Description

Aura is a Bluetooth-enabled smart lock with one-touch locking and a motorized deadbolt. Within Bluetooth range of the lock, you can use the Kwikset app to control the lock, manage lock settings, and assign user codes. With your personalized code, you can enter your home with the convenience of keyless entry. Aura is easy to install and operates on 4 AA batteries. This single cylinder deadbolt can be locked or unlocked by using the keypad or key from the outside as well as the turn button from the inside. The Venetian Bronze finish is hand-rubbed to reveal unique bronze highlights and provides a rich and warm complement to the product's style.

But please note that I received this item for free in exchange for my honest review. === Review begins: We have been talking for awhile about getting electronic locks for the four-plex, so finally I took a shot at getting one to start with and go from there. This was one I wanted since Kwikset key blanks are easy to get or making extra keys. So let's go over the Pros and Cons of this lock. What's in the box? Every part you could need is included almost. The one exception is if you have a round strike hole and latch bolt. Full detailed instructions in English and Spanish. SmartKey tool. This is for if you already have a Kwikset deadbolt lock with more than 2 keys for it. You can re-key your Aura to use your existing Kwikset (only) keys. We opted for this since we have 10 people with a key to the front door, and it was simple to re-key the lock to the existing keys. Installation Template for new doors. QR Code to download the App (needed for assigning codes via Bluetooth) Installation time: It took me about 20 minutes to swap out the lock and get the app installed. This will be more if you are installing a new door and need to not only cut a hole in the door, but also chisel out the strike. I was using an existing door so it was not a problem we would have had. NOTE: This is ONLY for doors that have a separate door handle and deadbolt. If you have a rim lock, mortise set or integrated deadbolt/entry knob this lockset will not work for you. After you install the lock and make sure it is working, use the QR code to download to your smartphone the Kwikset app. Things we liked: Easy to install 20 Minute fire rating Everything including batteries was in the kit. Can assign up to 250 user codes WITH access restrictions. Anytime, One Time, Scheduled. It is also easy to rescind a code, say if you change housekeepers. One touch locking Auto-Lock. You can set the lock to re-lock after x amount of seconds. Low battery warning. Hands-free unlocking from your smartphone. Must be in Bluetooth range ~ 100 feet/30.5 Meters Up to 8 users can have the app on their phones in the same account. Multiple locks can be paired to the app. Stats reports on when the lock was accessed and by who. (Must be in Bluetooth range to grab the stats from the lock) Traditional Keyway. Even though this is an electronic lock, I recommend that you carry the key, in cases the batteries die while you are out of the house, since if this happens, the lock will stay in the last position (locked/Unlocked) that it is in when the batteries die. Easy to re-key with the included Smart-Key tool. I only had to re-key it once, and all 10 keys that existed work. KWIKSET KEYS ONLY. What we did NOT like: Installing and configuring the app. I had to do 3 separate verifications before the app would consider itself installed. Then you have to add each user, and to make them an admin, it has to e-mail an invite to them. The only admins are my wife and myself, but I had to send her an invite. Sheesh! After that though, adding a user and assigning a code was easy. Aura does NOT Currently work with Google Home or Alexa, but I imagine they are working on that now. I am NOT deducting a star for this. I understand security issues. All in all though, for ease of installation and use, I like this product. I like that I can be in the car, and send an unlock signal and just walk right in, and then it will re-lock behind me. Here is a partial list of the phones AND tablets the Aura App will work with. I have a friend who is a locksmith who came over to try and pick it or bump it. He was not able to pick it using a set of picks, and even using an electronic pick gun, it still took him almost 10 minutes to jiggle the pins correctly. He rated the lock A+ in his opinion, and he has been a licensed locksmith for over 30 years. That is good enough for me to recommend this as a buy. Great buy. Easy to install and works great. If you download the app there is a pdf and video guide. We also used the smart key to key our other Kwikset locks so that they all use the same key. Very convenient.

I was worried after reading a lot of negative reviews on Amazon. But my experience was excellent. It mounted in place of my prior deadbolt VERY easy. I had nothing but a philip’s head screwdriver. I was able to install the app on my phone, create the account, add the lock to my account, sync to the lock to update firmware and set the passcode. All will zero effort. No problems, it walked me through the steps and it worked first time on ever step. Honestly, I couldn’tbe happier that I chose this lock. ... show more

This keypad looks great and has a lot of good features. It was fairly easy to install, however it was tricky separating the "door plate" from the unit. The key pad is on the front of the door and if you have the standard 2" hole in your door you will need to use the gold ring that come with the unit. On the other side of the door you have 3 parts. The "door plate", the electronic unit itself, and the plastic cover. It was a bit challenging to separate the door plate from the electronic unit because it is stuck on there pretty good. At first I thought you had to loosen screws to separate, but this is not the case, you just need strong fingernails or a thin screwdriver to gently separate. It comes with 4 AA's, but they are generic batteries and you will probably need to swap them out with longer lasting batteries. Keep your smart phone handy because you will want to download the app that can control the door remotely. It connected to our internet with ease as well as to our phone. You get to enter about 250 codes, which is great if you use your place as a rental. The app is super easy to use and makes it convenient. You can also program the keypad with different functions, such as auto lock or muted keypad entry. The only downside to the unit is that is it super noisy! I don't know if the noise will improve over time, but you definitely hear it from across the room. Otherwise very handy to have and I would recommend this product. ... show more

My only complaint is that the locking mechanism is somewhat noisy when it locks & unlocks using the electronically, but it’s minor. I had entertained buying one of these for some time. I have a wife that constantly checks to see if the dorr is locked. I have been locked out of my own house just getting the mail she asked me to check. also i have decided to walk to the store to find i had no keys and my wife had left to run errands and the door was locked. My wife and i vacation often, and this has its challenges too. I have to leave a key with someone so that my mail and other things are attended to, plants, petrs, and my aquarium. occasionally my son may stay while we are gone to look after our place and of course have a break too. The need for this tpe of lock started sounding very interesting to me. There are several features that i liked, one i can rekey the lock for my existing key that i used for the old lock. two i can assign a passcode for individuals, so i can be notified of each time a person accesses the house. three i can open the lock with my phone via bluetooth with the app. I also like that at anytime you can lock out the keypad. Through the app you can assign codes or change/delete them. Here are yuor options once the lock has been installed, you can use the key, or the app, or input your keypad code. you can never be locked out. I even have a "guest" code for times that i may let someone in to get something i dont want to leave outside, or let someone check something in the house. One thing i wanted you to know is that this is just as easy as installing a regular lock, the instructions are very well written, there is also video that will definately help the visual learners.
