I give this set five stars without hesitation. It is absolutely worth the 60 dollars and if you can find it for less that is even better. This LEGO Super Mario Game Boy set is peak nostalgia and it brings a surprising amount of joy while building it. The build is engaging and satisfying from start to finish and it feels like a love letter to classic Nintendo. It easily stands out as one of the best LEGO sets released in 2025. Every detail feels thoughtful and true to the original Game Boy look. After finishing the build you might even want to check out Build a Boy or Brick Boy projects which let you turn this LEGO model into a fully functional Game Boy style device. I bought this set for my husband as a Christmas gift in 2025. He had a blast putting it together and started assembling it after he opened all of his gifts. As usual, LEGO delivered with assembly instructions and quality. His favorite things about the set are that you can change out the screen and the buttons can all be pressed. This Lego set was fun to put together. The age suggests 18+, but this could be put together by any age group, adults or kids. I like the fact that all of the controls (D-pad, A and B buttons, Start/Select buttons, Volume, Contrast, and On\Off Switch) were all able to be pressed/toggled. The lenticular screens added a great touch and the fact that you can switch out the display and the game cartridges is pretty awesome. It even comes with buildable display stands for both the Gameboy and one game (the other game can be stored in the Gameboy). It would be cool if Lego made an expansion to add more screens and game cartridges (hint, hint, Lego!). ... show more

My son was trying to win this collecting arcade tickets. I went ahead and ordered it for him. It came quickly and he loved it. He's a newly promoted advanced skilled builder. This kit kept him happy for about 2 hours. The kit does not have any lighting. The game screens are inserts. Buttons push, switches slide...it's actually pretty cool. ... show more

Obviously it's a LEGO set so it's not a real Gameboy but man this thing is great! I got it as a gift for my brother and he has it displaying like a show piece. It looks that good. I like that it has swappable "cartridges" that you can change out as you see fit. Really cool.
