I put this in the ground with the add insert pipe sold separately. That worked well for my needs and I can remove it if I wanted to, but I doubt I will, just wanted the option. Board is fairly sturdy, it the smaller 44 inch but the grand kids 10-12 yrs are having a blast with it. For the price, it does what I expect. If I had some highschool - more serious players, I would have to spend some more money for a more sturdy nicer option. and if they get serious about hoops, then, maybe that will happen in 4-5 years. This should last that long i would think. The backboard is not glass, its a durable plastic. I like the quality for the money spent. It is not a 500 dollar hoop. Dont expect that. If you have Senior high school kids that want to slam dunk all the time, then this is not the one for you. ... show more

I purchased this to replace a similar unit that was over 30 years old, and which a tornado knocked down. I assembled the whole thing by myself. Instructions say to use 3 people which would be advisable if you're not physically strong. I'm 69 but had enough muscle to do it. My grandkids are happy which is the most important thing to me.
