We have been 100% happy with this purchase. Assembly was not bad at all. I did take other recommendations and sprayed every metal piece with Rustolum to prevent rust. I will say, just be careful not to over spray the screws as I did. I had to sand it back down so they would fit. After I finished assembling the goal, I sprayed it down again. So far we have seen no rust as others have complained about. This is a heavy duty goal with a full size rim. Kids(10-12 year olds) run off the side of the pool to dunk on it. It’s too tall for them to dunk on it inside the pool, but perfect for a good game of basketball. Even for adults. It has held up extremely well our first summer. After reading reviews, I picked up a couple cans of clear rustoleum and thoroughly coated all metal parts prior to assembly. The only problem I encountered was one bolt was smooth, not threaded as needed, so a pause and quick trip to the hardware store was required (would have given five stars otherwise). Assembly is not a one person job, but instructions were adequate and with two people it went fairly quickly. Seems to be sturdy and no rust so far. This product is a lot of fun but after a few years the primary metal pole has started to crumble down at the bottom where everything connects. It is next to a saltwater pool. I called the company to see if the pole was covered by any warranty. They said that it was not and that they had heard of this issue happening with the product. They do sell the pole separately but with the cost of it plus shipping it’s almost worth just buying a completely new system. ... show more

We bought this system 7/31/2016 and it has FINALLY succumbed to rust at the base. We will be purchasing a replacement of this same brand for next year. We have a salt pool, and live in the Southeast. While I wish, it had lasted 10 years, 6 wasn’t so bad, even the original net lasted the entire 6 years. Paid $130., so about $40.00 a year, not bad. Stayed out 24/7 and never pretreated it. The next one, we’ll probably pretreat and see if that extends it’s life. I must add, we have a garage metal sink, a chest freezer and a fridge, and all of them have some degree of rust, and the insulated garage doors are always closed; our appliance rep, suggested using car wax, to inhibit rust. We have had this for four years now. It gets a lot of use. Stays outside all summer, and is exposed to the elements. We had some concerns at first because some rust started appearing on a few spots. This actually never developed into anything, and the unit works and looks great. Our neighbor also bought one, and they are equally pleased. Changing from 4 star to 5 star review. This is the real deal. We were looking for a legitimate water basketball net for our pool, and this was a bulls eye. It is built like a regular outdoor net. It has heavy materials. Very sturdy. It is not a flimsy plastic toy that will break in a season. We have a Lifetime net in our driveway that has lasted over 20 years. That one gets used a lot, and it is still going strong. This is why we bought this product. We expect to use this water basketball net for years to come. It is taller than other nets, so be aware of that. For smaller kids, this might be an issue. It is hard to dunk on because of its height. Because it is well built and heavy, it can be a bit difficult to move. Once you find a spot for it, that will probably be where it will be for the season. If you are looking for a sturdy product that seems like it will last a long time, this is it. If you are looking for a pool toy that the kids can move around easily, this is not for you. All previous comments about rust couldn't be more true. Started rusting within 24 hours of putting it together and placing it poolside, after only a light rain during the overnight. What rusted - the pole, the horizontal plate on the rim, and the worst spot = inside the pole! Before putting the product together, I treated the hardware with a rust inhibitor designed for automotive metals as a precaution based on many reviews on Amazon. Planned on spraying a clear coat to the exterior of the pole and rim when time permitted, but apparently anything other than immediate treatment before this product hits the light of day is too late. And, not sure how I'd have coated the interior of the poles completely anyway. Also, was VERY careful to not impact the painted portion of the product with any wrenches or metal tools during the build, and laid towels down on the garage floor to ensure there would be no scratching of the paint from the cement floor during the build. All for naught. What boggles the mind is how a product solely intended for outdoor, wet environment use (regardless of a presence of chemically treated or salt treated pool water) succumbs to rust so rapidly. I mean, how does the rim rust within 24 hours? I've had a standard basketball hoop outside for a decade and the rim doesn't have a spot of rust on it. The fact that you have to take preventative measures with additionally purchased items to get his product though less than one-year's time of outdoor exposure is a joke given the materials available to manufacturers today. Aside from the rust, the directions were manageable as long as you have a chance to concentrate and complete the build without much distraction. Parts were well marked and sectioned together for each stage of the build. Filled the base with sand. Wish I'd have used water. The holes are small and while laying on a flat surface, the sand built up in the base from the funnel's discharge port to the point that after every 25lbs of sand I needed to set the bag down and tip the base forward so the sand would spread out enough to continue pouring more. The hoop is definitely fun and the kids love it. The lowest setting for the height is good to prevent dunking from inside the pool for pre-teen kids. The base is sturdy and so is the backboard, with a true basketball feel on bank shots with an appropriately sized ball. Also, the last thing I want is rust dripping on my pool's metal coping or onto the concrete surrounding the pool, or into the pool for that matter. So, I'll be forced to pull it after each use onto some large pavers I've placed in the river rock that surrounds the concrete. Overall, it is decent item that unfortunately won't last long due to the rust-factor and requires way too much attention beyond the effort to put it together for an outside recreation item. ... show more
