I liked my old atomic clock so much, I bought this one for my special needs brother. As long as I keep the batteries changed, I never have to worry about it not working when the power goes out. This is the 5th La Crosse "Atomic Clock" device we've bought. They provide excellent time keeping, thanks to the "atomic" clock and radio update at the National Bureau of Standards. They also let you monitor indoor and outdoor temperature. The latter relies on a small outdoor transmitter. (Here in Phoenix, that transmitter is best kept in the shade, lest it report temperatures more suited to the planet Mercury.) So far, we've experienced three failures of the outdoor temperature receiver in the main display unit. Indoor temps and "atomic" time remained functioning. Fingers crossed that this unit and another still fully working model will break the cycle of failures. Due to past experiences with these units, we just can't give it a full five stars. ... show more

I bought this clock to replace a SkyScan atomic clock that I had used for 15-years. SkyScan appears to have been purchased by La Crosse Technology. So my expectations were that this clock would be the same high quality as the SkyScan model which I had been so pleased with until it failed. The first clock I received was defective. It would not update the time. I returned it to Amazon and received a second clock as a replacement. The replacement works as advertised. It keeps excellent time, updating itself multiple times each day. The programming buttons are much easier to use as they are located along the top edge rather than in the back as was my previous clock. The one negative is that this clock must be turned to face north or south in order to receive the atomic radio broadcast necessary for it to update. At least that’s the case here at my location in Missouri. This required me to use a different wall on which to locate it than previously. Overall I believe this clock still deserves 5-stars. ... show more
