  • Great WiFi Deadbolt, Especially For Those Who Want To Go Keyless
Color: Venetian Bronze Style: Keypad
First, ignore the reviews about bad battery life with certain WiFi routers. A firmware has been release to fix battery issues. I've been looking at "Smart" locks for my home for a couple of years now. I've seen demos, played around with them in store, put one brand or another in my cart, Lily to walk back and return them to the shelves. That was until I found this lock. I made a purchase in a store for my first and paid almost $30 more. Not this time, I ordered my second from Amazon and with what I saved, I purchased the door handles. Installation was a breeze as was the set up. It actually took more time to update the firmware than anything else. The inky "Con" I can find with ALL of the smart deadbolt locks was the motor noise. I'm not expecting any of these to be silent. I've seen reviews where the complaint was the noise. Well, I mean, if you've got someone asleep and you feel the lock will wake them, use the key; otherwise, this lock is one of the best security upgrades I've made! I'm a light sleeper, and in a house with all wood floors and sound that carries, it doesn't bother me. With this lock, I can assign up to 250 codes, establish the expiration on them, and so much more. Remotely being able to lock and unlock the door is excellent, and if I'm at home and the WiFi is out, I can still do it via blue tooth. Why? Emergencies. This lock has it all. Locking the door on your way out is as easy as pressing the lock button on the keypad! You can use Alexas Voice commands to lock and unlock the door as well. When you voice unlock, Alwxa will ask you for your verbal code, so no worries on someone yelling for Alexa (or google home) to unlock the door from outside. If you feel you don't want the keypad, do whatever reason, it can be turned off. Have a longer day at work and the dogs need out? Simple! Add a temporary code for the neighbor to help you out! Alexa will not let you control these as a group though. It'll say it lacks the capabilities. No worries, I've go you on this! Go into the Alwxa App, the Devices, and create a Routine. Since I have one of the from and rear doors, I have a routine that I can say "Alexa, Secure the house", " Alexa, Lock the doors" or "Alexa, Lock the house" and both door are locked simultaneously. Each time the door is locked or unlocked, it's logged and you get a notification on your phone and/or your tablet. You can disable these notifications on your devices if you don't want them, but I find it really nice to know when and what door was locked or unlocked. These locks are sturdy as well. They hold some pretty high security certifications so you know your doors will be secure. I simply cannot speak highly enough about these dead bolts. ... show more

  • Finally!!! A WiFi Lock for the People!
Color: Satin Nickel Style: Keypad
This lock is amazing. The only thing I would want to do that it doesn’t is set a schedule to lock at night. maybe I can do that through Alexa. As of current doesn’t appear it works with Google Home though the ad insinuates it does. Other than that amazing. Kw1 is a common key..the other option was Schlage, but then I would have had to re-key my whole house. Rekeying this was easy and I could use my existing key. Took literally two seconds after reading the directions. Bluetooth was a bit finicky. But make sure to factor in network reset first. If it hangs up check your Bluetooth and forget the device and then try again. I don’t know what all the fuss is about the app. It’s pretty straightforward. As is the install. If you’re not handy get somebody else to do it. UPDATE SEPT 2020: Still love these locks, but they EAT batteries....replacing 4 AAs every 2-3 months. Switching over to Lithium. Tech is still great. KwikSet though refused to acknowledge that these EAT batteries..have contacted them and they keep telling me to reset, press this button here, that button there...everything except acknowledge the truth. Would still buy it..life changer...especially with kids and people going in/out constantly ... show more

  • Nice hardware, terrible software
Color: Venetian Bronze Style: Keypad
This one is going back; not sure what I’ll replace it with yet. Disappointed since my home is all Kwikset. 1) The app is garbage. Difficult to create an account because of poor UX and buggy password logic. Buggy lock “history” screen is sorted by date/time, but some lock/unlock events not sorted into position and appear at end of list. At some point new events stopped being added to the history at all. No mechanism in-app to view or update the lock WiFi settings - must reset from the lock itself and re-add it to your account. 2) The WiFi connection never worked at all. During setup it found my network, accepted the password and said it was connected. The app reports it is connected. The lock never receives commands via WiFi though, and the app reports that it must be offline. If I’m within Bluetooth range then it will lock/unlock via the app. 3. I was never able to successfully add additional user codes. When I add a new code it renders in yellow and shows a warning when tapped that “the app and the lock are syncing”, but that almost never completes, even with the Bluetooth connection active. One time it appeared to successfully add the new code, but the lock wouldn’t accept it. ... show more

  • Hoped for the best, got the worst
Color: Venetian Bronze Style: Keypad
I have been a longtime user of Kwikset powerbolt locks and they rank as 5's in my book. When I read about this, I was very excited to use it for our rental property in Florida(we live in Tenn.). It took about a year after it was introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show to get to market. I got it about 4 months ago. When I first tried to install it, it would not find my wi-fi. We had several other electronics having no problem locating our wi-fi signal but the lock only worked as a deadbolt and not with the wi-fi. After several attempts over 2 weeks, I finally called and spoke to Kwikset service. The first line of service immediately sent me to the advanced technical team. They very efficiently and nicely walked me through a process which required me to undo all traces of the lock on my app and on the lock itself and re-install everything. Amazingly, it worked. Now , 4 months later and with a renter at the house, the lock just stopped recognizing any codes and after several changes of batteries, it keeps saying that batteries are low. I can't make a 12 hour trip to Florida every time there is a glitch, so, unfortunately, I am going to buy an old style Powerbolt and install that and throw this poorly operating lock away. $275 wasted. I like Kwikset products but this was introduced before it was ready and needs another couple of iterations before I look at it again. Save yourself some money and frustration and use the old tried and true until Kwikset really gets this market ready. ... show more
