Description

The tradition of string making for the Mari family was first recorded in Salle, Italy in the 1640s. The “House of Mari” supplied gut strings to legendary violin makers Amati, Cremona & Stradivari. In 1913, brothers Emilio and Olinto Mari left Italy to seek new opportunities in America, settling in NYC where they handmade gut strings in their small apartment. After much success, they opened their first factory in 1914, and soon after started making strings under the brand “La Bella”. La Bella is the oldest continuously family-owned and operated string maker in the world. Every set is manufactured in our facility in New York using a perfect combination of traditional methods and latest technologies to produce a superior string. Suitable for all genres of music, our strings utilize the best constructions around, creating very bright and long-lasting strings. Our string utilize the best available material and technique, resulting in naturally longer lasting string. We never sacrifice quality. From rounds to flats, we’ve earned our reputation as hands down the best bass string maker in the world. Each classical guitar set is the product of decades of research with quality and tone at the forefront of every set. We’re one of the only string makers to focus on the flamenco genre, providing players with the best options for flamenco music. Our acoustic folk strings utilize the best materials and techniques in the market, resulting in naturally longer lasting strings. From strings for double bass jazz players, to student-sized violin strings, La Bella has a set for nearly every genre and level. We combine high-quality material with local knowledge to produce professional quality set for the most obscure and regional instrument. The tradition of string making dates back to the 1640s in Salle, Italy, where the Mari family supplied gut strings to the famous violin builders of Cremona. In 1913, brothers Olinto & Emilio Mari arrived in New York bringing their family craft to the States. Over the years, the brothers shaped the landscape of the string industry with their innovative designs. Every set is manufactured using a perfect combination of traditional methods and latest technologies to produce a superior string. La Bella’s Low Tension Flats are the best-selling light tension flat wound string on the market. Adopting the same techniques behind our world-famous Deep Talkin’ Bass strings, the Low Tension Flats deliver the same classic sound but without the floppy-string effect associated with other light tension flat wound strings.

  • Nice and smooth
Size: Long Scale - 42-118
Should have known about the strings earlier. I love the strings, going to order more for my other three bass guitars.t Make my bass sounds awesome. Nice and smooth. Don’t hurt finger tips.

  • Awesome sounding flats!
After a long run with Thomastik Infeld Jazz Flats (>20 years!) I decided to give these a try, mostly for the low tension. The neck on my bass had gradually developed a bit more relief than I want, so I took it to a great local guitar tech for a set up and had him install these. I wish I'd tried them years ago! The TI's were (for me) always considered the 'gold standard' in flat wound strings. I have tried the LaBella Deep Talkin' set and didn't care for them. The price of the TI's has gone way up I suppose due to the nickel, and they're known to be a relatively high tension set, thus the selection of these Low Tension Flats. They rock! If you like flat wound strings, this is it! The lows are really good like other flats, but the high's are so good, just where so many flat wound strings suffer! Very articulate and clear-- almost like a round wound string on the G. Love these! Now if they last like the TI's... ... show more

  • They are definitely lighter in tension than any other flat-wound set I’ve tried.
Size: Long Scale - 42-118
I needed to switch from Roto round-wounds, which I had used for decades, to flat-wounds to try to get less wear on a natural ebony fretboard. I have a custom, five-string fretless with fantastic electronics that runs through an Ampeg/Hartke rig. I loved the sound of the Rotos, so this was a decision forced upon me. I tried La Bella round-wounds first before moving on to the flat-wound sets. Those La Bellas positively roared. I tried a different set of flat-wounds, but they were so stiff and tense as to be nearly unplayable. I decided to give the La Bella low-tension strings a try. I am now entering on my fourth decade as a bassist, and low-tension flats allow me to pull off those beautiful sixteenth patterns with less wear-and-tear on my aging joints which is a problem that has grown intense in the last ten years. Between these for my fretless and Roto’s FunkMaster set for the fretted, the physical effort is manageable, while the tone through my pro-level gear is as good or better than what I used before changing over. These are a little bit pricey, and I could do with even lighter tension, but these are definitely an upgrade in both tone and playability. ... show more

  • The best strings I've ever used..
Size: Long Scale - 42-118
My favorite strings! I have had lots of comments about how good they sound. Even had interest from a music store owner/bass player after he tried mine out. Unless something better comes along these will be my go to strings..

  • Labella low tension flats.
Size: Long Scale - 42-118
I replaced a set of D'addario Chromes with these strings and I found them to be much easier to play. These seem to be a good alternative to the expensive TI flats.

  • My new favorite strings!
These are my new favorite strings. Not only because they're flat wounds but I like the gauge and the feel.

  • Easy on the fingers!
Size: Long Scale - 42-118
My husband loves them, so smooth and easy on his fingers. He's thinking about putting them on his other guitars.

  • Amazing flat-wound strings, I'm hooked!
Size: Long Scale - 42-118
I play with a Praise band, and the flats on my Yamaha BB 5-string make the right P-J sound for most worship songs, but, traditional flats can sound too dead for some songs and are harder to play because of the heavier gauge on flats. These strings answer both those questions with an easy playing thinner flat the can provide a brighter sound needed on many songs. I especially like being able to slide the stings quietly on flats where round-wounds give the "VrrrrrrrP" sound that my sound-guy hates and has to clamp, but clamping, clamps sounds you DO want too... so, these are great. If I were playing a lot of hot pop or 80s rock, I'd run rounds, but Worship music, these fit the bill nicely.. tweak the mid-range/treble and run the bridge-pickup a bit hotter and you're plenty bright. ... show more
