Update: After a sunny day, a 2.3 kilowatt solar charge seems to have corrected the issues. The inverter stayed on through the night. The refrigerator is ice cold. I cooked dinner with a 350 watt rice cooker. Maybe it's the lighted SJTW 12/3 extension cord? I think the inverter has a sensitive GFI circuit. It was during a rainstorm that it tripped occasionally. Add the accessory kit and it's like getting an 1.1 kW inverter for $40! The remote switch is handy too. I keep it by my bedside in case the GFI trips. Advice to new buyers: Use with a 3-stage charger like PWM or MPPT at 15.3 volts absorb. This should break in the GFI circuit or whatever from shutting off. It likes a full 2-hour absorption charge at 15.3 volts. -------------------------------- ** Intermittent use only As other reviewers wrote, my unit 1) turns itself off 2) overloads for no reason. This happens far below 1,100 watts. Note I tested a 1,050 watt shop vacuum. It ran perfectly. However, running long-term lights at 100 watts trips the overload / reset. This is fine for intermittent use. It's not useable for an RV or tiny home. And I have a professional MPPT solar system with a 400 Ah battery bank and 530 watts of solar panel. User error is not plausible. As much as I like the battery cable kit, I may have no choice but to return it. The battery cables are worth $30. The fuse box is worth at least $15. And the remote comes with a data phone cable. So one way to look at the situation is I got a cheap inverter for under $40. And frankly it could be the appliance. I bought this to power a 150 watt rated mini refrigerator. It runs fine. It makes ice sometimes for six hours. Then the inverter trips overload / resets. The meter reads 600 watts when the refrigerator starts. And it regularly cycles on/off for hours. The unit was mounted horizontal under my floor immediately. It never got wet. It never blew a fuse. The wiring is solid. I followed instructions. And it powered a 1,050 watt vacuum without alarm. I'm really perplexed. As much as I want to return it, I'll need battery cables with fuse protection for my replacement. The unit does provide 1,099 watts of intermittent power. Size: 1100 Watt Modified Sine
I just got this today so I might discover issues later but for the moment I think this is a great buy to provide a little, and I emphasize little, power. The issue is not the inverter, it is the battery (or car alternator). My main usage will be with my trolling motor battery from my boat. It is a class 27 rated at 100 amp hours. I got the 1100W inverter because it will use about 100 amps from the battery at full load. My big battery with full charge when new will only do that for an hour. A bigger inverter could power more "stuff" but not for very long unless I spend a bunch of money on a big battery bank. Car alternators do not go much over 100A either, many are smaller. So I don't see the point in a bigger inverter. Maybe for other people's applications. The reason I like this is it has the features I think are important and it works. I bought a different brand and it beeped at me even though the battery voltage was within it's spec. This one doesn't. This one also has voltage display or, alternately, Watts out. I think those are useful to have. I do not love having an on switch both on the front and the back. One seems like it's enough. I'd like to be able to see both volts and watts simultaneously but I don't really need to. I think including a 120A fuse (3, 40A) is a good idea from a safety standpoint. The 3 foot cables are long enough and big enough for my application. I don't think I'll use the remote control but it might be important to some people. Basically I don't see anything I really need this doesn't have nor do I seem anything that doesn't work. Back on power for a minute. I hooked this up to my 50 inch LCD TV, a dish hopper, wireless Joey (because it was plugged into the power strip) and DVD player (on standby). The inverter said it was drawing 125W. I think I can add my internet router and modem and stay under 200W. If I turn off the big TV and watch a tablet or computer, I might get it to 100W. If the power outage continues long enough, I can quit entertaining myself for a few minutes and plug in the refrigerator to keep the food from spoiling. I can run a lamp or two so I am not limited to flashlights. Should make a power outage a lot more livable and it isn't a big investment. That's my logic for this little inverter. ... show more

  • Great product, needs longer cables

KR1100 review. This inverter is perfect for someone who wants to add power outlets to run electronics like a small vacuum, TV, and gaming system for road trips as well as add a dedicated Ipad 2.1A usb and a standard 1.0A for cell phones. Upon receiving the package I immediately noticed the quality packaging and weight of the inverter. When I opened it the quality of the packaging inverter and accessories was impressive. Its really high quality materials throughout and protected for shipment. The only shortcoming in the materials is the length of the power cables. 3ft is too short to run inside a car unless your battery is located inside the trunk or cab of your vehicle. I went to a local car stereo installation shop and had 12' cables built for my installation in a van. The 4AWG cables cost $70 out the door. I could have built my own and saved some $ but didn't want the hassle. Installation was pretty easy under the front passenger seat of my van. I did have to drill a hole through my firewall to run cables (super easy) and cut a hole in the base of my passenger seat to mount the remote power switch (required drilling 4 holes and using a jigsaw with metal blade to accomplish). Ran the cables through the firewall and under the carpet to the inverter. Hooked up the cables at the battery and inverter and the installation was done. The remote power switch is a really cool feature as you can install it practically anywhere and you no longer have to access the inverter to turn it on/off. Inverter powered up with no issues and it set off an alarm that the battery was running low. We started the van and the alarm turned off. The display tells you either the amount of volts coming from the battery or the amount of watts being used by the accessories you have plugged in. Display is very easy to read and understand. We immediately plugged in a small vacuum rated at 600 watts and the inverter display showed 588 watts under load. The inverter didn't hesitate or surge and didn't shut off like a lower wattage inverter does. Overall a great inverter and Im happy with my purchase. Would give it 5 stars if the manufacturer charged a little more and provided 10ft cables with the inverter. ... show more

There are 2 main types of power inverters in this catagory of inverter. Sine wave (pure etc.) or modified sine wave. Sine wave produce power very similar to what you would get out of your wall house hold power. Most devices don’t have any issues with this although you should always check. The second type is MODIFIED sine wave. These do not create power the same as your house. They produce a less refined power in order to reduce the price. Which to choose depends on what you are powering. You should always check because some affects happen over time and wouldn’t be noticed in a 5 minute test. A general rule is that the more complicated and sensitive the electronics the worse it will do on MODIFIED sine wave power. Think of it this way, if you drove a car with stop sign shaped wheels it would do ok on sand (this would be a heater) but if you drove on concrete it would be very bumpy (this would be sensitive equipment). There is no universal answer for ok or not ok. Heaters generally don’t care. Motors may have their life reduced (depending on type of motor), laser printers, lights, clocks etc. may not work well. This inverter seemed to do well. We may not end up using it do to potential issues with the equipment running off it. I’ve only tested it for 2 days, but it delivered 1240 watts, around 102 amps at 12 VDC. The watt and battery readings are useful. The cables are a decent length and construction. With no load it draws around 0.031 amps with power switch in back on, 0.357amps with the front switch on. Included a picture of the wave form. ... show more

  • Quick delivery, early review

The 5 stars are early consideration for the quick delivery and being contacted by the manufacturer. They sent an informative email with contacts, hyperlinks and a request for a review. Delivery was super fast. Just barely time to open the box when the email arrived. Its all there. Cables , fuse, remote with wiring. Big manual of instructions. The outlet does have the polarized slots (one bigger hole, one smaller). Earlier reviews have mentioned that being a problem. The base of the case seems to be metal. Probably where they are heatsinking. Looks like the dark cover is aluminum. When I hook it all up I'll come back and update. UPDATE - Ok, here's what I've learned. Power cables are easy and heavy duty. Very impressive. Connections are strong. I attached them to a spare battery which is fairly new. Plenty of juice after being fully charged. Power button(s) - on the back - and front...under the digital readout. Digital readout gives battery voltage and watts out. Plugged in small lights and a fan up first. No problems. Pressing the toggle button gives you the watts you're using. Display is bright and easily read. Using my test equipment, I get only 93 volts at the outlet. I have several multimeters. Digital and analog. Adequate little testers. No major bench equipment. But I'm just interested in what the outlet reads. Just like every outlet in my house. They give me 110volts. For whatever reason I'm only getting 93 volts on this. I plugged in a large variable wattage heater. I knew it was going to be too much. The fan was no problem. However, the heater knocked it out. Turned it off and back on. Just way too much for this unit. Not unexpected. Didn't buy this to run a heater anyway. Decided to measure the voltage drop on one side as I used an electric drill on the other. As the drill started slowly and steadily increased, my voltage increased as well. At full speed the unused outlet was putting out almost 102 volts. Not exactly outstanding....but more than 93 volts. Through all this hour long testing, not once did the inverter cooling fan kick in. Some of my other units have kicked in way sooner. More testing shortly. I'll come back after. UPDATE - I've connected a small solar panel for my initial testing. Couldn't be more pleased with what Krieger supplies with their units. The strong flexible cables make easy connections.Trying to find some flaws but so far I am impressed. UPDATE - Still a noticeable difference in fluorescent lights and how they react to the lower voltage I put out. But I like this machine. Solar controller and battery hookup works so good with the manufacturer supplied cables and stuff. It's perfect for the solar panel approach. It has to be just as effective when using it in a vehicle as well. I am going to void my warranty on this and tinker some. Would love to adjust the voltage output.   • Perfect For Portable Power Bank

UPDATE: 3/24/2021 - YES, 5 YEARS LATER. Still using and have created my "Portable Power Station with batteries/LED Lights and multiple ways to charge. ----- This unit is still working just fine and it's been put through it's paces over the years. ----- It's been used on a deer lease for 3 months, a cabin in the country with no external power for 1 month every day and with the various ways to charge, doesn't require fuel if you have a solar panel. ------ HIGHLY RECOMMEND this 1100 watt inverter. ****************************************************** Long Read - Sorry, just wanted to make sure everyone knows where I'm coming from with this review! While there are other similar products with higher reviews, I always defer to the larger number of reviews for a better idea of what to get. In this case, the ratings didn't fail me at all. Initially, I was very impressed when I unboxed this unit as it was well packaged and also felt very sturdy. I always check the studs that come out of the back where the cables connect, and these were very sturdy. My whole reason for getting this was due to a very close call with the Rowlett, TX tornado's that tore through on 12/26/15. Our house was spared, but we lost power. (Please pray or Offer support if possible to those affected) It was then that I realized I had absolutely no way to power anything but our phone chargers in the car. Once we regained power, I immediately began researching optional power solutions. This 1100 watt inverter had great ratings and reviews, which prompted me to buy it. I also bought a small gas powered inverter, but can't use those indoors. (Carbon Monoxide poisoning if you're wondering) As you can see by the pictures, I also bought a water proof tool box to put it in and set it up so that it can be used just about anywhere. While I have the 1100 watt inverter, it would easily hold the 1500 & 2000w inverters as well. While I currently have the 1100 watt, I may decide to upgrade to the larger ones later and this box is set up to accept either one of them. The 3000w & 4000w are both too big for this case. This 1100w inverter is working great and had no problems powering up a laptop and a 32 inch tv. Hopefully I won't need it for more, but from what I've read in other reviews, I don't think that will be a problem. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The tool box worked great and my next future power purchase is to get the matching rolling tool box that will hold 2 Deep Cycle batteries and this box will sit right on top and I can connect them via power cables. I posted a picture of the box that I got at Home Depot so anyone can get it set up the same way I have it. FYI, I did make two holes in the toolbox, but both are sealed up by rubber gaskets and sealant to keep it water proof. I will answer any questions if need be. ... show more

I highly recommend these inverters. I love the installation kit! I did have to purchase longer wires for my second inverter so that the could reach down to the engine room (we live on a boat moored out in the ocean approximately 1/2 mile from shore) but I kept the ones included to use as I add more batteries to my battery bank. (They are high quality cables!) it appears that the people who are unhappy with service did not call Kreiger but instead we're dealing with the sellers here on Amazon. After one year we started having an issue with our 2000 Kreiger it started shutting off for no reason. No power overload and when I would turn it back on it worked perfectly. I called Kreiger and they had not heard of this issue before. They said I would need to return it to them so that they could test it. I told them that I can't live without it since at that time it was our sole source of electricity. The rep put me on hold and after talking to his boss he said he was authorized to ship me a refurbished unit to use while mine was being tested. He was going to ship me the refurbished unit and include a return box for my unit. Shortly after that I discovered that the problem was the remote control. Once I unplugged it the unit worked perfectly again. I called Kreiger back and he was able to stop the shipment of the refurbished unit and instead mailed me a replacement remote and cable for remote. INCREDIBLE customer service! They went above and beyond excellent! I have since bought a second 1100 Kreiger. So we are now able to shift the electric load back and forth between the two inverters and their separate battery banks so that the solar can fully recharge the resting system. We have 400 watts of solar panels using a 40 amp charge controller going to a 600 amp hour battery bank tied directly to the Kreiger 2000 and we have 200 watts of solar panels with a 20 amp charge controller going to a 200 amp hour battery tied direct to out Kreiger 1100. I attached the inverter directly to batteries not to the charge controllers since this was how Kreiger recommended installing. We are running a 4.4 cubic foot dorm size refrigerator. Internet router, computers and a few fluorescent lights everyday and both systems are able to handle the load with no problem. If you need dependable and affordable...BUY Kreiger!!! ... show more

  • You get what you pay for!

While reading this review, keep in mind that I was talking with both Amazon's Customer Service and KRIËGER's customer service department! The first unit that Amazon shipped came in the manufactures box with a shipping label and a hole in the box. Amazon did not bother to tape the box at all. The next issue was that the unit did not have a serial number which is important for registering the product. When I went to the Manufacturers website, they have an option that does allow you to choose "No Serial Number" but the website refused to let me register - a popup window indicated that the unit is not sold on Amazon! While testing the unit, it shut down after one hours use, while drawing less than 37 watts for my sheds LED flood lights. So I sent a message to Amazons Customer Care group - what a waste of time. I ended up telling them that I would just send the unit back for a refund the day after it had arrived! After I sent the unit back, Amazon sent me an email stating they were sending me a new one that said, "To help you with this, I've created a replacement for you at no additional charge. " Amazon ignored my request for a refund. It should be noted that the day I shipped the unit back, I drove to a local store and purchased a new Power Inverter that actually worked! Despite a request for a refund, the second unit came and again, it was shipped in the manufactures box with a shipping label attached. At least they put tape on the box. When I opened the box, I had a strong burnt electrical smell. I checked the bottom of the unit and again, no serial number. The folks at KRIËGER had been telling me they were having problems with the website and that it was being updated... Folks, it doesn't take a week to repair a web-page and their customers shouldn't have trouble registering products! I tested the unit and it kept my LED Flood lights on over-night. At least that's an improvement over the first unit. I should also mention that in addition to having a burnt smell and again, not having a Serial Number, the second unit gives different power readings from the first unit. Instead of reading 37 watts for the LED Flood lights, the second unit claims I am using 26 Watts of electricity. It also gives different power readings from the solar system in my shed. In other words, I have questions about the quality control for this product! FYI: The maximum outside air temperature that this unit is designed for is 40 C which is 104 degrees. You might want to keep that in mind if you plan on using this item in a vehicle, shed or on a hot summer day. In my opinion, this is not a robust design suitable for today's changing environment. The fact that it is in a plastic case should also be a red flag if you are needing a robust Power Inverter - Plastic will not dissipate heat like a properly designed metal case would. Again, this is just something to keep in mind. So, my advice is before buying a Power Inverter, down load the owners manual and see what the operating temperatures are. The next thing I would do is, after ordering, check to see if it has a serial number and to see if you can actually register the product. Keep in mind that the KRIËGER KU1100 Power Inverter can only run a small drill. It is not big enough to run a Circular Saw and small fans will run slower than what you might want. Also, get a power inverter that is in a metal case, avoid plastic. This power inverter should only be used with Deep Cycle Marine batteries, your car battery isn't designed for this power inverter - for more information Google the subject. In closing: Was I impressed with how Amazon handled this situation? NO! Amazon is banning customers who return items too often. Google that for more information. Why Amazon chose to send me a second unit while ignoring my request for a refund is beyond explanation - I have no idea as to why they did that and I never did get the refund! Was I impressed with KRIËGER's customer service? Between Amazon and KRIËGER, I felt like I was getting the runaround. They advertise a 36 month warranty. They claim if registered, you will get three additional months. Their website claims you will get two additional months if you register. Their customer service people claim you will get eight additional months if you send them an email so they can manually register the product for you - which was stated in the email that 'Power Bright Technologies (KRIËGER) just sent to me... all of this happened in the first week! Some last thoughts: Learn how to hook Power Inverters to a battery properly and in what order. Make sure you are using the "Ground Terminal" properly - I installed two 8' long ground rods that are 8' apart just for the shed's solar system - it doesn't cost that much to do. If you have several battery's, make sure that you are using the correct size of wire. When it comes to electricity and lots of AMP's, do not take shortcuts on safety! Before buying, look over all the negative reviews and take the time to read Techbuy's replies. I mention this because something is wrong. It doesn't matter if the unit is independently tested. It doesn't matter if there is free Amazon Tech support. It doesn't matter if the unit is independently tested and meets standards. It doesn't matter what the warranty claims are because far too many people, including myself, are experiencing the same issues with the product! FYI: This experience is such that, every time I look at the unit in my shed, it will be a reminder that I should be careful about ordering from Amazon... and after reading people's comments, I serious doubts about "Claimed 36 plus 8 months" warranty from this company! ... show more
