Best Automatic Wire Stripper I’ve Used – Fast, Clean, and Very Reliable

This wire stripper is easily one of the best wire stripping tools I’ve used for electrical and low-voltage work. It feels like a true professional-grade tool right out of the box. Build quality is excellent, as expected from KNIPEX. The tool feels solid, lightweight, and very well engineered. The spring-loaded automatic mechanism works smoothly and consistently, and the grips are comfortable even during long wiring sessions. In use, it strips wire very cleanly with little effort. Once adjusted, it automatically adapts to different wire sizes (10–24 AWG), which makes repetitive stripping jobs much faster compared to manual strippers. It performs especially well in the common 18–22 AWG range, where it is very consistent and rarely damages the conductor when used properly. The built-in stop for strip length is also helpful for getting repeatable results, especially when working on panels or multiple identical connections. You'll wish you bought this a LONG time ago
Style: Wire Stripper
Not cheap but works exceptionally well. Accurately strips insulation from a wide range of wire gages without damaging the wire. Tested it on a variety of wire gages within range of tool and perfect EVERY time. Adjusting for different gages and strip lengths simple and quick. Easy to operate one-handed in a tight area is a bonus not appreciated until you need to do that. Another nice feature is the stripping "blades" are replaceable if you should ever need to vs tossing it and buying another stripper. The only consideration may be the tool is not metal ... feels/looks like a tough glass filled nylon or similar. Plenty durable for most environments ... but, if you're working somewhere like an oil drilling platform or underground mine etc where your tools will take a physical beating day in day out, this may not be the greatest choice for longevity. But other than you too will wish you'd bought one a LONG time ago!

Wow. These work fantastic. I love the adjustable features and the clipper on top was an unexpected bonus. Now I can strip my wires at the same length everytime. I was a little unsure about the angled handles over the traditional streight handles but im sold now. I wish that i had these a long time ago

I ordered KNIPEX Automatic Wire Stripper 10-24 AWG, currently $44.10, but received Automatic Wire Stripper 10-24 AWG, currently $47.83. The difference is that the latter has a tension adjuster (a second red slider) on the upper jaw. (You'll notice that the two models are confused in the listings' pictures and in the reviews.) I'm glad I got the wrong one because the tension needs to be higher on smaller wires, and I'm mostly using 22 AWG. Even with that, sometimes it just doesn't strip the wire the first (or second, or third) try. That may be because I just don't get the wire into the channel, and that may be because the tool is mostly red and black, and so are the wires I'm stripping. It's also easy to miss the stop that determines the length of the strip, and easy to miss the blade when cutting wire -- if you don't have your wire spool on a spindle, you need a third hand to get the wire into the notch every time. Still, it saves whole lot of time and strips more neatly and consistently, with less damage to the wire, than plier-like strippers. I should also mention that the stripper came in an open box with no instructions, and I haven't found any instructions online either. I learned how to use it by reading reviews.

Difficult to improve over this design

**Knipex Automatic Wire Strippers, 10-24 Gauge Review** **Discovery and First Impressions:** I first heard about the Knipex Automatic Wire Strippers on Adam Savage's YouTube channel, Tested. I usually trust his recommendations, so I decided to give these a try. I have some experience with wire stripping, and I plan on doing a lot more, which is why I got them. **Performance:** These wire strippers are amazing when it comes to performance. They strip the ends of wires perfectly, which makes the process really satisfying. I've even found myself stripping spare wires just for fun. You can adjust how much wire you want to strip and how strong the tension is. Even with small wires, I've never had any issues with snapping them. The tool seems to adjust its tension really well, whether you set it high or low. There's also a cutter on top, though it's in a bit of an awkward spot, but it works fine. **Ergonomics:** The ergonomics of this tool are fantastic. It fits well in your hand with a full-handed pistol grip lever action that's comfortable to use. If you have a lot of wires to strip, this tool makes the job much more enjoyable. **Build and Material:** Now, this isn't a cheap tool. It's for people who plan to do a lot of wire stripping and want to save time. While it's a bit pricey for regular folks, it's worth it if you need to strip a lot of wires. However, it is a bit disappointing that the entire tool is made of plastic. Even though it's durable, I expected a bit more for the price. Style: Wire Stripper
I bought these Knipex automatic wire strippers from Amazon in December 2022 (used, in very good condition). They quickly became my go-to wire strippers and worked flawlessly for years. Eventually, however, I noticed inconsistent performance and discovered a hairline crack in a plastic component. Despite attempts to repair it, the tool continued to deteriorate. While researching a permanent fix, I learned about Knipex’s lifetime warranty. Although I knew the warranty applied only to the original purchaser, I contacted Knipex anyway. They asked me to send in the damaged tool for evaluation, and after a simple email exchange and shipment to their U.S. service center, they sent me a brand-new replacement—despite having no obligation to do so. Here’s the takeaway: I’ve owned several Knipex tools over the years (various Cobra pliers, insulated screwdrivers, etc), but this level of customer service earned my loyalty for life. It seems to me that nowadays, when most companies engage in the “planned obsolescence” of their products to maximize profits, few things build lasting loyalty like a company that exceeds expectations when it doesn’t have to.

Way below expectation
Style: Wire Stripper
The first impulse to buy this tool was: I have a similar unbranded stripper that is nearing EOL, the knives are getting dull. Knowing Knipex through decades as a manufacturer with a reputation for quality tools, I assumed I could not go wrong with this wire stripper. Wrong I went. First impression is that it is smaller than expected. Next I find that the "business" components like the pull-back slide that look like grey metal in the picture actually are some composite plastic material. On further inspection, there are just a few metallic parts made from stamped and layered sheet metal in this tool, nothing solid here, all components are optimized for low production cost, as opposed to rigidity and durability. The most disappointing moment: I try to strip an AWG 10 THHN wire, and the tool is incapable to do the job. Initially, the knives ride on top of the insulation and just scrape surface, nothing else. Applying some force on the jaws to get a deeper bite into the insulation stops the scraping, however, the knives do not cut the insulation, instead, they try to pull the barely cut insulation off the wire. Certainly, the nylon cover on the THHN is tough stuff, but the tool was advertised to handle AWG10. At this point, the plastic handle is bending to a degree where I might break the tool. It feels spongy, and although I apply quite some force, it plain just does not cut it, even trying to rotate the knives around the cable. So for that part: Forget all about stripping AWG10 THHN wire with it. No friggin' way. I later tried it on much softer rubber insulated cable ranging from AWG22 (CAT5 Network Cable) up to AWG 12 - with better result - but that is NOT what i needed this tool for. It's just too sad to see yet another reputable German toolmaker cut corners in terms of quality and slowly going south. This tool is disappointing, specially looking at the price tag.
