As advertised... Since there is no motion sensor, the battery life is excellent. In the year and half I have owned this, just changed batteries once. The night light uses a ten hour on timer. You will need to turn it on at the time you want the ten hour period to start. liked the snap on snap off feature for cleaning under the hinge area. The blue light is very cool but a bit disappointed that the light goes off after about 7 or 8 hours but get that it saves the batteries and that the the lights really don't do much in the daylight. We like this toilet seat, it installed easily, does not slide around, and fits our 19" high Bradenton model toilet from Signature Hardware. The light that comes with the seat seems to me to be superfluous.
