🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The KidKraft Appleton Swing Set receives mostly positive feedback for its great value and quality at an affordable price. However, assembly is noted to be challenging and time-intensive, often requiring multiple people and several hours to complete. The overall sturdiness and appeal to children make it a worthy purchase for families. Some reviewers noted issues with pre-drilled holes not aligning and wood splitting during assembly, but these were not deemed deal-breakers.

  • ⚙️ Potential for wood splitting during assembly

Should I Buy It?

If you're looking for an affordable and sturdy option that your kids will love, and you don't mind dedicating time and effort to assemble it, the KidKraft Appleton Swing Set is a solid purchase. It might not be the best fit for those seeking a quick and easy setup or if you're planning for it to accommodate older children.

  • Pretty awesome for the kids, fun puzzle for the parents.
Style: Appleton
Was looking for a playset for my 3 year old and 16 month old. Bluf: Excellent value, good materials, good directions. Value: I think it would be hard to just purchase the raw materials for less than this set costs. They use wood from the cedar family and the hardware is a significant amount of nuts and bolts. Definitely gave a durable vibe. Directions: everything was stamped and all the hardware was separated in individual labeled bags. I inventoried everything and nothing was missing only one piece of wood was damaged and it was superficial. I would be willing to guess there is close to a thousand pieces between wood and hardware. All the wood is precut and drilled and with the exception of a few pilot holes you need a square drive(provided) , 7/16, 1/2 socket, hammer, and square. An impact driver is also a must. Reality check: This assembly is a lot of work, the directions are well done and easy to follow. However this easily took 6 hours to assemble and if this type of thing is not something you enjoy doing and/or have some experience with this could prove to be a bad experience. This is definitely not a pull out and play right away set. Overall five stars, I think it came out great, the kids love it, and it was about a third of the price of most of the other sets(paid in sweat equity). I will say I did have a good time putting it together, I read the other reviews so expecting 6-8 hours of adult puzzling, I was not disappointed. I did include a picture, my backyard is definitely not level, but honestly a little bit of shifting and it worked out great ... show more

  • Perfect Backyard Swing Set—Even Great for Toddlers with Easy Modifications
Style: Appleton
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazing Swing Set for Toddlers and Young Kids! We purchased the KidKraft Appleton Wooden Swing Set for our toddler, and it has been one of the best investments we’ve made for outdoor play. The quality of the wood is excellent, and once assembled, the structure feels sturdy and secure. Our little one absolutely loves the slide and climbing features. Since our child is only 1 year old, we purchased a separate bucket-style toddler swing seat for added safety. It was incredibly easy to install on the swing set and worked perfectly, making the playset enjoyable even for younger toddlers. The compact design fits nicely in our backyard without taking up too much space, yet it still offers plenty of activities to keep kids entertained for hours. We’ve already gotten so much use out of it and expect it to grow with our child for years to come. Assembly does take some time, but the instructions were clear, and the end result was well worth the effort. We’ve received many compliments from family and friends, and the swing set has quickly become the favorite spot in our yard. If you’re looking for a durable, well-made playset that encourages outdoor play and can easily be customized for younger children, I highly recommend the KidKraft Appleton Wooden Swing Set! ... show more

  • A hit with our kids, once we got it put together!
Style: Appleton
Our kids love this play-set! We have a 1 year old and a 3 year old and they both can climb up and go down the slide on their own. I love the size for safety reasons, but will definitely need to get a bigger set when they get older. It was a PROCESS to put together, but once it was done it looks great and is good quality. It does seem really safe and sturdy, but the slide shoots them out which they love but made me nervous at first. We would recommend! ... show more

  • Great playset, especially if you get it on sale
Style: Appleton
Got this on sale for $350, which seemed like a great deal. It's been 3 months since I put it all together and so far, it's holding up great. Playset is on the smaller side - don't expect something from a public park, but it's perfect for toddlers and small kids, any under 4'6" and 80 pounds (it's rated for 110 pounds but kids that big are probably on their smart phones instead). Any playset that is bigger will likely cost way more ($1,500+), so this is a great deal all things considered. My set came with all the necessary pieces, nothing broken. Cedar wood is of good quality and smells nice. Cedar is considered a softwood, but these planks seem sturdy enough. Still, be careful when you drill in screws or bolts The wood appears treated in some way as the water beads off, but I'll see how it holds up this winter (I live in Southern California so I'm more worried about sun damage - I'll likely need to stain/seal before each summer). It took me and a friend about 7 hours to assemble it all - we spent an hour organizing and about 6 to build, with a long lunch in the middle that involved a lot of beer (not recommended). Required tools - socket wrench with 5/16 and 1/2 drives along with a power drill. You'll need a Phillips drive bit and the hardware provided include a Robertson drive bit - definitely use it over anything you may already have. Most of the holes are pre-drilled and I encountered only one piece that seemed to be pre-drilled incorrectly (fortunately, I have a power drill). Other tips - you need a flat surface. Sort out ahead of time the wood pieces by number group and the hardware size (bolts, screws, washers, nuts) together by size so they're easy to grab - this is what took so long to organize as we figured out some of the hardware could be set up in advance (bolts paired with their washers and nuts, etc). Don't tighten anything until the end so you can maneuver all the pieces into place, especially when you manhandle the swing portion to the main station. Finally, take your time reading the instructions - they can be a bit confusing and if you look at it wrong, you may mix things up (I actually mirrored the whole set on accident, but that actually worked out to be a better fit for my backyard). I modified my version in order to support installing a pirate ship wheel (basically, there are some horizontal supports you can screw on from the outside of the "fort" rather than inside) and left the back space open, taking out the chalk wall and putting a rope ladder instead. All in all, considering how little it cost, I am happy about this and so is my son, so that's all that counts. ... show more

  • great buy!! worth the money!
Style: Appleton
Bought this for prime day and do not regret one bit - such a good steal ($365)!! Took my husband about 5.5hrs to put together, no difficulties. However, a few pointers for assembly: 1. wood is soft so you could do everything by hand if needed. 2. look for pre-drilling instructions because the wood can split if you don’t follow accordingly. 3. follow the directions! Bought the baby/toddler swing separately! Will be used for my years to come! ... show more

  • Pay a little more for better quality

Ok at best, lots of broken wood in box. Seems somewhat flimsy. Kids do like it but too small for kids over 7-8.

  • Great value
Style: Appleton
Its a great value instructions were good but a little lacking toward the end. Wood is soft so you have to be careful during the assembly and inwould recommend utilizing a sealer to help prolong the swing set. It took 6 hrs to built between two people who are good with tools. Just a lot of steps to complete. Its a great size for our two year old but a 5 3 or 4 year old would start to find it a bit small. ... show more
