I got this because of the feature that it can be used with SmartThings. I can add door codes for contractors, friends and guests from wherever I am. It was easy to install and works very reliably. It took a little time to figure out how to add the automation feature in SmartThings, but once I realized how it worked, it was easy to set up and easy to use. I love that it has a battery indicator so that I know when the batteries need to be replaced. It comes with good quality hardware too. I also love that I can double check to make sure my doors are locked from wherever I am. Did I forget to lock the door? No problem. I can lock it from work if I want to. When I have guests staying with me, I don't have to give them a key. I can ask them what code they want to use. Then I can delete them after they leave if I want to, and they can't just come and go in the future. You also can monitor what time people arrived by their use of their code. I know I sound like a salesman, but I really love these locks. I installed 6 of them in my home! ... show more

    • Great Lock, Easy to Install. A little loud when it auto locks
This is a great lock and works well with the ring security system. You have to have the ring security system, not just the doorbell to get this to work. This was easy to install and very easy to add to my ring security system by following the on screen directions. Rekeying the lock to my personal key was simple and takes 5 seconds to do. You can lock/unlock using your ring app. You can also connect it to Alexa and have it unlock/lock using that, although you do have to give it a code through alexa or it won't work. You can also set it up to do automation(automatically disarm your alarm system when you unlock the lock), which is a feature we decided not to use and you can use Alexa routines with this lock as well. The only negative I have about this lock is that it is pretty loud when it automatically locks on it's own. Loud enough where you can hear it a couple rooms away. Not a big deal, but that was something I wasn't anticipating. Not a big enough issue to hurt the review, still giving this 5 stars. ... show more

    • Quick and easy installation if you're used to installing your own locks
In my house I currently have a Wink 2 hub and I have a combination of Nest, Z-Wave switches, My Q Garage Door and the next thing on the list was a to get a Z-Wave deadbolt for the front door. I didn't just want a regular Z-Wave deadbolt, I wanted one with an external keypad so I can program it for our dog sitter, mother-in-law and neighbors when they watch my house and/or dogs. So I looked at all of the Kwikset Z-Wave locks and made up my mind to buy the touchscreen model however upon reading more reviews and playing with it at a local hardware store, I decided that I wanted physical buttons. So I choose this model. The until came in double boxed with all of the pieces and although I read the reviews about long install time, trouble pairing with home automation hubs, I had it installed and was locking and unlocking the door with my phone through the Wink app within 15 minutes. I was VERY pleased. Re-Keying it to my existing Kwikset Tustin locks took me an additional 5 minutes later that evening. Looking to buy another for our backdoor as well as for the door that leads to the garage. So very pleased with the purchase. 5/23/2023: Bought one for the front door in 2018 and one for the backdoor in 2020 and the one from 2020 bit the dust. It would still work, but something in the gears was making it not turn the bolt anymore. Bought the new one, installed it and no issues. 3 years isn't terrible but do wish it worked longer but the back door is used more since the dogs go in and out the back yard. I did turn off the autolock and have my Hubitat relock every 15 minutes. ... show more

    • Works Great but Choose Carefully
I got two of these when I installed my new Ring alarm system. They integrate with the system perfectly so I can lock the doors from my phone app or Amazon Echo, and when unlocks the door, I can have them disarm the system at the same time so there's no fumbling around trying to input the same code twice with your arms filled with groceries. My only complaint is that sometimes the buttons get stuck after pressing them. It's easy to get them unstuck but when it happens you usually have to start over and enter your code again. A bit of advice: There are tons of these kinds of smart locks on the market. Obviously, you want one that works with your alarm system but if you have a system like Ring, then there are lots of models to choose from. Check with your local locksmith or whoever you plan to install and servicr the lock on the kinds of models they know and prefer before making your choice. I picked this one because I had a Kwikset smart lock before and it worked really well. But my locksmith wasn't really familar with Kwikset and actually had some trouble installing it. He prefers another brand which would have worked with my system as well and would have been easier for him to install and service later if there were issues.     • Good but check all the parts before installing.

I installed 3 of these in a new house after having installed 3 others in another house. The install is pretty easy BUT, make sure you didn't get a defective unit. Specifically, when you get it, check all the parts, carefully, before beginning your install. The thumblatch (interior knob) must be lined up correctly with the triangle on the inside of the cover facing up (see picture). If it is not, the knob won't line up with the locking latch. The lock cannot be installed if this isn't aligned correctly. You don't want to discover this AFTER you are more than halfway through your install. 2 out of 3 locks had this issue but a quick return and replacement by Amazon solved the problem. Functionally, the lock is great and we have it tied into our Smart Things hub in both houses. Batteries last a good amount of time (6+ months) with constant use and we change ours when we set the clocks for DST and change out our smoke detector batteries. Also, these can easily be rekeyed so that they are all keyed alike to match any other locks you might have. ... show more

    • Awesome customer service and product
I purchased the product mainly because of the number pad so that my son and daughter can enter house after school without needing to keep keys. The product arrived in good condition and I started assembling on the door - I was able to finish it in 20 minute. However after assembling the lock didn't work so unassembled and examined carefully and found a pin on the male connector is broken - most likely I pushed on wrong orientation during assembly. Only manually locking and unlocking was working. I send a email detailing this to kwikset with photo and then called the customer care expecting 30 min wait time. Unlike other companies, I got to speak to a human with in a minute(yes a minute), she asked me my case details and asked me to send me a proof of purchase or product photo, I send both over email. That is it, the rep said since the product is under warranty, they will send a replacement and I can keep the lock on the door until the replacement arrives which is in 10 days. That is all with in 5 minutes. I received a brand new lock in 5 days and it works good. I have been using it for 2 weeks and no problem so far and serves my purpose. (I have not used the zwave feature yet) Would recommend for a friend. ... show more
