    • All around amazing scantool
I work at an independent repair shop, so I see a little bit of everything. I bought this because I wanted one scanner that could cover most of the cars that come through the door without spending tool-truck money. So far, it’s been great. One job I used it on was a 2018 Ford F-150 that had a rough-running problem and an intermittent misfire. The power-balance screen made it pretty obvious which cylinder was acting up. I could watch the misfire data and fuel trims at the same time, and the bidirectional tests helped me narrow things down without wasting time checking every possible part. I also used it on a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee that came in with several warning lights and communication codes. AutoAuth worked without much trouble, and the topology map was really helpful. It showed the whole network on one screen, so I could quickly tell which module had the main fault and which codes were probably just caused by it. After the repair, I cleared everything and ran the tests again to make sure it was fixed. The scanner is fast, the screen is a good size, and the wireless connection has been reliable for me. Live data is easy to find and graph, and it has a ton of resets, relearns, adaptations, and active tests. I’ve used it on domestic, Asian, and European vehicles and haven’t run into many coverage problems. The first round of updates took a while, and there are so many menus that it takes a little time to learn where everything is. Other than that, I don’t have much to complain about. Okay, let’s get the main thing out of the way- this scan tool is awesome. For reference, I’m a ford senior master technician, and I have been in this field for 21 years. I got this scan tool because I’m the only one who works on non OE vehicles at my dealership, and I wanted something to provide as much coverage as possible. This tool does more than I hoped. It’s not my first Launch- I have a 4 year old x431 pro v 4.0+, a 2 year old crp91ebt and a 2 year old CReader 2.0. I like the larger screen, and decided that this year was the year to order a replacement for the 4.0+, and this scan tool was on sale. Large screen, faster processor, more ram, great coverage and compatibility, this filled all the boxes. It comes with the smart link 2.0, which plays nice with all the new networks. The package was boxed well- two hard cases in boxes, inside a box, inside another box. Nothings going to damage these during shipping. Opening the boxes reveals a multitude of adapters, and the scan tool/ethernet cable/VCI and adapters. I powered the scan tool up, 99% charge. Boot time was about 15 seconds, already faster than my 4.0+. I logged in with my Launch account, and checked for updates. 85 updates available, not surprising. It took the better part of an hour to get them downloaded, and then I set out to test the scan tool. While I am a ford tech, as stated I work on everything, and the first test vehicle was a 2022 ram. I got the serial number and registered it with my AutoAuth account, and connected the scan tool. Everything went smoothly, and after logging to AutoAuth I had access to the secure gateway module and was on my way. Now, something I want to mention here- this scan tool is SIGNIFICANTLY faster at pulling dtcs and detecting modules than any of my other tools. I posed a video, it’s literally seconds to detect every module and pull dtcs. Instantly fast, faster than my other Launch scanners, my Actron or Autel units, and a hell of a lot faster than IDS and FDRS. The tool is also beefy- not heavy and bulky, but the case itself in feels strong, and it should protect the scan tool very well. I’m really happy it has this case, as opposed to my old 4.0+ which didn’t feel this sturdy. Getting in to checking data, the same layout is used, which is good because it’s simple to use and it’s well laid out. Data logging is easy, and you can display a good amount of PIDs, as shown. Checking a Chevrolet, the results were the same- more than satisfactory. Tons of data, ease of use for retrieving and clearing dtcs, everything well laid out. Finally I took it to a super duty, my bread and butter. Pulling mass air flow sensor data was quick, as was going back and retrieving cylinder mass PIDs. Power balance is fast and crisp, and updates the graph data quickly. This scan tool has 99% of the reset functions that IDS and FDRS have, and using the bidirectional controls, I could test the egr valve and coolant bypass valve. After the repair, I used the scan tool to run a manual regeneration, which completed flawlessly. Overall this is an amazing scan tool. It works perfectly with my Launch TPMS wand and Launch battery tester, and this unit has the option for an oscilloscope as well. I will update if there are any issues, but I don’t foresee that being a concern. Overall, this is a professional scan tool that will cover most of what’s on the road. This scanner does it all! Its bi directional, J2534 compliant, has a large touchscreen with stand, and accepts many accessories such as lab scope, horoscope, battery tester, etc. These launch scanners are also very good with European makes as well. I used to have a Snap On Triton D10 that I used until I found out about these. You get all of the same power for a 10th of the price, and you dont have to pay massive update fees every 6 months. What sets this specific scanner aside from other Launch models is the fact that it can program, and it will now scan the whole car much faster than previous models have in the past. Did not have much luck. Quite a weird exit button: instead of bringing you one step back, it kicks you out to a main screen. Every new start is an authentication check … having bad luck reading Mercedes data is wrong; for example, freeze frame registered a speed of 257 and a temperature of -58?! Seriously?!?!?!?! This tool is awesome! It really does everything. It comes with a very high quality and durable fully featured android tablet for diagnostic use. Even better is it includes an extra box with tons of OBD adapters for all sorts of vehicles. It even has adapters for older OBD1 vehicles, and will work with heavy duty 24V trucks, vans, and industrial equipment. The tablet works with the LAUNCH smartlink diagnostic interface over bluetooth. The diagnostic interface connects to your vehicle. It has a full color touch screen as well so you can view connection and vehicle status right on the interface. Since the tablet is connected over bluetooth, you can use the tablet anywhere around the vehicle which can be very useful. The smartlink interface can be connected to a computer and used as a J2534 programming interface for use with OEM diagnostic software. It can then be used to program and update vehicle computers. Super powerful feature for a full service shop that works on many types of vehicles. The X431 Android app on the tablet is amazing. It is very easy to use, and includes all diagnostic routines plus special services and many extras. It can auto detect your vehicle, and shows you a topology map of all of your vehicle modules and systems. You can then access each one for further diagnosis. The unit is also expandable with many more tools including an oscilloscope module, key programmer, immobilizer programmer, borescope camera and more. UPDATE - I got it updated and It works better now. The dongle is still says unsupported mode (or something like that) but I just have to click ok for that to go away and it works fine. I hope I don't have to log in again because I have no idea where to log in or username and password to use. Initially, this scanner worked great—I registered it, and it did everything I needed. However, after an update, it started asking for a password. I logged in successfully the first time, but a few days later, it asked again, and my saved password no longer worked. No login method has worked since. I even tried the captcha, but I never received the PIN. At this point, the scanner is unusable, which is incredibly frustrating, especially since I purchased an extended warranty. I'll try a few more troubleshooting steps before considering a return, but right now, it's feeling like an expensive paperweight. ... show more

Amazing product. Personally I would go with the d8 with topography and immobilizer standard for less than half the price. I had both and the pro3 has more functionality and a little bit easier interface but for what I use it for, the xtool d8s is plenty and the fact that it can create keys with all keys lost.. for That price, its a no brainer plus you get topo. ... show more
