There is one fault with these Launch scanners, and that is that they are useless out of the box. They specifically ship them in such a state that until you sign up and register and update this, it can't be used. At all. So it pretty much limits itself to people that work in a shop with a good Wi-Fi signal. A do-it-yourselfer just looking to scan an occasional car he's working on won't get much use out of this, because most of those folks want to be done with the scanning process by the time you're just getting this set up to use. Maybe. Now, if you work in a Wi-FI rich environment and work on different cars day in and day out, you won't mind getting paid for an hour or 2 on the clock while you set up and update your new Launch scanner. The boss might not like it, but what are they going to do, you need it to work, right? The feature set is pretty packed. It even has a built in camera and light so you can snap and upload pics, which can be pretty darn useful. The case it comes in is even better than any other scanner I've owned, and I've owned a few. Do note that the app is model specific, and when you go to the Launch website there is a HUGE list of QR codes and different models to scan for the proper app. You will want to make sure you get the right one, as they make a ton of different models. If you work professionally in a Wi-Fi enabled shop, you will really like this scanner as it offers a ton of features at a price point quite a bit lower than many I've seen from various brands. But if you're a do-it-yourselfer, you might want to pass on this and go for something a little more "ready to go" out of the box, like a simple Innova scanner or something. 4 stars, and if it was only ready to plug in and go to work out of the box with the OPTION to update the software, when and if needed, it would have been 5. I get tired of having to set up every little thing with an internet connection just to get it working.

Purchase the scanner thinking I can reprogram a module and delete codes for check engine light some reason the scanner doesn't do it costs all kinds of money after replacing parts

I'm a "prosumer" mechanic who has used diagnostic tools for years. I bought a CRP129X scanner in 2021 and have gotten much use out of it. It came with 5 years of updates, so it's still relevant if slow. This Launch X431 PRO Elite addresses many issues I had with the old unit. It is faster, more responsive, and has a better screen. There are substantially more functions, parameters, and abilities. For example, on my 1996 Ford Ranger, my old scanner and the new LAUNCH X431 CRP919E show 21 parameters, while this LAUNCH X431 PRO Elite shows 110! If you can afford the difference between $372 and $645, you'll find this to be a professional level and well worth the extra cost. It's important to know that while 2 years of updates for free, there is no option to purchase updates after the 2 years though you can continue to use it without renewing the subscription. , and will not affect normal use."
