I did a couple mods that seem to negate a lot of other people’s concerns in the comments. I was a bit surprised when I discovered the two rods in the middle that run the length of the carrier are not physically connected. The manufacturer provides plastic caps to seal up the tubes. I didn’t take a before picture to show the gap but the last photo shows everything put together after the mods. First thing, go to Home Depot and buy a 7/16” steel rod. Cut four 4” sections. This are going to be used to add stability to the middle section where the two rods that run lengthwise meet the end sections. Insert the 4” rod section in the middle section tubes and you will have solved this problem. They will slide right into the matching tubes on the end section. Secondly, wrap all joints with some type of duct tape or electricians tape. This will prevent water from getting in these joints and causing rust. I am adding a few pictures of these joints (before and after) for clarity.

First review - It's OK. I think it's gonna do the job, looks strong, but parts little bit hard to put together, sharp edges and easy to scratch. Quality is not the best, so don't have big expectations. I didn't use extentions (don't need it so big/long). Edit: obviously not good at all! Only a month after installation on the roof and it's already rusty and dripping on a roof and makes rusty spots! Horrible will say!

Pros: >Fits well with my highlander 2015. >Bought it because it is modular. Removed 1 cross bar so the panoramic roof wont be covered when im not using the cargo basket. (cross bar is easy to attach compared to removing the whole basket). >I like the design. cons: >Wind fairing cause noise and vibration when running 45+mph. (Needs bar support to the buttom part of the fairing to make it sturdy and not flap. >Washers easily gets rusty. Had the basket for 2 days and I can see small rust already. Overall for the price, It is worth it. Just needs some upgrades and rust proofing to make it better.

I purchased this cargo carrier a few months ago to avoid putting my luggage carrier directly onto the sunroof of my car. It’s not difficult to put together but definitely goes faster with two people working on it. It’s critical that you measure your car first though because I installed this with the middle expander piece and then ended up having to remove it. I used this to transport luggage for a family of four twice during the holidays and it works great. It eliminated the annoying sound of the clips from my soft-sided carrier hitting the car and also made things seem more secure overall. It does make a bit of noise but I’ve gotten used to it over the last few months. I leave it on the car daily and haven’t noticed any considerable impact to my gas mileage.

The paint it has it’s horrible a year in and it’s all rusted from rain I will have to sand it prime it and re paint it not to mention water gets trapped in it then falls on the paint and pitted my roof on my car
