I bought this for my son after his basketball hoop backboard broke. One of the main reason I got this one was for the "shatterproof backboard" which remains to be seen how long it will last. The system was a pain to put together, I would recommend 2 people if possible. Once it was put together though it looks great, feels sturdy and after several months so far no issues. One of my favorite features is the adjustable height system. It's so much easier than the last system we had and can even be done with one hand...it's really easy! My son is really enjoying it and so far no issues at all. Hoping it lasts longer than the 8 years the last one did.

I had researched many different portable hoops before deciding on the Lifetime XL. I liked the larger backboard size (54 inches) relative to others in the same price range. I purchased it from Amazon (not a third party) and only paid $220, which I consider a bargain. Amazon delivered the hoop to my doorstep in less than a week. I consider myself fairly handy when it comes to assembling products - this hoop took me 2.5 hours to assemble. It would have gone a bit faster if I had a second adult to assist. I thought the instructions were fine, in fact much better than many products where the instructions seem to be a literal translation from chinese to english. We filled it with sand so as to avoid the potential of the water freezing during the winter and subsequently cracking the plastic base. Once filled the base is substantial yet easy enough for an adult to move over pavement (trying to move in the grass was a two person job). My children (15 year old daughter and 9 year old son) enjoy the height adjustability. Both of them are able to adjust the height by themselves with no difficulty. The backboard is a bit flimsy when compared to a high school gym backboard but I expected this when considering the very reasonable price ($220). The orange rim is very substantial and solid - a pleasant surprise. When a ball hits the rim the ball deflects off with no movement of the rim itself. So, overall an excellent product that will encourage my kids to set down their electronic devices and get some fresh air and exercise! :)

I bought this basketball hoop for the kids, and they love it! The hoop is sturdy enough to withstand intense games and can be easily adjusted in height, making it perfect for all ages. Installation was smooth, and now we enjoy games outdoors every evening. 🔹 Pros: ✔ Height adjustment—perfect for growing kids. ✔ Durable material—the hoop handles strong shots without losing its shape. ✔ Easy installation and long-lasting. 🔹 Cons: ❌ Requires enough space in the yard for installation. ❌ Slight noise when the ball hits the backboard, but it’s not a big issue. Great quality for the price, and now the whole family spends more time outdoors. Highly recommend for basketball fans! 🏀

I read other reviews commenting on the difficulties assembling and building this unit. Because of this I took a very conservative and careful approach yet still had considerable problems. The instructions are not clear enough to avoid mistakes. I made a considerable mistake on the hoop assembly and had to order additional parts from the manufacturer. They were very cooperative and shipped the correct parts quickly. Do not fasten or secure any part of this until you read, re-read and again the instructions and especially the diagrams. Additionally, this assembly takes two adults as is suggested by the manufacturer. I tried to do as much as possible by myself which worked out fine; 60% can be completed solo; the balance must be with two adults without question. Once completed this hoop system is great. I have it filled with water on a level concrete surface for my son to play. The height adjustment is a nice two grip handle you squeeze to adjust up or down and let go to secure in position. It is hydraulic and fairly easy to make the adjustments. Only the handle squeeze takes a bit of strength but it does not get away from you. Also the placement of the height sticker is easy to position and read with the handle. The backboard is light weight plastic thus it will not have the solid rebound effect of the real deal. If this was specification glass it would weigh too much for any portable system. If you have to have this then get a built in unit with anchor templates, concrete and heavy steel pipe column. So rather than spending $350, a system like this will cost you at least five times this. If you are considering a portable Basketball system, I highly recommend this unit. My one star deduction was due to the difficult assembly instructions and resulting mistakes. If the manufacturer improves this, it is a five star product.

We have had our hoop set up for about 8 months. It gets a fair amount of use by three families on our block, and it has been outside in snow / rain / wind. Set up was challenging, and definitely required two people with power tools who have assembled things before. Getting it into position before the base was filled was tricky. However, since it's been set up, the kids have been having a great time, and the unit seems to be standing up to the weather well. A shout-out here to the customer service department at Lifetime: We lost a couple of the caps when we moved the unit, and they readily sent us replacements. It was a great experience!

The nuts and bolts for assembly simply don't fit. I posted a video. Please watch it. Five years ago I bought this same backboard. At that time it was difficult to assemble but not impossible. It lasted for five years and it was pretty good. So I bought it again. This time, assembly is simply impossible. I'm pretty sure the nuts and bolts have mismatched threadings. I'll contact the seller and will update my review as my complaint progresses. -- update May 1, 2023 -- Lifetime contacted me at the end of March and said they'd resolve the issue. But I have not heard from them since. To be clear, I did not ask for a refund. I did not ask for anything. I just let them know they're selling a product that is impossible to assemble. I will let this review stand at 1 star until the issue is resolved. And I advise you to not buy this product!

Great price and great quality. The instructions lack a little in some areas and caused me to redo multiple steps. A two man job for sure, don’t go at it alone or you’ll pay in do-overs. The part that is troublesome is that it is too heavy which means it is a little dangerous to install the backboard and rim when the base is empty. However, once you fill the base then it becomes a nightmare and a fight to install the backboard and rim. No winning. Get a good battle buddy to help but you’ll love it when finished.
