Overall an extremely good value. This set has everything you need to get sharpening whether it’s your kitchen knives, bushcraft knives and tools, specialty hobby tools, woodworking chisels, carving chisels, it is versatile for all of your needs. I purchased this set because I needed something I could use for all of my blades no matter their condition. I have some with pits that need the coarsest stone. Others just needed touch ups so this fit my needs perfectly. The price was fair and I liked that it came with strop and compound. Maybe some day I’ll buy diamond stones but for now this is great. The items came well packaged and quickly. I recommend this for personal use or as a gift. Best of luck.

These stones are ok, but since I am a beginner, I needed to see the tutorials in YouTube. There are a lot and some very good ones. Look at them before you do any “sharpening”… it will save you a lot of time and frustration. I am still learning to use then with wood carving chisels

It's a great value for the whole package, and is great for sharpening everything from ax heads to scalpel blades to planer irons. The angle guide is a nice addition, however, it could be a little more precise when used. I can alter the angle when sharpening something like a construction razor, but there is nothing in the angle guide to ensure that angle will be retained throughout the sharpening process. Also, the flattening stonee is not as great as I have had with other sharpening kits. It works quickly, but it is not as hard as the full size types with chevron's cut into the surface. This means it won't last as long, and it is not large enough to cover the entire sharpening stone at once. That makes it tricky to get a sharpening stone perfectly flat. But the stones, the leather strop, the compound, and the flat leather finishing tool is effective for touching up blades, working them to a high shine with a little jeweler's rouge, and getting just about any blade to a surgically sharp edge. Obviously, this depends upon the width of the primary bevel and the length of the cutting bevel, so you can't go expecting to get an ax head as sharp as the tools a surgeon employees. That would require you have some metal working skill to change the angle of the primary bevel and give yourself some more room for the length and therefore width of the cutting bevel. The green compound on leather is very helpful for this last step in sharpening your tools. But a cake of jeweler's rouge would be nice to have as well, as it works well for finishing and buffing blades without removing metal in the process. I personally use jeweler's rouge with my other leather strop to keep my shaving straight razor in top condition without causing the blade to be worn away. While I have a relatively cheap straight razor for experimentation and developing muscle memory. I also possess an heirloom razor of Birmingham steel which was built before the American Civil War. It is a beautiful and timeless piece of work which many predecessors of mine used as officers for the Union Army and US Navy, back when it was common for officers to have a batman, among whose duties would be to give his assigned officer a clean shave on a regular basis. Clearly, I would not wish to damage the double hollow grind and acid etched facings. Thus, a buffing compound which will clean up but not remove any of the steel and potentially damage the acid etched decorations is an absolute necessity. This kit would be invaluable to a batman's regular duties. The imperfect angle guide, undersized flattening Stone, and lack of a compound which is more gentle on metal are my only concerns. And this package is still worth owning both for the quality of the sharpening stones and the price for the total package.

This kit is well worth the money. Other similar kits can cost upwards of $80. I sharpened 5 of my knives as soon as I opened the package and they are all shaving sharp. The included strop is decent but not the greatest but once again for the price the kit is amazing.

While it does add an edge to dull knives - this is Not like buying a new and durable expensive knife, the new edge is good for a few weeks but it all depends mostly on the quality of the knife rather than the whetstone, does add scratches to knife surface (visual scratches), need to put in a 10-15 min effort every other month or once in 3 months
