room. However, these rugs are not nearly as thick as the pictures suggest. They are thin, and I suspect they would be slippery if they weren't anchored down by my bed and various other dorm room items. Despite how thin they are, they are incredibly soft. If you're just looking for some nice decor that's easy to clean, I highly recommend this product. ... show more
