I replaced my regular deadbolt with this. The install was pretty straight-forward The app worked great, although I was concerned because I have the Google mesh router and it isn't listed as a "compatible router" by Kwikset. That may just mean it will wear the batteries fast, not sure yet I only installed it 6 days ago . At first the app seemed great (showed history, I could set codes, unlock/lock door) until I went out of the house (and was on someone else's wifi). Then I realized it was communicating only via Bluetooth. (so I couldn't use the app outside the house). When I got back home, I shut off Bluetooth on my phone and forced it to use wifi to check if it could. I could see it accessing my router from Google Home app. After that, it works fine everywhere. I guess? this was the fix. Time will tell. I will update the review if anything happens later on. UPDATE- This has worked great for almost 3 years now. The only problem I am experiencing is when I change the batteries it loses connection. This has happened the last 2 changes (about every 3-4 months). I have to reset the lock, then delete it from the app & re-add it. But it's not a big deal now that I know this. I still would recommend this.

Works great. To address issues others raised— Battery life: The batteries it ships with are junk. They quickly run down. Get a good quality, long-life fresh battery and the unit battery life is reasonable. — jamming: your door and locket must be installed properly. You should be able to turn the lock with zero resistance or it will jam. If you have to push or pull on the door to relieve pressure on the cylinder, it will jam. A manual lock can be turned with force and made to work, this lock set requires proper installation. I had to realign the sleeve in the door jam that receives the bolt so it would go in without excessive friction. The lock works great when properly installed and the battery life is fine if you toss the batteries that shipped with the unit and install fresh decent ones. Not saying that every unit is perfect but I have 2 and am satisfied with them.

4 out of 4 halo electronic door locks I purchased 4 of these of different dates. I would rate this a 0. **1 Star – Save Your Money** I purchased four Kwikset Halo locks for family members overseas, and if I could give these locks a 0-star rating, I absolutely would. Let me start with the biggest issue: **the batteries die ridiculously fast.** I'm not exaggerating. At this point, I think we've spent more money on batteries than the locks themselves. One lock was draining brand-new batteries every week. Another was dying every few days. What's even crazier is that one of the locks barely gets used and was still eating through batteries like it was its full-time job. We've tried Amazon Basics, Energizer, Duracell, and several other battery brands. Same result every single time. Then there's the app. An update happened, and suddenly some of the codes that were previously visible were no longer showing. Now certain features require Bluetooth access, which is a huge inconvenience when you're trying to manage locks remotely from another country. Now let's talk about customer service. I first reached out through email and responded multiple times. Nothing. No meaningful follow-up. No resolution. Eventually, I called customer service and honestly, that experience was just as disappointing as the locks themselves. I explained that these locks are installed internationally, so I couldn't physically stand at the door and troubleshoot with him on the phone. We had already done everything imaginable: * Removed and reinstalled the locks * Reprogrammed the locks * Updated Wi-Fi settings * Changed batteries countless times * Tested multiple battery brands * Updated everything we could update Yet the issue continued. The representative acted like none of that mattered and was incredibly dismissive. After spending well over $600 on four locks, I asked about a replacement or refund because clearly something wasn't right. The answer was we are not going to send no new locks because the company spends money. I was looking at the phone like I didn't know he owned the company and was paying for it. I asked to replace not keep. Installation wasn't exactly a walk in the park either. It was more complicated than expected and required additional setup before you could even start using it. Also, for the price, there's no fingerprint recognition feature? At this point, that's becoming a standard feature on many smart locks. Overall, these locks have been one giant headache. The battery life is awful, the app has become more frustrating over time, and customer service was no help whatsoever. I genuinely would not recommend these locks to family, friends, neighbors, or anyone asking for a smart lock recommendation. If I could go back, I would have spent my money on a different brand entirely.

I am giving this five stars right now where it could also be four stars. So the install is very easy. If you never replaced locks on a door the instructions they give is straight forward. The set-up once they are installed is also very simple and straight forward. I have had these installed for about two weeks. After the first five days when I went to unlock them with the app, it showed them as not connected to the internet. I tried to soft restart them by removing the battery but they never reconnected. I ended up fully factory resetting them and they reconnected and as of now they have been good. Now I do use a mesh wifi and instructions say they need a 2.4 GHz connection. I have other products that say the same and haven't had any issues with connection, so I hope this was a one time thing. If it happens again, I will create a 2.4 GHz only one and see how that goes. But with all that being said, the physical buttons work fine and the Google home integration works fine too. You need to set a pin for Google to unlock them. But you don't with the app. Speaking of the app, it's not bad but does seem to hangup quite a bit. I wondered if the connection issue I had was a problem caused by the app. I have used the app to try and unlock them but sometimes it doesn't work. When I use Google home to it will work. So again, I think it's the app that just sometimes doesn't work. But it is easy to use, to set up pins and users. I do wish there was a notification option on the app to select what type of notifications to receive. If you have the notifications on from your phone settings you will get a ton for every time the door locks or unlock. I wish you could limit those. I would only want notifications for my battery life or lost of connection. Something that I didn't find in the guide but stumbled on it myself is turning on the backlit for the keypad. In the app setting there is a option to turn the keypad sound off, by doing so you turn the backlight on. So if you have the sound on, there is no backlight. But if you have the sound off, you get backlight. I prefer the backlit option for when it's dark out. I will mention the backlights only come on when you press a button and doesn't stay on. Also these do come with a key and it's easy to rekey a existing one. Unfortunately my keys were to thick to work but I bought two of these for my front and back door, and re-keyed one do them to work for both doors. I will be sure keep this updated to see if there are any more connection issues and how the battery holds up. But I do really likes these and it's nice to have different options to unlock them. Update 8/24 Quick update regarding these locks. I know battery life was estimated at 4-6 months depending on use. I have had both locks with the original batteries over two months and had to replace them already. Now the battery life was at 40% and it would show jammed when closing or opening. I switched out the batteries and that went away. I will see how the new batteries hold up. Otherwise, I still haven't had any connectivity issues since that one time. I have run into a couple of times where I punch my code in, and nothing happens. I punch it in again then it works. But this has been rare. I will continue to update these as time goes on. Update 12/25 Now having this for a bit and removing the cover to replace the batteries, the cover broke. I reached out to their customer service to see if I could order another one. They didn't sell them at the time but went ahead and sent me a replacement. They don't just send the plastic cover but the whole back metal piece. Seems like a waste but was cool that I got a replacement. I recently switched to lithium batteries and have noticed a huge improvement in battery life. Highly recommend those. I still get the rare occurrence where I press the pin button but they don't do anything. Still need to hit the lock button then press the pin and it works. I am removing a star. I still think it's a good product and would recommend it still.

Great product. The best packaging and installation combo instructions I’ve ever seen! Very nice and easy. Love the lock and app and ability to remotely lock and unlock using WiFi. So far battery life has been good. Nice notifications if desired as well. Only complaint was that this halo version has auto lock but no sensor on door to know it’s closed - so when set to auto lock and door is left open, it will still auto lock and then the door damages the wall when closed. I called customer service and they said this version doesn’t have the sensor. Evidently some halo products have that sensor. Other me than that, I love the product and that it can be rekeyed easily to prior Kwikset key.

I have a condo and I wanted a smart lock for the added security of giving access to the building management in case of emergency if I was at work or out of town. Additionally, with the programable codes, I can give access to my children for the same reason. the lock was easy to install with the assistance of the online guide and fit exactly where the previous lock was. This model was has several features I find handy- 2-keys, auto-lock and unlock, clearly marked key pad buttons. Lock felt solid and well-engineered for the price less than some other more expensive with similar features.

I've used Kwikset "smart" deadbolts in several homes, and have had generally good experiences. Those other locks, though, were Z-Wave devices, not WiFi. I needed to install a smart deadbolt in a home that didn't have a Z-Wave controller, so I decided to give this WiFi connected lock a try. The lock construction was similar to other Kwikset deadbolts. It's fine. It won't stop a determined intruder, but it's solidly built, looks good, and will work for about 99.9% of residential needs, mine included. Installation was easy, but I've installed dozens of deadbolts, so I only briefly referenced the instructions, and then did the install. One improvement that Kwikset has made to these devices is that the battery compartment is now accessible without removing the entire interior facia. That's a significant improvement over previous models, which require me to go get a set of Allen keys to change the batteries. So here's where things get stupid. I installed the lock, and then installed Kwikset's app. Z-Wave locks don't require an app, but this is different. I get that. Anyway, app installed, and away I go. First, I had to create an account including a bunch of personal info, like my address and phone number. Then I had to register my cell phone and assign it to the account. I don't like any of that, but it's not a deal breaker. Then, I finally got to the part where I connect and configure my new lock. My phone connected to the lock via Bluetooth, and I was asked to configure my WiFi settings. I did this, and after a few minutes of thinking, was told that my lock couldn't connect to my home WiFi, because the password was TOO LONG. So install a "security" device from a "security" company, I'd have to degrade my home network security. For the record, my WiFi password is 44 characters long. In addition to this stupid requirement, I'd already connected nearly a dozen devices to my network (with no issues) so changing my WiFi password was not really a useful option. I'm an IT guy by trade, so I came up with a workaround. Since the lock really only needed connectivity to the Internet, I grabbed an old, unused WiFi extender, and set it up to host a 2.4 GHz network just to host this device. I gave it a short-enough password, set it up to only provide Internet (not access to the rest of my network), and hid the SSID. That allowed me to connect the device, and control it remotely. The lock itself works fine, and the app isn't completely awful, but it does have one glaring issue. My other Kwikset smart locks (which are controlled by my Z-Wave controllers) are configured to automatically lock at a specific time, and to send me a text when someone uses the keypad to unlock the door. That means I get a text when a family member gets home and unlocks the door, and that's about it. With the app, I can get a notification when the door locks or unlocks, but I can't customize that at all. So, I get a message EVERY time the door is locked or unlocked by any means. If somebody's at my house and they take the dog outside, I get an alert when they manually unlock the door, and another one ten minutes later when they come back inside and manually lock the door. I cannot stop alerts for manual interactions, or for "lock" events. This results in me getting a lot more notification from this lock, due to a lack of what seems to be very simple notification modification. Through some other network shenanigans, I was able to make Alexa integration work. It's nothing special. By default, Alexa won't unlock this lock, which is fine. All she can really do is tell you the status, or lock the door. The lock can be included in Alexa routines, which is nice. All in all, this device doesn't work as well as previous devices, and it is absolutely unacceptable that a consumer device would require a "short" WiFi password. If I hadn't had extra networking gear, and a bunch of experience handy, I would not have made this work. I'm not sure what a "normal" homeowner is supposed to do.
