🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The KidKraft Appleton Swing Set receives mostly positive feedback for its great value and quality at an affordable price. However, assembly is noted to be challenging and time-intensive, often requiring multiple people and several hours to complete. The overall sturdiness and appeal to children make it a worthy purchase for families. Some reviewers noted issues with pre-drilled holes not aligning and wood splitting during assembly, but these were not deemed deal-breakers.

Pros

  • 🏆 Great value for the cost
  • 🎢 Appeals to children of various ages
  • 🔨 Sturdy once assembled
  • 📋 Detailed instructions provided

Cons

  • ⏰ Time-consuming assembly
  • 🛠 Requires multiple people for assembly
  • 🚧 Some alignment issues with pre-drilled holes
  • ⚙️ Potential for wood splitting during assembly

Should I Buy It?

If you're looking for an affordable and sturdy option that your kids will love, and you don't mind dedicating time and effort to assemble it, the KidKraft Appleton Swing Set is a solid purchase. It might not be the best fit for those seeking a quick and easy setup or if you're planning for it to accommodate older children.

  • Great playset, especially if you get it on sale
Style: Appleton
Got this on sale for $350, which seemed like a great deal. It's been 3 months since I put it all together and so far, it's holding up great. Playset is on the smaller side - don't expect something from a public park, but it's perfect for toddlers and small kids, any under 4'6" and 80 pounds (it's rated for 110 pounds but kids that big are probably on their smart phones instead). Any playset that is bigger will likely cost way more ($1,500+), so this is a great deal all things considered. My set came with all the necessary pieces, nothing broken. Cedar wood is of good quality and smells nice. Cedar is considered a softwood, but these planks seem sturdy enough. Still, be careful when you drill in screws or bolts The wood appears treated in some way as the water beads off, but I'll see how it holds up this winter (I live in Southern California so I'm more worried about sun damage - I'll likely need to stain/seal before each summer). It took me and a friend about 7 hours to assemble it all - we spent an hour organizing and about 6 to build, with a long lunch in the middle that involved a lot of beer (not recommended). Required tools - socket wrench with 5/16 and 1/2 drives along with a power drill. You'll need a Phillips drive bit and the hardware provided include a Robertson drive bit - definitely use it over anything you may already have. Most of the holes are pre-drilled and I encountered only one piece that seemed to be pre-drilled incorrectly (fortunately, I have a power drill). Other tips - you need a flat surface. Sort out ahead of time the wood pieces by number group and the hardware size (bolts, screws, washers, nuts) together by size so they're easy to grab - this is what took so long to organize as we figured out some of the hardware could be set up in advance (bolts paired with their washers and nuts, etc). Don't tighten anything until the end so you can maneuver all the pieces into place, especially when you manhandle the swing portion to the main station. Finally, take your time reading the instructions - they can be a bit confusing and if you look at it wrong, you may mix things up (I actually mirrored the whole set on accident, but that actually worked out to be a better fit for my backyard). I modified my version in order to support installing a pirate ship wheel (basically, there are some horizontal supports you can screw on from the outside of the "fort" rather than inside) and left the back space open, taking out the chalk wall and putting a rope ladder instead. All in all, considering how little it cost, I am happy about this and so is my son, so that's all that counts. ... show more

  • Fair price for how much fun!
Style: Appleton
This is our 2 year olds birthday present and she loves it so much! We all do! My husband did have to get a tool he didn't already have but luckily we could afford to do so. Took just about the entire day to put together but he did with minimal problems as the instructions were pretty comprehensive. It really is a great gift and we're having so much fun. I really appreciate how sturdy and stable it is as well. If you are on the fence, you should get it. So glad we did. ... show more

  • Great starter playset for young kids
Style: Appleton
Great playset for young children. It is on the smaller size, but it is the perfect size for my 3 y/o. It's easy for them to learn how to climb into the playhouse and the slide is an absolute hit. Once constructed, it is very stable, but the "cedar" wood planks seem very fragile. Just a hair too much when tightening the screws or bolts, and you risk blowing out the wood. I think over time I will replace pieces with a much sturdier wood to avoid potential failure with the supplied wood (hence the 4 star and not 5). It was fairly easy to build, I flipped a few things while building it solo, but all were easy fixes. Instructions say 4-8 hours for 2 people building it, I was able to building in about 5.5 hours by myself. Would recommend a second set of hands when moving the box, delivery was to front door. While it can be picked up with only one person, it is heavy and large making it difficult for only one. ... show more

  • Nice sized play ground
Style: Appleton
We just finished building the playground. It is really nice. It does take two people for some parts of the assembly and takes a few hours. Our son (3 years old) really loves it. It is the perfect size for him and it'll be good for a few years. Only compaint (so far) is that some of the instructions are confusing and you have to really look at the pictures to try to figure out what it wants you to do but otherwise, we had no problems. ... show more

  • Looks great
Style: Appleton
Great little playground for my 2 year old and was not too difficult to put together but be prepared to spend several hours putting it together the directions are pretty clear and organized just follow them carefully it looks great and is sturdy enough all the hardware is included and it feels durable. All the prices fit together perfectly and didn’t need much adjustment at all. I’m 6’2 and 225lbs and stood on platform to attach the shade and it held pretty well. It is the perfect height for my two year old however I have to watch my head because I have bumped it a couple of times due to the height of it I’d say if your 5’10” or less you will not have this issue . ... show more
