  • Best Investment I Ever Made Best Investment I Ever Made
Style: Playset Pattern Name: Lifetime 90137 Playset Color: Earthtone
This is the best playset I could ever hope for. The size, variety of activities, and quality is perfection for our three small boys. Here is a quick and dirty summary of the important things: DELIVERY: I received a call from the local carrier about 2 weeks prior to schedule the exact date and time frame. It was delivered on the date scheduled (they did miss the time window by a little). It came in a large freight truck on a pallet. Pretty big as you can imagine. It fit into our two car garage with room to spare for one car. ASSEMBLY: Okay here's the deal. Life is too short and far too busy for me and my husband to do this ourselves, so we bit the bullet and hired a guy we found on craigslist who installs playsets for a living. He charged us $350, and it took him about 6 hours BY HIMSELF to install this set from start to finish. He also hauled away all of the lumber from the pallet and all packing supplies. I was impressed--and grateful we didn't have to do it ourselves. The process looked tedious and challenging (when I was spying on him during setup), and the reason he was so fast is that he'd done this exact set before. He did have to dig in one side to level it. He made it look like child's play to do, and it's sturdy as can be now. QUALITY: Truly top notch. This set will last soooo long. Easy to clean, easy to maintain, and no wood to ever have to pressure wash or stain! Why anyone would get a wood set when this is an option is beyond me. We chose not to mulch around and are using playground mats under the slide and swings to avoid mud spots. Boys haven't used the helicopter swing much.... maybe they will in time. SAFETY: I feel comfortable with my 3.5 year old boy climbing on this. He watched his older brother for a few hours and quickly learned how to master the rock wall and rope ladder. In just a few weeks, his agility has skyrocketed. We have temporarily taken out the trapeze swing thing and replaced with a wonderful baby swing for the 1 year old (that my 3 year old also really likes). In summary, my 6, 3, and 1 year old boys (the 1 year old has his own smaller Step2 set for now) will enjoy this for many years. Since it's been set up, my children have spent literally all day outside. They never want to come inside... They haven't been on the Wii or the iPad... It's truly a miracle product. Best investment ever. Do it. You won't regret it. And if you can budget for it, hire a guy and save some of your sanity. ... show more

  • Solid well made item that takes patience to assemble. Solid well made item that takes patience to assemble.
Style: Playset Pattern Name: Lifetime 90137 Playset Color: Primary
My wife and I decided to purchase a swing set for our five sons ages 2 to 8. We did allot of research before we decided to buy this particular unit. We where concerned about buying a wood play set. We live in Northeast Ohio and experience every type of weather imaginable. We have seen our relatives and friends spend thousands of dollars on wooden sets that fade, split rot and need constant maintenance. We simply did not want to spend thousands for a unit we would have to maintain. We already have a collapsible picnic table from Lifetime and love it. So after shopping around we decided to buy the Lifetime Big Stuff Outdoor Play set from Amazon.com as it was the best price and we where able to use our Amazon.com Store Card for 12 month Same As Cash financing. A few things that you should be aware of before you buy this unit: 1) It is large. It takes up a serious amount of space in our city lot. 2) It is very heavy and is delivered by common carrier. You will need to help the driver unload the product. It comes in an open shipping crate around 17' long, 4' wide and 5' high. The slide and rock wall are not boxed and are the lightest items. The rest of the unit comes in several large boxes each around 100#'s or more. So be prepared for a work out, or have a friend available who is fit and willing to carry lots of heavy boxes. 3) This comes in about a thousand different parts including fasteners. TAKE YOUR TIME and read the entire directions first. The set up is pretty straight forward, but we made a couple errors simply by not paying close attention to the instructions. It only goes together one way. 4) You will need two adults to set this up. I am not sure how anyone could set this unit up completely without another adult. Most of the unit can be assembled alone, but another adult is essential for several steps, holding parts still and for moving the unit around. I had my wife's help for a few of the steps, but set most of it up on my own. Like I said it is not terribly difficult, just time consuming. 5) Find a level area if at all possible. I could not find a level area and it added a great deal of trouble to the set up. 6) It is time consuming. It took around 16 hours to put this unit together. We received it on a Tuesday. We found the bag of fasteners and hardware and did an inventory on all the parts. THIS IS A MUST. We where missing the nylon washers for step number one, but everything else was delivered. We where able to replace the washers at Lowe's. I started putting the unit together alone Wednesday at 8 am. My father stopped by to help me set up the A frame for five minutes and I stopped working around 8 pm with about 2/3 complete. Thursday my wife helped me finish up and we worked on it from 10 am to 2 pm. I have had the unit completely set up for three days and my boys have been swinging and playing on it non stop from the time they get up until it gets dark. Bonus: It is much quieter in the house during the day as they are all outside playing! Bottom line: If you are looking for a solid play set and swing set I would highly recommend this unit. It looks exceptionally well made and solid and I believe we will get decades of use out of it. ... show more

  • We love this set! And by we, I do indeed mean the parents AND children!
Style: Playset Pattern Name: Lifetime 90137 Playset Color: Earthtone
I read many reviews and researched quite a bit before deciding on this swing set. I had it narrowed down to the Lifetime brand because I definitely wanted a metal set vs wood. I grew up with a Step2 climber set and we loved it, but we quickly out grew that. I wanted something that could be used by our young and growing children. We have issues with carpenter bees around here in Ohio, so that made it easy to rule out wood, and I also was looking for something that was safe, maintenance free and study- to last a long time. We have owned it for 1 month now, and here is the breakdown of my thoughts. Thank you Amazon prime for the free shipping of this large assembly! It was obviously not a 2 day shipping, but rather you have to schedule with a local delivery service to deliver on a certain date. It comes in a huge pallet (5' wide x 10' long about) so make sure you have a good spot for them to drop it. All the parts are contained in the boxes except for the slide. One of the boxes is labeled "directions included in this box" make sure you open that box first, it makes things easier. Assembly: It took us about 2, 8 hour days to set this up. My husband did the majority, but I was present for about 1/2 the time. My job mainly was to organize and "stage" the parts for him. The directions are rather clear but it takes some time to match up the actual pieces with the steps. A BIG bonus was the baggies with the small parts were all labeled, so you grabbed a baggie for the step you were working on and it only included the parts that would be used at that time. This is nice because when you finish that step, if you have pieces left, something is not right. The big pieces (poles) were not labeled, so you had to use the book and reference the picture for how many holes the part had, and then find it. It was nice that they listed which parts were in each box. So all in all, the matching up parts and staging took about 1.5 hours. Another note I want to make, these boxes are HEAVY! My husband and I are both tall and athletic build (6' and 6' 8") but we even struggled to carry 2 of the boxes from our driveway to the build site (about 100' away). So once the staging is done, the actually assembly is not too bad. I took the advice of other reviewers and purchased the Allen wrench set right here from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Dewalt-Handle-Ratcheting-Metric-Piece/dp/B005O1RGY8/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1415555150&sr=8-6&keywords=allen+wrench+set). Trust me, this is WAY easier than using the provided Allen wrenches. They do include a hand tap tool in case the threads have burrs. We didn't find too many burrs, but did have to re-tap the hole when I cross-threaded it. Unfortunately, we ruined the bolt at that time, but the local hardware store had one that worked, so we were good to go. My husband wishes the fastener type was different. He basically said that this thing is together now, and will never come apart. I agree, it would have been nice to have a hex head nut & bolt combo vs the allen head with the built in style bolts. Kids thoughts: The kids LOVE this. We finished it right before a family party and it was a huge hit. Every day (rain or shine) our kids play on this. (2.5 yr old and 5 month old) I did swap out the rings and put a baby swing in the spot. We will bring the rings back out when the kids get older and can use them. Other things I like: The natural color scheme, the fact that it is self leveling, it has 3 spots for swings & the long/wavy slide & multiple ways to get up to the fort (we most like the regular ladder and the rope ladder). Our 2.5 yr old is in love with the "noculars" (binoculars) and steering wheel accessories that come with it. The whole set is just a lot of fun in general, even us parents can play on it. Seems very sturdy. What I would change: Besides the fastener type that I listed above, I also think the rock wall is semi pointless. It's kind of awkward since you climb up, and then have to make a huge step to get from it, onto the platform. Maybe good for older kids, but I personally would have rather had a solid wall there and offer the option to expand (add more swings or a dual glider, etc) Like other suggested, the ladder can be slippery when wet. So I decided to add the grip tape right away and it is working great! Also to add, we had no issues fitting the rope ladder on the poles. We didn't exactly follow the directions in the steps they suggested (so maybe that helped us?) or Lifetime made some changes to it due to all the customer complaints. Either way, no complaints here. Overall, great set! We love it and look forward to many years of fun! I will update if anything changes! ... show more

  • sturdy, low maintinence
Style: Playset Pattern Name: Lifetime 90137 Playset Color: Primary
Background: I looked at various wooden swing sets in the 1k to 2k range. I live in New England and our climate can be tough on outdoor wood. There also seemed to be low review scores for the lower priced wood sets as their claims of cedar wood were dubious. I have all the tools and a lot of background in finishing and refinishing wood, but honestly its another chore I didn't need. The wood sets look great at first, but you will have to power wash, sand, stain, and finish every couple years. Keep that in mind. I decided to spend a bit more up front on this set and do the assembly myself to come in at a decent price. Purchase and Delivery: Lifetime has PDF instructions on their website, lifetime.com, and you can pull those up to get an idea of the space requirements and constuction steps, do that first. I marked off the dimensions with some sticks to give a visual aid for both layout considerations and assembly. You also need relatively level ground. I had a good spot for it, so I pull the trigger. A small shipping company I had not heard of brought it to my house, after a confirmation call. It arrived in about 5 big boxes along with the plastic climbing wall and slide. Its likely you will have to be there to sign. I had them deliver on a day off and overall it was a pretty smooth experience. Assembly: The instructions tell you you need two people and I would say that is probably a good idea. I ended up putting together 99% of this thing by myself and it took up the majority of my weekend. I would estimate 12 hours total. For reference I work on a computer all day, but I do the occasional home project as needed. I would suggest having allen bits and a cordless impact driver to speed things along. The vast majority of what you will be doing is lining up holes in the metal pieces and screwing in bolts to nuts which both have allen wrench holes. I used two allen wrenches (that came in the box)for the majority of the assembly. It was not a big deal, but I could have made it easier on myself with a trip to HD or Lowes for the proper sized allen bits. The instructions are fantastic and the hardware needed for each assembly section are in separate clearly labeled bags. So while it was time consuming it was not frustrating. The only downside is the metal pieces themselves are not labeled so you will want to double check to make sure the holes in the diagram match the holes of the piece you are about to bolt on. I made one mistake and it wasn't a big deal but I was pretty careful and not in a rush. You will also need a ladder when it comes time to attached the roof sections. The peak of the roof is 11.5 feet and the roof panels screw in from the outside. Outcome: This set is incredibly sturdy, and looks and feels like the high quality item that it is. I am 200 lbs and can swing on the swings, climb on the rock wall, and go down the slide with no problems. I have zero concerns about letting multiple kids or adults play on this. I added some grip tape to the metal ladder rungs and the propeller swing. The ladder rungs are round and powder coated metal so I figured adding some traction would help avoid slips and falls. The deck of the fort has a great non slip surface and is no problem. My son is just under 2 and a half so he is little young for this, but we didn't want to get something that he would grow out of quickly. I think this should have me covered until he and future children grow out of swing set ages. ... show more

  • Painful to assemble, but very much worth it in the end!
Style: Playset Pattern Name: Lifetime 90137 Playset Color: Earthtone
Let me start by saying that this play set is exactly as it looks in the pictures. Everything seems to be built to last on it. The swings are good quality and the plastic covering the chain on them are higher quality than most that I've seen. I can not comment on the gymnastic rings that come with it because I substituted out a third swing for them and left the rings in their bag in case I need them later. Overall this play set is really really well built and I believe that it will likely last a very long time. The ground it is on isn't extremely flat and the swing set did a good job of evening it out with the leg pads that are attached, making it feel extremely solid and sturdy. The reason I am only giving this 4 stars rather than 5 is because I believe that the assembly process is a little harder than it actually needs to be. The directions are OK but leave a lot to be desired, but the main hindrance to assembly is the fact that not a single part is actually labelled, The directions will give you a "name" and a picture for the part (such as part swing set leg ACB) but does not actually mark that name on the leg of the swing set. Had the letters been either stamped, engraved, or even labelled on a sticker and stuck on the leg, then the assembly process would have been so much easier. To make this worse, none of the hardware is labelled either. It is once again given a name and a picture in the direction, but if they had put all of the same sized bolts in one bag and labelled it DXG or whatever it was called it would have sped the process up. There are pictures that you can use to reference the parts, but when so many parts look similar you wind up counting holes in large metal brackets to see which one is correct. I am about average when it comes to handyman stuff (I can fix some stuff around the house and have lots of tools, but generally don't tackle anything even moderately difficult) and it took my wife and I about 7 hours on a Saturday and a couple more on a Sunday to finish up. We weren't working at a frantic pace or anything and took a break for lunch so it could probably be done a little quicker if you had to. The actual assembly was easy except for the parts identification process (as in all holes lined up, etc). Overall I would definitely recommend this swing set and once the painful assembly process was completed, it was a HUGE hit with the kids and I cannot stress how solidly this thing is built. We replaced an older wooden swing set with this and the difference is night and day. It's a big improvement. Also note that you pretty much have to have a ladder to assemble the roof of the play set unless you want to pretend to be Spiderman, so that may be an added expense that you may need to factor in also. ... show more

  • Awesome playset!
Style: Playset Pattern Name: Lifetime 90137 Playset Color: Primary
After much, MUCH, research I purschased this particular playset. I hate painting more than life itself and know that wooden playsets requires yearly maintenance. Drive around your neighborhood and look at all the wooden sets that people have gotten to lazy to take care of - there are a lot of there. This one is a little more pricey up front; however, the thought of never having to paint/stain/sand/etc made the price difference well worth it. I had a little problem with the initial delivery of this item which Amazon quickly rectified. Since the playset was delivered late I missed my assembly appointment and it was sitting in my backyard for about 6 weeks in pieces. The second assembly date was during Hurricane Sandy (hmmm, better to have one large projectile or 6 separate boxes of projectiles?) so it was postponed again. Finally mother nature cooperated and this was assembled. I highly recommend having a professional assemble this as it took two professionals 9 solid hours to put this together. I was originally planning on doing this with some friends but am very, VERY happy that I didn't attempt it. The set is very solid. This does not need to be anchored/cemented in the ground but it did require a little digging around the footings to ensure it was level. It is solid. It isn't going anywhere. My son LOVES his playset and we spend a lot of time on it. The slide has a little "lip" at the bottom so expect to catch some air! Something to think about: my son is 2 1/2 and I bought this knowing he will "grow into it". He is a monkey boy and loves to climb. Please note that if your child climbs up to the platform there are three open sides. The back side has the rope, the left side has the climbing wall, and the front has the ladder/slide. If your child likes to explore and is not old enough to understand that they can fall off, be really careful. I am thinking of going up the platform and either roping off the rock wall area or doing something so he can't fall off. This is in NO WAY a design flaw, I bought this knowing he was on the young side, this is simply an observation as there are some fall area. The swings are great. There is no movement of they playset, even with two adults swinging. Suprisingly, my son loves the propeller swing under the fort area. This may be becuase it is a perfect size for him, but he loves it. It is solid enough that I can swing on it with him. The ships wheel is also a big hit! Climb up ladder, play with ships wheel, slide down slide, repeat. LOL. All in all I am extremely impressed with my purchase. I have no regrets about buying this in relation to a wooden set, i smile knowing I will NEVER have to paint. I do have a tiny area on the blue frame where the paint is scratched. I will be calling the company to get touch up paint but no concerns. I am more than happy to answer any specific questions on this. So excited this is in our backyard!! ... show more

  • Worth it
Style: Playset Pattern Name: Lifetime 90137 Playset Color: Earthtone
I just finished assembling this thing today, and like many others here I will say that this thing is quality, and sturdy beyond belief. Definitely a two-person job to put this thing together. The hardest parts I encountered during assembly were: 1. Trying to find the right hardware for the step I was on. The instructions have the necessary hardware listed per page, but everything was packaged somewhat strangely. For some steps all the required hardware was in one bag. For most, parts were just scattered randomly throughout. Also, I had a mixture of hardware pieces that all performed the same task, but were slightly different in appearance (e.g. color). Almost like they updated the type of hardware to include with the set, but I got some old stuff and some new stuff. Kind of weird, but it all worked just fine. As others here have said, just be super meticulous when setting aside the pieces needed for each step. 2. Wrenching the deck railings into place in order for the screw holes to line up. This thing is super tight. DO NOT tighten anything down completely until you're positive you're done working on that piece. With the railings, leave everything as loose as possible until the whole square is in place. 3. Getting the rock wall support beam to line up properly with the holes in the rock wall, The instructions vaguely stated to drill through the dimpled holes at an angle, but didn't specify if that angle was side-to-side or up-and-down or whatever. After a frustrating time I just ended up drilling through certain holes again at whatever angle I needed to in order to get the screw in the hole. Overall I'd say the rock wall was the most frustrating thing to assemble. Which really doesn't make sense because it looks like it should be one of the simplest things to do. Compounding my frustration was the fact that they sent me the wrong screws to attach the rock wall to the playset frame. They just did not fit. I was able to find some suitable replacements at the store without any problem, but it was still annoying. Having said all that, don't get me wrong. With something this large there are bound to be assembly obstacles to overcome. I really love this playset! My son loves it already too, and it's great that I can play around on it with him without worrying about breaking anything. Incredibly sturdy, and SO much better than a wood set. No splinters, staining, rough surfaces, etc. The Lifetime set is by far the best playset I've come across after seeing what some of my friends have in their backyards. This thing is definitely worth it!! ... show more

  • Oustanding Product and Service Support!
Style: Playset Pattern Name: Lifetime 90137 Playset Color: Earthtone
This is our first playground Lifetime product. We bought a few of the folding plastic tables a few years ago, and love them, so after a good bit of research, we decided on this playground set. It arrived on time, and came in large freight crates. I knew that this was going to be an adventure in and of itself just setting it up. This was a gift for our two toddler daughters, so my wife, two teenagers and I started putting it together as a family effort. It definitely requires a minimum of two adults to put it together, but I'd recommend at least one other person to help with the heavy parts. I started it on a Sunday and it took about three more days in the evenings after work to complete it. I have to say that it is an impressive structure, and extremely sturdy. Once constructed, two grown male adults can barely lift one side. (So as a hint, make sure you know exactly where you want it before you build it. It is not easy to move at all once completed.) This play set is so big and durable, it handled two adults swinging on it as high as they could with out rocking or looking unstable. It easily handles everything our kids can throw at it, and I feel that our toddler girls will get years of use out of it. (Even our two teens who are too "cool" for such things, get on it from time to time.) I am also giving them a "5" star rating because of the customer service at Lifetime. While tightening the bolts, I broke one in half, which was probably my fault. These bolts are made specially for this play set system, so I contacted Lifetime, via their website e-mail, and reported my problem, advising what part was broken. Within just a few short days, I had a brand new bolt and nut set arrive in a package at my home free of charge. This equipment is solid, looks to be long lasting, and now, nearly a year after putting it together, is still a valuable part of our yard and the kids still can't wait to go outside to play on it. One last thing, it also adds to the beauty of they yard and blends in well with my wife's flower gardens. We expect it that it will be used by our kids and when they grow up, possibly by our grandkids, for years to come. Great product and service support! Mark ... show more
