I recently purchased the Kwikset 991 Tustin Entry Lever and Single Cylinder Deadbolt Combo Pack featuring SmartKey, and I’m really impressed with the quality of this set! The installation was straightforward, and I appreciate how secure and sturdy the lock feels. The SmartKey feature is fantastic for easily rekeying the lock whenever I need to, which adds an extra layer of convenience. The only issue I ran into was that the colors didn’t match the rest of my hardware as I had mistakenly chosen the wrong finish. This is completely on me, and I still think the set looks great!     • Sturdy, good quality, great value and easy to put on.

Great set of locks for the money. They replaced the exact set of locks that the keys were all lost. The old set had worked for 12 years without any problems so I knew they were a sturdy set. When I took them off I had to label them because the finish was not scratched and I could not tell the old from the new ones unless I looked at the inner part that had grease on it. It took less than 5 minutes to take the 4 screws out and put the new locks on. I did not have to change the other hardware since it was an exact replacement. I will now try to rekey the old set but don’t want to use the Kwikset Cradle which allows you to hold the cylinder and rekey without the key. It cost $37 on Amazon which is about $17 less than buying the new lock set. So why try and reset the cylinders when you can get everything new for about $54. I would recommend buying this dead bolt lock set. PS: I will be buying a set of 6 pre cut keys on Amazon for about $15 which is cheaper then going to you local big box store and having them made. ... show more

Excellent lock set! Looks great, feels great, operates smoothly, appears to be very secure, and was easy to install. Got this to replace an old front door spring bolt handle set where the key has been catching for years. 99% of the effort was removing the old hardware, repairing the door, and drilling new deadbolt holes. The lock set comes with templates and instructions that are fairly clear and easy to follow. If I were to criticize one aspect, it's that I'm not a fan of how the handle is affixed to the body. It requires this super tiny hex wrench to disengage the handle from the body. So it's a specialized tool which one may be prone to losing or if you inherit this lock and don't have this tool it'll be a pain to replace without it. It hides the screws so aesthetically it's nicer, but the tiny mechanism tends to feel just a tad less solid. The deadbolt has visible screws/bolts so that's a little inconsistent. None of that is enough to detract from the rating of the product. Overall very happy with this. I have a back door lock that I might update soon and I'd gladly buy this set again. ... show more

I purchased these as part of a complete replacement of the 25 year old brass hardware in my house. Install is quick and easy. The levers are reversible. They weigh about 20% less than the old units I pulled off, but they feel sturdy enough They look great, and work smooth. I don't know if they'll hold up for another 25 years. The SmartKey feature is really nice. I have that on some rental property and rekeying takes only a few minutes. The advantage here was that I ordered three units, and didn't have to worry about them being keyed alike. In fact, I got three random key patterns, all usable with the SmartKey system, saving even more money, and making my life simpler. Oh, and they are supposed to be "bumping" resistant. Great lock system. My husband and I are remodeling our home and the search for locking systems seemed endless - who knew it would be some difficult to agree on a lock!?!? Any way....we went back and forth between several different brands (Schlage, Kwikset, Yale, Brinks, etc...) and ultimately decided on the Kwikset. Our decision was based on the style, durability (we really put these things to the test at the store), ease of use (was the handle comfortable, did the keys work easily, did duplicates work easily, etc), availability (at stores/online and the parts for changing over interior and exterior doors), and finish type. There are a lot of comparable lock sets out there, but this felt and acted much more heavy duty than the others we liked in this style. It was between this set and a similar Schlage set. This set won for 2 reasons - (1) we liked the handles better, on the doors and the front door set and (2) the SmartKey system. We have 4 exterior doors to our home, so we thought the SmartKey would be ideal. System works great, easy to use handle, and the door closes snug every time. Tips about this set - our first install was on a basement door. We replaced an original wooden door with a new fiberglass door. Love the entire set up and the new lock set looked great, but the handle was absolutely freezing to the touch. We ended up taking the lock set off and cutting a piece of foam insulation to fit behind. Problem solved! It didn't impact the usage of the lock or handle and cut down on the cold handle/cold air leaking through. ... show more
