Zigbee is awesome!
Color: Venetian Bronze
Size: (Pack of 1)
Pattern Name: Contemporary
Zigbee and Z-wave are the way to go with home automation. They can be locally controlled by the hub, so the internet isn’t a weak link. And, they use less power to communicate which is especially great for battery powered devices. They’re both a better option than bandwidth and energy hogging WiFi in my opinion and of the two I’ve had better range performance with Zigbee. If you want a lock that not only opens with a code, but is great for remote operation and as part of home automations, this is a great and reliable choice. And of course the kwikset system lets you key it to match your other locks. (In case it’s of interest to home automation folks; I use the Smartthings hub and have a veritable constellation of Zigbee and zwave devices working together.)

Looks nice, comes with qwirks on the installation
Color: Satin Nickel
Size: (Pack of 1)
Pattern Name: Contemporary
This was a toss up between 3 and 4 stars for this lock. I ultimately went with 3 because there's a known issue that the locking mechanisim is installed from the factory improperly and the only way to fix it, is to go into where the circuit card is housed and to move it around so it fits properly. Also, it's not in the instructions but it seems these locks assume they're installed on the right side when looking at the door from in the house. Mine is on the left, and therefore wouldn't lock remotely until I did some more google searching to figure out if the lock could be programmed for a left hand side configuration. There is a way, but what should have taken less than an hour to install, took more time than I care to admit to install. We were going out of town and our previous Kwikset did not have the Zigbee functionality to link up with our Xfinity security system which is why I even bought this lock in the first place. Now that I've gotten it all figured out and programmed up, it works just as intended, but the installation was frustrating.

Don't trust the Z-wave connection
Color: Venetian Bronze
Size: (Pack of 1)
Pattern Name: Contemporary
I purchased 4 Kwikset 914 deadbolts. I have been wildly unsuccessful at getting any of them connected to my Qolsys alarm panel. The units do not behave as indicated in the documentation and support options are limited to non-existent. The root of the issue seems to be that the units will not enter pairing mode. This is not my first time working with Z-wave devices, nor connecting then to panels. I've been successfully using the devices for over 10 years. I'm well aware of the interference and distance conversations and am skilled in ruling out these issues. I'm out $500 bucks on this endeavor. Hopefully, either Amazon, the seller, or the manufacturer will make things right.

Color: Satin Nickel

My only complaint is that the battery pack connections seem to lose conductivity after a while. I’d file them clean if I could but they’re pretty out of reach. Also, Google around for solutions to other problems. The instructions/manual doesn’t have everything.
