  • Very dependable.
Material Type: Blue Style: 400 LR
We live in Belize and this is at least the 5th one we have bought. One for us, one for a friend, and 3 for a worker who lives in a village and doesn’t have electricity. He uses them to light various parts of his house and recharges when he comes to work at our house. We lose power a lot so we all love and depend on these lanterns. I highly recommend. ... show more

This has a lot of useful features. Living in Florida, hurricane prepardness is essential! Over the years I have purchased many lanterns ,etc. for use . Since this one is my favorite, I recently purchased a 2nd one. Versatile, portable, easy to use, and a quality item!

  • durable,dependable, and bright
Material Type: Yellow Style: 400 LR
Thought I should write a review on this lantern. I bought this in 2021 for power outages and camping. I was a little worried about how long the rechargeable battery would last and how bright the the light is. Fast forward several years and the light is still super bright and and the battery still works great. Its been used many many times and the battery lasts hours and hours. This lantern is definitely pricey compared to many other options out there but for dollar value, given how durable and dependable its been...its been worth it! ... show more

  • It works.
Nice, but I wish it would throw off more light.

  • Very bright, sturdy, ideal for power outages.
Material Type: Blue Style: 400 LR
Very bright light - on high setting you cannot look directly at the light. I set it on top of a 6' high book case, put it on high, and it easily gives enough light to illuminate a 12x12 room well enough that you can see to walk, see everything in the room and probably even read (and I am 60 yrs. old, so younger folks will have no problem seeing well with this light). It doesn't light up the room like my ceiling light that has 5 light bulbs, but for emergency situations when the power is out it will definitely do the job. It gives about two times the light of a small coleman brand lantern I have that uses 4 D-cell batteries. It feels sturdy and well-built. Took about an hour to charge out of the box. I've seen several negative reviews that complain that the lantern wasn't charging and was showing a blinking red light after it had been charged - but this is normal. When the light is turned off, the indicator light does blink red (according to the info on their website, this is so you can locate the light when the power goes out). When you turn the light on, the indicator light shows a steady green light until the batteries start to wear down. Another complaint I have read was that a phone charger didn't fit well into the lantern. The instructions on the website say to use the usb cord that comes with the light with your phone charger (they’re talking about the part of your usb-type charger that plugs into the electric receptacle) - the male end of the usb cord that comes with the light is slightly longer than your phone usb cord’s end and it does fit securely into the light. You can even stow the short usb cord provided into the base of the light; it's a tight fit, but it does fit in there. Two usb cords are provided, the female end on one is slightly larger than the other; only complaint here is that the cords are very short, about 8” long. Some have also said that the light doesn't switch from high, to med, to low....I can say that it takes a “light touch” of the button to switch between high/low/med, etc. If you press the button 'hard', the light just goes on or off. I haven't tested it to see if it works after you drop it or submerge it in water, and I probably won't. My use is primarily for power outages, not camping...but I can say it does feel well built – it’s ‘rubberized’, not cheap plastic. The handle for hanging is sturdy and is also ‘rubberized’. It also comes with a plastic D-ring clip that you can hang the lantern from, and a small pop up hook in the base can be used also – both of these feel cheap, but will work for their purpose. The instructions that come with the light aren't very helpful, but going to the website cleared up my questions about the indicator light, charging and using the usb charger cords. Battery life: I got 4.5 hours on high setting before the flashing green indicator came on - which means the battery is between 70%-40%. The brightness of the light dims some as the battery depletes. It’s been flashing green for about 8 hours now and still gives enough light to see well enough to walk around in a dark room. Overall I’m happy with the battery life performance – good enough for 4+ hours of bright light and several hours of dimmer light will serve my purposes for power outages, and the ability to charge it from a vehicle is a plus. This light is a solid 5 stars for me compared to others I’ve had, and I will be ordering more. ... show more

  • Excellent lantern! Very Bright, good battery, easy to use!
Material Type: Yellow Style: 400 LR
The media could not be loaded. My Boy Scout troop recently decided it would be best if we stop using propane lanterns and switch to LED/electric lanterns instead. Reasons for switching to LED/electric lanterns: - Safety: No more concerns about burns, fires, etc. - Simple: No more fiddling around with mantels & no more cross threading fittings - Less waste: No more disposing of green propane bottles I bought three different LED/electric lanterns and my troop used them through our week-long summer camp. It was unanimous that the ToughLight was the best lantern. We then purchased 3 additional ToughLight lanterns for the troop. Key features of ToughLight lantern: - Well built: I cannot stress this enough. We feel this lantern will survive the ‘more extreme use’ that the Boy Scouts tend to put equipment through. - Simple operation: Press button for high, medium, low, flash, off. When lantern is on for a short time – press button once to turn off - It sounds silly but other electric lanterns are not as easy to use/figure out and one ends up getting blinded while they do figure out the operation - Size/weight: Lantern is relatively small size which is nice. It is not very heavy - Don’t think one would backpack with it but it’s lighter than many other LED/electric lanterns - Waterproof: All of our lanterns have been through at least 4 downpours and there is absolutely no water inside Light output: Note: Each of our patrol sites are about 30-40 feet in diameter - We put a ToughLight in each patrol site and it was easily enough light + Low: Good for low traffic times, when Scouts are doing camp game and adults in site + Medium: Good for when scouts are actively around the site. More than enough to see everything (buckets, rope, logs, chairs). This is the setting we used all week at summer camp. + High: Good for when extra light is needed a bit further out. Perhaps collecting wood for setting up camp/fire. We only used this setting as-needed during the week. Battery Life: - We have twice used ToughLight lanterns during our week-long summer camp. The Lanterns EASILY lasted the whole week with at least another 36 hours of battery left. - Summer camp use: ~4 hours per night 5 nights Medium power setting - These lanterns will VERY easily last during a weekend campout EDIT - 1.5 years later: Our troop has been using these lanterns for the past 1.5 years and they have been great! - The scoutmaster notes they still hold a charge and last a long time. - They have proven to be tough - as far as I have seen not 1 part has broken on any of the 4 lanterns EDIT - 3 years later: My troop is still using these lanterns and they are still working as well as when we bought them. - We have 4 lanterns and all 4 still hold a charge very well (sitting on shelf for months at a time) - Still proven tough - still no broken parts on any of the lanterns EDIT - 4 years later: I keep updating my review because these lanterns are fantastic! The company is great and I want to keep supporting them. Hard to believe it was 4 years ago we purchased these. I am happy to report they are all still working very well. My troop goes camping once a month plus a week-long summer camp and these lanterns only require 2-3 charges per year. EDIT - 5 years later My troop is still using these lanterns and they are all 100% intact with no broken pieces. The batteries do take a long time to charge but as noted in my previous updates, the charges do last a long time. ... show more

  • Small but mighty
This is a compact but very bright lantern. I have mostly used it in the house to get light in dark spots behind furniture and to go outside when it’s dark. It casts a lot of light. The small size is very convenient to keep handy without taking up a lot of room.
