Thought I had a defective product, turns out the lower stem is inside the heavy, slotted stem. Got it working and in minutes, found a missing drill bit I lost in the yard. The product seems to beep randomly with no apparent reason. When I sweep back over what previously made it beep, I cannot get it to detect again. I have played with the sensitivity and eliminating some sources and it stops working completely or is completely unrepeatable in its operation. I purchased this hoping to locate my electronic dog fence and I spent 2+ hours with it and I cannot reliably detect the wire. I threw the box out too early. Nothing spectacular but okay for a beginner. I’d give it 4 stars, but the arm brace and handle are uncomfortable pretty soon into using it.
