I purchased 4 different LCD tablets as gifts for the holidays.... One for my 6 year old to practice his letters and spelling, one for my toddler (because of course he wants everything his big brother has), one as a Toys For Tots gift, and one for myself because I got a lightning deal and it was hard to pass up. I had no experience with LCD boards going into this so it took me a minute to realize there was no “ON” button- you just start writing. I suppose I assumed they were backlit. At any rate, I tried all 4 boards out right away so I could see which ones worked best. All of them have perks, some being better than others. The brightest tablet in the group was the Newest board (orange), however it also picked up secondary marks from my hand the easiest. Still, this was my favorite out of the 4 boards and the one I chose for my 6 year old because he’ll be using the board the most for school and fun. The Mafiti and NEWYES boards were 2nd in brightness, with the Mafiti producing thinner lines and the Mafiti also came as just a board with no extras. This was also the cheapest board of the group with a lightning deal pricing it around $6. I got this one for myself as a list board and I think it will be fine for that. The NEWYES board was the only board that came with a lanyard and in my opinion this is the most useful accessory and I’d rather have this over the spare batteries some of the boards came with. My least favorite board is the Sunany board, although it came with the most accessories, including a screwdriver to remove the tiny screw for the battery compartment and a spare pen in case you lose one. While all of the boards are most dim in low-light conditions, this one was the dimmest of the four. All the boards brighten up and are easier to read when you’re in a well-lit room. Attached is a photo of the Sunany board both in low light and high light conditions. If I were to recommend any board of these 4 for a child, I’d definitely go with the Newest board, with the NEWYES as the runner up. I am impressed by these little tablets. They came at a good price. We had a Boogie Board that broke. I thought changing the batteries would help and it didn't. I was thinking about going through the hoops to find their customer service when I saw a link to these. My daughters didn't like that the old board only wrote in a single color. They find this one to be more fun. I was able to buy two of these lcd writing tablets for less than the cost of a single Boogie Board replacement. The lighter color in the middle can be a little hard to see if you are actually using it to write a list. That is my only complaint. Mostly my kids use it for practicing school work and they love the ease of use! ... show more

Easy to use and ready out of the box. My 4 & 7 year olds are loving them! Both of them would go through a whole notebook in a week if I would let them. Not sure how long they are going to last because they are VERY lightweight. Update: almost 2 years and these are still going strong. One of the pens met an inglorious end viathe dog but otherwise, they are still as great as the day we got them. ... show more

Santa Clause got two of these for my daughters, 3 and 6. It was a big success and they’ve continued using their tablets almost daily. The tablets are still working perfectly and with the same batteries even after some very tough play. I tied the pen to the writing pad, which was essential to stop them from losing it or misplacing it. A string is not provided, but the pen and of have the necessary holes to attach a string easily. ... show more

Got this to entertain my 3 and 6 year olds on a long car trip (10+ hours). These are absolutely amazing! Kept the kids quiet and entertained for a decent amount of time. They are still interested in them during the down time of our vacation. And my teenagers have also drawn a couple images on them too. Has magnets so they stick on the fridge. Only downside is you could easily lose the stylus - however, as my 6 year old quickly discovered, you can use your finger to draw as well. (It has holes so you can add a string between device and stylus if you want.) ... show more

I got this for my 10yr old son to use for his math to workout problems. I was tired of wasting paper and using a dry erase board got old bc he would always leave tops off his markers so they dried out. We have had it now for just 2 days, and he has been non stop writing on it! Just for fun! He loves that it has a black screen but when you write the writing is various colors, also the one click erase button is very cool. It also has magnets on the back so you could throw it on the fridge too for leaving messages or grocery lists. For $10..... not too shabby! ... show more
