This is a review of the LAUNCH X431 PROS Elite bi-directional scan tool. Considering the price point, I believe this scan tool it targeting the advanced DIYer that wants to work on their own vehicles. However, do not let the low price fool you. This is a very capable scan tool, and would be a suitable tool for the professional mechanic. There are many expandable functions for the pro, like support for ADAS, oscilloscopes, a battery tester, IMMO programming, borescope and key programming. Reporting can also be customized for business use and shared with customers. Remote diagnostics is also possible, which connects you with other mechanics. Vehicle coverage includes most brands on the planet. It comes in a tough carrying case that protects it from hard knocks. The tablet itself is also tough feeling, and should not be easily damaged bouncing around a toolbox. It's 8 inch screen is bright and clear. Boot up is a bit slow, but once running, it is fast. Moving between functions and modules is quick and simple. WiFi connectivity is fast. Its battery holds up over several days, and would probably last a couple of days under constant use. There are nearly 40 service functions avail on the X431. It has very useful live data stream graphing capabilities, as well as pre and post repair reporting. A great scan tool for shop work. Setup was simple, updates are easy, and that touch screen is responsive. Auto VIN scan pulls all system codes so I can see the problem immediately. Clicking a code jumps straight to the module. With bi-directional control, it's able to kill injectors and reset adaptive memory on most modules makes diagnosis way faster.     • A powerful diagnostic tool for the price!
This scanner is on the pro level. The first time I used the bi-directional controls to cycle the fuel pump on my Silverado to test pressure, I was really surprised. No more guessing if a relay was bad or running wires to test things manually. The relearn and reset functions actually work – I have successfully done an electronic parking brake service mode on a SUV and a throttle body adaptation on my neighbor's VW. The live data graphing is smooth and really helps spot intermittent issues. The build quality is solid. It feels professional, not like a toy. The 8-inch screen is bright and responsive, even with greasy fingers. The included case is actually useful. Now, the real talk: 1. It's a wired connection. I knew this when buying it, and it's stable, but it does mean you're anchored to the driver's seat. If you absolutely need to walk around the engine bay with the tablet, this isn't the model for you. 2. Manage your expectations on "programming." For basic adaptations and resets, it's fantastic. But for true ECU flashing or key programming, you're looking at expensive add-ons. The description is clear about this. So, all in all, it meets all my needs as a DIY home repair enthusiast and can even handle most of the tasks a professional repair shop would handle. 100% worth the money!! ... show more

Scanner is top notch with the ability to deep dive into adaptive memory in the PCM and ECU. After cleaning my throttle body and putting everything back the way it was, the truck entered into limp mode “the flashing lighting bolt and esp”. I tried to pinpoint the problem without a scanner but couldn’t. This scanner was able to reset the codes but indicated the fault was still there. Special functions allows to look at real time voltages on the butterfly, tps1 and tps2 signals. Scanner showed live data of tps2 no signal voltage fluctuation when accelerating which meant the wire was loose. Giggled pin 5 in the throttlebody connector and problem fixed. Was also able to relearn throttlebody, clear adaptive memory in the PCM and reset the ECM. I’m a DIYer not a mechanic and scanner was easy to use after watching utube videos. It’s a bit pricey but it’s a professional scanner and you will need a AutoAuth account (separate) if you have a 2018 or newer jeep to get through the FCA system gateway SGW ( firewall) to have bidirectional controls. Powerful tool to have if you work on vehicles. I tried a foxwell nt710 scanner but it did not work (the bidirectional special functions would not allow me the access). Works great for my Porsche Cayenne. Great for diagnosing and monitoring things as well as programing/coding features. System is easy to use on surface level but offers really in depth programming if you want. I’m still in the “trial” for the software and have heard bad things about trying to reup it but for now, 5 stars all day. ... show more

I finally updated to X431 Pros Elite from my old code reader, and its massive step up. If you actually work on car, this isnt just a toy~ The biggest win here is bidirectional control. Being able to command fuel trim, injectors, and speed sensor directly turns diagnosis into actual science. I had a rough idle issue and used the active tests to rule out bad injectors in minutes-saved me from throwing $300in parts at dealer. Full system access is another big plus. With the AutoScan - the intelligent scan of ABS, SRS, transmission, and body modules, not just the engine- you can immediately access all trouble code and their definition. the live data graphing is clear and fast, making it way easier to spot weird sensor behavior compared to staring at static numbers. I have tested it on my Audi, my wife's Toyota, and a few friends' trucks - coverage is rock solid. Overall, this diagnostic scanner pays for itself. Highly recommended! ... show more
