I read some mixed reviews on this product that had me nervous about my purchase originally, but I experienced only positive results. I bought this for my parents house. They come and go a lot, and us kids stop by, etc. and I thought it would be a fun gift they would never think to buy but would love. I bought the product and it came 2 days later via Prime. The reviews I read were all pretty positive about the quality of the unit but were VERY mixed when it came to installation and programming. Some left paragraphs on how hard both were and you should set aside 3-hours to complete, and then other reviews were basically "Great! Super easy install." So I had no idea if I would be able to figure this out, I'm not super handy—I'm tech savvy so I figured I could get the programming done easy but the install I wasn't so sure about. But you know what? I'm in the "super easy install" group! —Hardware Installation— I installed this bad boy in roughly 30 minutes (I used a drill to screw and unscrew, so maybe add time if you're doing that by hand) and this wasn't a new door that had now deadbolt hole or anything. I was replacing a traditional deadbolt, basically unscrew everything from the old deadbolt, and then follow the directions to install this one. I knew taking the old one out would be easy, but installing the new one I wasn't so sure about. The directions admittedly weren't the greatest, but if you follow the steps (looking at the pictures as reference) and think about what you're doing it's pretty basic. Again, it took me under 30 minutes to install and I was talking to my parents about something while doing it. —Programming— Now this part was easy to me. At first it's not obvious how it works, but after looking at the directions I realized it's VERY easy to program. Simply follow the steps in the programming guide. It's basically your programming code followed by "kwikset button" followed by the number associated with the task you want to perform, then "kwikset button" to start the task (i.e add an unlock code, change auto-lock time, etc.) —After a few days— My parents love it. They thought it was cool to begin with but after a week of use they find it to be super convenient and useful. The only thing I with it had was a separate button to illuminate the keys at night. If you press 'Kwikset' they turn on for .3 seconds and if you press a random number you have to then press 'Kwikset' to cancel out what your typing to start the actual code. Basically if it's really dark you need to know where the first button is in your unlock code number so it illuminates, then you can see the rest. Otherwise it's great. For the price this product is amazing. Super nice build quality and works as it says.

I hate trying to get my house key into the key hole in the dark. (It's a daunting task even for a Jedi Knight.) I decided I needed a different lock for my house, but I didn't want to buy one of those fussy, expensive Bluetooth contraptions where instead of fumbling in the rain for your key you're juggling with your phone to open a special app. That's why I went with this Kwikset electronic deadbolt instead. (I once rented a house with a similar keypad lock It features a full 10-key lighted keypad and you can also open it with a regular key. Kwikset is a leading manufacturer of locking hardware and the quality shows in this product. This lock has an attractive nickle finish and seems plenty sturdy. The instructions were straightforward and simple, making installation a snap. The hardware accommodates both edge-chiseled door mounts and those where a drive-in collar is needed. (I had the most problem getting the old lock out because of that). I've been using it for a week and it works very well. PROS: 1. Easy installation. Instructions are easy with clear pictures and a troubleshooting section. Uses 4 AA batteries (not included) 2. You don't have to worry about your lock being on the Internet or hooked to your WIFI. 3. You can set the door to automatically re-lock after 10 to 99 seconds. (default is 30 seconds if enabled). 4. Everything is programmable from the keypad, no need to push little buttons or move jumpers around. (Be sure to change the default programming code!) 5. You can add up to 6 permanent user codes and even set up a 1-time-use temporary code. Of course you can selectively delete/change them at any time. CONS: 1. You don't have the hassle of an on-line type smart lock, but you don't get the benefits of that either - for example being notified when your lock is used or knowing who accessed it last. UPDATE 04/24/18 - After several months of constant use the lock still works well and no battery change required yet.

I have been using Schlage electronic deadbolts for years and really like them but for the price of this unit being about a third of what one of those would cost, I figured I would take a chance. I actually like this product, I don’t really have any issues or faults with it. I know that some people complain about potential battery life however, I don’t use my front door that often it’s primarily installed as an option for my kids to easily get in and out of the house That said, I was slightly hesitant, because other models advertise that the deadbolt has an autolock feature and I didn’t see that listed for this particular product. However, after looking through the documents, I discovered that that feature is available on this model, and just has to be enabled through a simple code — It is just disabled by default. You can also specify the duration before autolock engages I think at 5, 10, 15, and 30 second intervals. I’m pleased with the purchase and think it’s a pretty decent product It was also easy to install and set up.

I've installed five different models of kwickset keyless locks. This one was the worst. This one is also the cheapest, which makes me think they cut corners. The others I've installed were very easy. They had good instructions and were straight forward. The main issue with this one is the actual lock. You might be able to get one screw into it with no problems, but then it has the tendency to spin. Lining it up for the second screw and be very frustrating. The other ones I've installed held the lock in place, making it much easier to install. The other truly bizarre thing about the install, is where they have you grab a pair of pliers and snap off who metal tabs, that don't want to snap off. For the life of me I can't figure out why they have you do this, or why it doesn't come done already. Once you have it installed, it's a pretty good lock. I find that the push buttons are much more reliable than the touch screen versions. The other big benefit of this one, is that it's not BT or have Wifi. You might want that, but it murders the battery life. BT isn't too bad, but the wifi models burn through batteries like popcorn. This is much cheaper than the more advanced models, and it has much better battery life. That makes it a really good value.

I've considered getting an electric lock for a while and each time I researched them, the prices eventually turned me off. I found this one and couldn't be happier with it. If you are looking for a basic, no-nonsense electric lock, stop looking and buy this one. It looks attractive - it's simple, clean, and functional. The numbers light up blue (and there is 10 numbers, not the weird 5 like some others). It works well - the programming is a little weird, but if you read the directions it's simple. I turned on the automatic locking, so it locks 30 seconds after it's been unlocked. The function is easy - punch in the code and push the Kwikset button and the motor opens the deadbolt. Another style I've seen you have to punch in the code and then twist a knob, but not too far or in the wrong direction. This functionality is much better. After just a few days, it already makes entering and leaving the house so much easier I don't know why I didn't do this a long time ago. Yes, it would be cool to have it networked and unlock/lock remotely or from your phone, but really that's the only negative for me. And adding that connectivity typically doubles or more the price for this one.

I liked that this product allowed for different hole sizes. This allowed me to install the latch on an existing door without having to re-size the hole. However, there is a step in the instructions that I have pictured above which say to "use pliers" to remove the two tabs from the mounting plate. I installed 4 of these door latches and there was *no way* those tabs were just going to remove with a set of pliers. (I tried 3 different kinds of pliers, including needle nose, locking pliers and adjustable pliers.) The metal is made of thickened brass or steel and, while there was a "score" in the metal, it did not bend or flex. I finally used a hammer and just flattened the tabs in question so it wouldn't interfere with the rest of the installation. Besides this one minor "glitch" in the installation, the lock installed with ease and looks great. Programming is very easy (I was a little worried because it seemed some users had difficulty with the programming). I like the fact that it can auto-lock if I choose. I can't speak to battery life as I have only had this installed for about a month. This replaced a combination door lock that was not automatic. The only other comment I have is that when unlocking, the user needs to enter the code somewhat slowly (slower than my previous combination lock by Schlage). My son kept entering the code, but did it too fast, so the door wouldn't unlock. I'll have to make sure to tell visitors to whom I give the code to enter it slowly I was so happy with this lock, I convinced my sister to buy 2 for her house (hence the previous comment about installing 4 of these)

Just installed this, so I can't comment on durability yet, but will try and update after a few months. In the meantime: PROS: - Super easy to install. I had read all the reviews of people complaining but either Kwikset re-did the instructions or those people are complete boneheads. Or perhaps they got a bad unit. All I can say is that my experience with installation was fast (20 mins, including removal of old lock), and the instructions were crystal clear. Two things that may have contributed to this ease: My previous simple deadbolt was also Kwikset brand, and my door is pretty well made with good cutouts and evenly hung. - Operates surprisingly smoothly. Deadbolt travels easily and accurately. - Seems to work fine being operated by keypad, keys, and manually turning the handle from inside house. This flexibility is important, and if it changes I will drop my 5 star rating all the way down. CONS: - Doesn't seem super well sealed against the elements. I'd be hesitant to put this on an exterior door without a screen door to protect it from rain and snow. - Badly finished. Just my unit probably, but as you can see from the photo, the top of the battery cover has blemishes in the surface.

Likes: It works to lock the doors and I can easily program multiple temporary codes for contractors to be able to get into my home and do work. The autolock feature works great, I have it set for 20s and I always remember to close the door within that time frame. I have not had battery issues like other reviewers it could be because I use eneloop rechargeable batteries and they last months. Then again there has been a pandemic and going in and out from the house is reduced so maybe that’s why the batteries are lasting, who knows. Dislike: This thing has probably not being QA tested in cold weather. I live in Northern Virginia and everytime its gets really cold outside the buttons refuse to work. I have to press and hold the buttons as hard as I can to get them to register. This takes several tries until the lock warms up a little I can finally get the code in and the door opens. I have been coping with this for couple of weeks but yesterday was the height of it. It took eight minutes before I could finally get in to the house. I looked like I was trying to break into my own house 😅. The auto lock feature though great doesn’t work well if you have visitors who don’t know and hold the door open too long. The lock engages and then you have the lock jamming or hitting the frame. There needs to be a sensor to detect the door is actually closed before the lock engages. Kwikset if you are listening that’s a feature you need to add. That’s it am done with the lock and I will do my due diligence to find something that will operate reliably in different temperatures. My advice unless you need something cheap and live in a warm climate all year round, don’t buy this!!
