At first, I thought the value of the little button on the underside of the tape measure was more a redundancy. I've used dozens of tapes -- digital, laser assisted, and old-school slice your fingers if you let the tape reel in full-speed kinds -- and until this one came along my favorite was a milwaukee tape simply for the large numbers and that the metal ruler was exposed on the underside so you could easily hold a dimension without having to slide a lever that eventually fails because the parts wear out. But boy was I missing the point! Today, I was cutting some flooring on my chop saw. I drew the tape out a bit past my dimension, started to mark my line, and I noticed the tape didn't start to recoil. I hadn't employed the thumb lock, so I was expecting the case to slowly slide along in some sort of coefficient of friction to spring tension. But the tape didn't budge. I completely let go, making the universal "hands up when time's up" gesture you see on every cooking or crafting competition. It didn't budge. I picked up the tape housing, the hook end still engaged, drew out a few more inches, and set the case back down. Did the hands up gesture again. Didn't budge. I slid the material the tape was resting on and the whole thing moved as one unit. No sneaky case sliding because the thumb lock was only kinda engaged. Its like this thing was glued to my board. Eureka! The button is depressed simply by placing the tape measure on a flat surface and letting gravity do what it does. That redundant button on the bottom of the tape case is now may favorite shop addition and I've got one of those Shaper Origin CNC Routers (and that's pretty cool!). Even if you don't NEED a new tape, I highly recommend this one. It stays in place with zero effort, has clear labels in eight inch increments (which I find helpful, 'cuz I can't tell you how many times I've had to hit something like 11/32), has metric units of the under side, its reasonably priced ... on a per item basis. Anyway, I'm super glad I got this one. Now I better quit yackin'. I've got some flooring to do.

Loved this tape measure and dead on. The only issue I found is I went to use it one day (like 18 months after having it) and the laser or screen wouldn’t work. The only issue I found is a battery that it came with the tape had corrosion on the negative. Replaced the batteries but still will not work. I would vote get this tape but swap the batteries!

I really liked this out of the box and it was easy to use. Be aware the laser “expects” the user to hold the back end of the tape measure flush against whatever you’re measuring so it adds 3 and 3/8 inches to account for the size of the case. The measure point is different from what the tape shows. Anyway the tape is to flimsy for me. It bent between the 6 and 7 inch mark and now doesn’t stay straight out. I don’t even know how that happened but the material is thin. That’s a deal breaker for me. UPDATE 7/18/20: Lexivon reached out after my review so this is what I told them. “The issue I had was that the tape bent from something I did but I’m not sure what that was. I’ve not had this happen with other tape measures. Maybe it is the material it is made from. I thought it was ruined as it stayed flopped over to the right when extended beyond where the bend occurred. I figured it was ruined so I felt I had nothing to lose by trying to bend it back. I was able to work it so that it only twisted without folding over. I kept at it and managed to get it straight but it still has a kinks in the 7 to 8 inch range which I am aware of each time I extend the tape (pictures attached.) “ To their credit they sent me a new on and paid for shipping for return of damaged one. That’s a big plus for customer service. I really couldn’t find an equivalent item. Others were really bulky and just weren’t as good as the Lexivon so I’m glad to get the replacement and will be careful in the future now that I know it’s limitations. I like having a combined tape and laser rather than two separate devices and I really like the design of this item. Kudos to Lexivon for standing behind their product.

This product is fantastic! Accurate measurements and easy to use. The manual tape measure is magnetic so no need to hold have one person hold onto the one end. Pro: I was able to take measurements from a second floor while construction workers were placing tile down. Measurements from staircase was easy. Just point and click. Awesome. Con: ? The only down side is taking measurements of the ceiling. The laser is at the top of the measure and not the back so the width of the tape measure you have to factor in. There maybe a solution to this one and I will check the other post.
