Description

The SmartCode touchscreen electronic deadbolt is a one-touch locking motorized deadbolt. With your personalized code, you can enter your home with the convenience of keyless entry and the back-lit keypad provides increased visibility. It features patented SecureScreen™ technology to prevent code detection from fingerprints on the touchscreen. SmartCode is easy to install, program and use, and operates on 4 AA batteries. It also features SmartKey Security as the back-up keyway. This single cylinder deadbolt can be locked or unlocked by using the keypad or key from the outside as well as the turn button from the inside. The Venetian Bronze finish is hand-rubbed to reveal unique bronze highlights and provides a rich and warm complement to the product's style.

Keyless door locks are pretty much divided in two groups: basic function ones, and the over-the-top “smart” ones. If you are looking for a basic function keyless door lock, trust me, Kwikset 270 is the one you want. And this is why: -Just two basic functions: electronic keyless operation or regular manual operation with a traditional key (this is really a backup in case the batteries die). -Easy to install -Easy to program -Solid construction -Beautiful design/finish (we got the Venetian Bronze and it looks extremely elegant) My top three favorite features of the lock are: -SmartKey Re-Key: Basically, instead of using the keys that come with the unit, you can set the unit to accept the house key you already have (especially useful if such key also opens other locks in the house). It is very simple to do. -Key Pad: instead of individual silicone or plastic buttons that protrude, it is a flat type of surface that looks better and feels better to the touch. It is not a digital screen like a cell phone, buttons are still there but they are recessed. They also light up when you press them. The numbers are very large and easy to see. -AutoLock: close the door and the unit will lock itself automatically after 30 seconds (you can program different times, but 30 secs is that fastest you can do). Easy, done. This is a nice feature if you have children or guests and you worry that somebody might suddenly forget to lock the door on their way out. Peace of mind knowing the lock will take care of itself. Note: If the programable times for the Autolock feature are a concern, the Kwikset 270 allows you to disable the Autolock feature completely at any moment. When disabled, to lock the door you MUST always press the little lock symbol on the keypad . Many people have mixed feelings about keyless door locks that lock/unlock automatically because they drain batteries faster and they are also loud. I think Autolock is a nice option to have overall. Battery life and noise levels seem adequate on this unit. Very happy with this unit so far. I also got the Kwikset matching fancy door handle with a matching finish. It's not very clear, but I like that you can program this deadbolt with 4 to 8 digits. You can also assign a one-time code, as well as multiple permanent codes for different users. The unit is fairly easy to install for any layperson with do-it-yourself skills. I find it to be as solid as the standard deadbolt it replaced. I appreciate the optional auto-lock feature, which can be programmed between 1 and 10 minutes. The beeps (when pressing the keys) are fine by me, but that feature can be turned off as well. The keypad is nice, it illuminates well, and is super easy to lock on the way out. All you need is to press the lock icon after closing the door. The buttons require a firm press, but nothing unusual. This is not a Wi-Fi unit, so there's no app available for it. However, it's not advertised as such. ... show more

It was so nice to give out codes to workers and real estate agent so I didn’t have to go let them in every morning and lock up at night. When it came time to installing a keyless entry, we had two requirements. 1) we did want a keyed option and 2) we didn't want some fancy-schmancy "smart" lock with wifi and phone apps and blah blah blah. This unit fits the bill perfectly. Easy to install and to set codes. And thanks to Kwikset's SmartKey it was easy to re-key to the other doors on our house (we only wanted keyless on the main entrance. It's been about two months now and so far it has worked well. Even if the batteries or minimal electronics fail, we've got our backup key well hidden and inside a lock box, so we can still get in without a hassle. ... show more

I can’t believe I waited so many years to try out one of these electronic locks. Specifically, this lock looks very nice and feels high-quality. If you’re replacing an existing lock of the same brand, it is such a simple installation you’ll kick yourself for waiting. If I were to do the whole process on a second lock, where I wouldn’t have to read the instructions, it would take me less than five minutes to install it. It’s easy to program as long as you realize the check mark in the instruction seems to actually hit the checkmark on the keypad. One of the best features is the ability to key the lock to an existing key. So, for example, I didn’t have to involve the landlord, I simply installed the new lock, used the smart key to re-key to the existing old keys. The landlord can still get in and I don’t have to make new keys. Of course if didn’t want to use the old key, you can use the keys that came with it. I would definitely recommend this lock and will be buying a second lock for my other property. No more worries about getting guests coming into town, a key, if I’m not at the house when they arrive. ... show more
