Description

The Smart Code touchpad smart lock with Home Connect technology enables the lock to wirelessly communicate with other devices in home. The lock allows the user (through a third party smart home controller) to remotely check the door lock status, lock or unlock the door and receive notifications via email or text. Smart Code is a one touch locking motorized deadbolt. With your personalized code, you can enter your home with the convenience of keyless entry and the back lit keypad provides increased visibility. Smart Code is easy to install, program and use, and operates on 4 AA batteries. It also features Smart Key Security as the backup keyway. I bought this item for my security system since it is wireless. I was able to set it up very easily and it works great. My only complaint is that it's super loud. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone that has a Z Wave system or wireless security system that will control your door lock.

Easy installation and integration w ring alarm system is great. Looks nice as well Only think I don’t like about it is that the battery powered unlocking and locking (vs manual) is surprisingly loud.

Summary: 1) Needs a compatible hub, see list below 2) Your interior thumb shaft may not light up correctly, just cosmetic problem, doesn’t affect functionality. And if your savvy you can take apart the lock with a few small Phillips screws and fix it yourself. It’s a cool lock. Just for clarification, when the description said that you can connect the lock to your phone with a third party controller I assumed you could use Alexa or google home...not the case. I reached out to kwiksets support form online about connecting it to my phone and here was their reply: “Your Smartcode 888 unit requires a third-party HUB to be able to work remotely, depending on the HUB you get you will download their app, we have listed a few Z-Wave HUBs you can use down below. Z-Wave HUBs: 1. SmartThings by Samsung 2. Honeywell 3. Wink 4. ADT alarm 5. Ring Alarm 6. Vera “ A bad note: I have replaced all the door hardware in my house before and this was no different EXCEPT the turn piece shaft that the interior thumb knob connects to was positioned upside down and wouldn’t line up (other people had the same issue it seems). I think it is really just a cosmetic thing because you can install it with the internal knob upside down it will just look a little funny. I could have returned and had it replaced but I just decided to take the cover piece off, the motherboard snaps on and off with clips and I think there was one more cover to get to the motor, I rotated it to the correct position and reinstalled everything and now now the interior knob is rotated correctly. I haven’t bought a hub yet, without being able to lock and unlock remotely, I decided to created 5 random codes that are active in addition to my code. if anyone needs to get in my house I’ll Text them an active code to get in and I will delete the code when I get home and create a new one to replace it.     • Great lock, some technical and mechanical difficulties though.
We ordered three of these locks to install on a vacation rental property with the intention of connecting them to our Ring system. Ultimately, we are now able to control and monitor lock activity from our phones (huge plus!) but that was only after a few hours of trouble shooting. Unfortunately, 2 of the 3 locks were factory set for the 'opposite side' and the instructions do not provide adequate information about changing the direction of the mechanical rotation. In other words, my husband had to do some digging to determine how to reconfigure the locks so that we could install them with the keypad facing the exterior of the door and the lock itself actually rotating toward the door frame (as opposed to the interior of the door). This process was lengthy and frustrating and certainly not anticipated on a short time frame for installation. To add to the frustration, we discovered that one of the locks arrived with a disconnected internal wire and the lock itself would not engage or move. Thanks to YouTube, we were finally able to resolve the issues. For anyone purchasing to use with a Ring system, we did have to move our base and extender around a bit so that all 3 locks were within communicable distance (which was MUCH shorter than we expected), but by the end of the day, we got them working. We are able to create unique codes and can determine which codes open certain doors. This comes in handy when our renters are only authorized to access certain areas within our home. I appreciate that we can monitor activity, battery level and jams from our phone - gives us peace of mind and allows for contactless entry of guests, cleaners, and maintenance. I do recommend this product and would purchase again, but I caution any consumer to be patient and expect potential setbacks as you go about installation and connection to a smart system. ... show more

    • Works Great but Choose Carefully
I got two of these when I installed my new Ring alarm system. They integrate with the system perfectly so I can lock the doors from my phone app or Amazon Echo, and when unlocks the door, I can have them disarm the system at the same time so there's no fumbling around trying to input the same code twice with your arms filled with groceries. My only complaint is that sometimes the buttons get stuck after pressing them. It's easy to get them unstuck but when it happens you usually have to start over and enter your code again. A bit of advice: There are tons of these kinds of smart locks on the market. Obviously, you want one that works with your alarm system but if you have a system like Ring, then there are lots of models to choose from. Check with your local locksmith or whoever you plan to install and servicr the lock on the kinds of models they know and prefer before making your choice. I picked this one because I had a Kwikset smart lock before and it worked really well. But my locksmith wasn't really familar with Kwikset and actually had some trouble installing it. He prefers another brand which would have worked with my system as well and would have been easier for him to install and service later if there were issues.
