Top Amazon Reviews

  • Best in class, especially when used right
Color: Onyx Black Size: 6 quart Style Name: Mixers
It's the best machine in its class. Read the reviews for other machines and you'll see that every brand breaks occasionally, but this machine is tougher than the rest. And prettier! The machine comes with the necessary warnings about not overloading it or abusing it. It's a machine--stay within it's parameters of use and it'll last as long as your mother's did, barring the occasional lemon, which all manufacturers sometimes put out (and if you lose the lottery and get a lemon, Kitchenaid will replace it quickly with a brand new warranty on the replacement). This machine will do everything it is advertised to do without worries when it is used correctly. For example, since the instructions say don't go over setting 2 for yeast dough and you get impatient and do it anyway, your machine might heat up, shut off, and/or break a gear. Stay at setting 2, and you'll make perfect dough in a fraction of the time over hand-kneading with no struggle for the machine, every single time. My 600 has all metal gears and the metal gear box--the period of time when they were made with either the plastic gears, or metal gears with the plastic gear box was a mistake on Kitchenaid's part that they have fixed. If you do have a machine with plastic gears and you use it incorrectly and end up with problems, they are easy and relatively inexpensive to fix--find a good local small-appliance repair person--no need to send it off at ridiculous cost (unless it's still under warranty); or if you or someone in your household is mechanically inclined, then look at the videos on switching out the gears on these--it's pretty straightforward and inexpensive. When I make bread, I use 7 cups bread flour for artisan bread and the machine hardly warms up from its less-than-8-minutes' work (the limit is 14 cups all purpose flour--haven't done that, but mine doesn't become nearly uncomfortable-to-touch from heat, which they say would be normal). Pie crust (one pound butter, four cups flour) takes maybe three minutes and the machine purrs through it. And the supposed mess? Keep the speed where it should be, and mix your ingredients correctly, and you'll never fling flour or batter everywhere even if you don't use the splashguard. Last word: I use my Kitchenaid within it's use guidelines and am thrilled by what I make in my kitchen with it! Every.single.time--doughs, batters, and pie crusts. UPDATE: I've recently started making bread using 50% more flour (10.5 cups) and the machine barely warms up--I place my hand on top where others say it gets too hot to touch and I feel some very slight heat-buildup. It has to mix a little longer because of the increased volume, but I'm starting to think it's over-built for proper use within its recommended parameters. That's evidence of good design! We have parents from Eastern Europe staying with us for a couple of months and we're consuming two pounds of bread per day (housefold of 5 bread-eating adults), so my experience with it's new work-load isn't just occasional. EDIT, Oct 2023 I started a year ago making my own sausage using the Kitchenaid aluminum meat grinder. (Buy the stainless steel one if you don't mind the price--easier to clean.) Not only does it make small work of three pounds of meat, it really is designed to be a natural extension of the stand mixer. What a great product--still going strong after 7 years! And the well made and sturdy grinder will no doubt hang in there with the team! ... show more

  • Really great mixer....Really.
Color: Onyx Black Size: 6 quart Style Name: Mixers
I never owned a KitchenAid, and frankly I didn't want to spend the money on one. So, aside from the money, I'm very happy with my purchase. The one I purchased would not adjust so that the beater did not touch the bowl, so I called KitchenAid and they immediately replaced it. This one adjusted perfectly. Really fast service. I made a huge batch of bread with heavy dough right away, to make sure I would be happy, and WOW...it really made easy work of it. Made four loaves at once. Filled up that 6 qt bowl. I read every review I could find. First, I want to say that this mixer is heavy, and it has all metal parts. They came out with a lighter one, but I wanted this heavy one, because I felt it would be better quality. I have the Pro 600, because I make a lot of bread, and large batches of sweet breads and cookies. I also work with almond flour often, which is heavier than wheat. I am impressed with the quality of this machine, and I feel KitchenAid will stand behind it. I hate that their additional attachments are so expensive, and I did purchase the meat grinder and vegetable slicer/shredder even though I have a food processor. We use a lot of natural meats (wild pigs and venison in addition to home raised beef) so I felt we would use the meat grinder a lot. My husband used to use his mother's old KitchenAid, so we know it would work, and her's was not a Professional model. And yes, it works really great. Hope it lasts me a lifetime. I know I will enjoy it. ... show more

  • Packaged great! Good quality (so far).
Color: Onyx Black Size: 6 quart Style Name: Mixers
I bought this Pro600 to make bread. Only paid $322 here on Amazon. KitchenAid had it listed Sale: $399.99 / MSRP: $649.99 (I copied/pasted THAT off their website from my code KP26M1XOB). It was delivered today, and the packaging was great! It was in a KitchenAid box, and then inside another box, and then inside an AMAZON box. The KitchenAid box had styrofoam around the machine keeping it in place and totally protected. I had read reviews about the mixing bowl having black dust stuff in it, mine did NOT. I washed it with a touch of Dawn on a sponge & dried it with a white paper towel. It was clean. The manual tells you how to start up the machine, and test the DEPTH of the bowl to the blades. If it is not aligned correctly the manual tells you how to adjust it, but mine was perfect from the factory. I slid a piece of PAPER between the bottom of each blade and the bowl and it fit, with no room to spare. I planned to make a loaf of my LOW CARB bread, but I was out of flax meal, so I will make that tomorrow and leave another review. I also tried (as the manual said) each speed while I was testing the blades in the bowl. The complaints about this being loud are nuts! It is a motor, so there is some noise, but nothing to complain about at all. I thought it was quiet for the power it has. I am so!! excited to use this for all of my baking. We are learning to live a low carb KETO lifestyle and I am looking forward to this being an integral part of our success with that. Thank you KitchenAid! I only selected 3 stars on the versatility because I am not sure about the accessories... just me. But overall 5 stars! (Wanda - Daniel's wife). ... show more
