  • Great unit but things to know first
Items liked: 1. Very easy to use but read instructions to know exactly what you can do and how to get the most out of the unit. 2. Very sturdy and rugged unit so it seems it can take a beating if needed. 3. Very bright LED screen and easily viewed in bright daylight so you don't have to worry about where you are when trying to see what is happening on the unit. 4. Large print for those who cannot see small type without reading glasses. 5. Quickly finds vehicle's VIN automatically. I was worried about this since I saw others say they couldn't get it to work after updates. Purchased this in 10/22, updated it, and still no issues with it finding VIN's. 6. Able to e-mail "some" diagnostic reports (see below for what the "some" are exactly) to you or a friend/customer to let them be able to research what is wrong with their car by looking up the error codes. Just remember to put all your information in when setting up the unit. Also, when you e-mail it to yourself (by 'sharing'), I have found you must remove the semicolon (;) if it is only to yourself when the menu comes up to share. If you want to add someone also to the e-mail list (besides yourself) then leaving the semicolon on. If you want to just send it to someone then remove your e-mail that comes up and type in the one you want it to send it to because your e-mail will come up as a default address to send it to. Items Don't Like: 1. For the DIY'ers I would say having to buy full function software ($38.50 per vehicle manufacture currently) to know "exactly" what is wrong with vehicle was a disappointment to find out prior to purchasing. It does read what is wrong in a 'general sense,' but to pinpoint exactly what is wrong you have to purchase the subscription. An example would be on my BMW it said there was a PDC error (parking distance control error), but it did not tell me any more until I purchased the full subscription for BMW. After purchasing the full version of the software and re-read the DTC's, it told me exactly what sensor (back left middle) was faulty culprit and then I was able to correct the issue immediately. Although it was much cheaper than taking the vehicle to a mechanic and having them charge me over $100 for an "one-time read," you do have the subscription for a year and can re-check (as many times as you want) to see if your repair fixed completely what needed to be fixed instead of just assuming it was fixed because you don't want to go back and spend an additional $100+ for another reading. 2. You can e-mail and print off "diagnostic reports," but you cannot e-mail and print the "diagnostic record" of live stream information which you recorded. I have searched and searched on this subject for this device on this topic and cannot find the answer. So, if anyone who knows this answer if there is one, please get back to me on my question I posted for this unit on this question. Again, you can e-mail the "diagnostic reports" but not the "diagnostic records" for the live stream information section. I am wondering if there could be an USB added, or maybe a different cable to this unit, to dump everything off (like a different cable end for the OBD II cable). This would be a great feature to be able to e-mail/print and review on a larger screen since the graph/value/combine shows the live data as it was recorded and there is no way to zoom in on the device itself. 3. Feedback seems to take an unbelievable amount of time to receive. I submitted a "feedback" on 2022-10-11 and as of 2022-10-31 I am still waiting on a reply. It currently says it is "in progress" but it's been like this for a while now. 4. It would be nice if you could click on the error codes within the report to have it look them up automatically for you instead of you having to remember what the code/s was/were to search them yourself on a different device. Maybe this is in another function within the unit but most of the time (especially during the winter for DIY'ers) you want to just read and/or record the functions of the car and then go inside to see what is wrong. UPDATE: You can search on the device, but you have to be connected to the internet (mobile hotspot or some sort of other wifi), and you have to exit after the initial VIN scan to go to the main page. There you have to push on the OBD II icon and NOT the DIAGNOSE tab. From there it will scan just like the diagnose tab, but there you will be able to search the codes (again..given you are connected to wifi in some manner). Overall thoughts: Overall I would say it has been fantastic for me. Just for fun I took it to look at a vehicle I was thinking about purchasing and found a huge discrepancy with the vehicle. The milage did not read correctly on the vehicle for what the odometer was reporting. The computer came back with 154,000 miles MORE than what was showing on the vehicle's odometer). I left before verifying that the auto-search VIN number on the device did match the VIN on the device, but I did reach out to the seller to verify and never got any response back from the seller in regards to this question. So, it seems the vehicle had indeed been clocked or messed with in someway in my opinion. I took what it would have cost me to have my vehicle read by a mechanic's shop (over $100) and purchased the subscriptions to three different vehicles for a year. Well worth the money that I have invested and it seems this reader will be a great help in the future for this YouTube watching mechanic. ... show more

  • great code reader for all types of mechanic from backyard to professionals
my daughter bought me this for a birthday gift as she was tired of me searching for different scanners for different systems , im glad she did as this this one has the ability to read check engine lights , transmissions , abs , airbags, reset oil lights , electric parking breaks , steering sensors , and tpms and throttle control units and battery life , its basically a all in one unit ,it auto detects the vin number of the car so you don't have to go searching for it ,it has a large 5.0" touch screen that makes all features easy to read and access , it also has free lifetime updates , it has a battery so it don't have to be plugged to the car so you can show your clients / customers codes without having it plugged to the car ,(it gets charge off the obd2 port) it also has WiFi so you can connect to wifi for updates so you don't have to plug it to the computer to update it , it is very well constructed and comes with a rubber case around it encase you drop it it wont break , it also comes with a storage case and free gift and all the cables you need to operate it ,overall i am very impressed with this scanner for the price , i have priced out scanners from other places that are 10x the price and come nowhere close to this one , i would recommend any backyard mechanic or professional to have one of these in their tool boxes its well worth the money and very simple to use , def a 9/10 in my books ... show more

  • well made, nice scanner
previously i had an autozone special palm scanner and it did the job finding the codes i needed. decided to get this due to issues in scanning a pcm on a ford f350 from 1996 and it did fantastically. its can run multiple tests to check the system, it runs a diagnostic report if you want it to save it. detects codes on SRS, ABS, transmission, and engine. very very acurate in compairison. the live testing features are crazy nice to have and FAR more acurate. saved me a trip to the dealership to do a more in depth diagnosis on the ford. old scanner wouldnt pick up the cam position fault code and this thing detected it instantly. well worth the cash and a far better product than your average palm scanner. the trip to get it checked would have cost $160 for a "vehicle diagnosis" well that almost paid for the scanner anyhow so it all works out. ... show more
