  • An Iconic Workhorse with Noticable Limits: Power Over Polish
Color: White Style: Mixer
The KitchenAid Classic Series 4.5 Quart Stand Mixer is a kitchen staple for a reason—it’s built like a tank and can handle almost any dough you throw at it. However, the "Classic" entry-level model lacks some of the refined stability found in the more expensive Professional or Artisan series. Why the experience feels a bit rough: - The "Shaky" Factor: One of the biggest issues is that the mixer can get shaky at high speeds. Because it’s a tilt-head design with a slightly lighter base than the bowl-lift models, it tends to "dance" or vibrate on the counter when you're whipping at high velocity or working through a particularly stiff batch of cookies. - Noise Level: It is definitely noisy. The motor has a very mechanical, high-pitched whir that becomes quite prominent as you dial up the speed. It’s a loud reminder of the 250 watts of power under the hood, but it’s far from a quiet kitchen experience. - Solid Construction: Despite the noise and vibration, the all-metal construction is incredibly durable. This is a machine that feels like it will last for decades, even if it isn't the smoothest operator in the room. - Perfect Entry-Level Size: The 4.5-quart bowl is the "sweet spot" for most home bakers. It’s large enough for a standard loaf of bread or a dozen cupcakes but doesn't take up as much precious counter space as the massive pro models. It’s a dependable, legendary tool that gets the job done, but you’ll have to tolerate a bit of noise and movement to get those perfect results. ... show more

  • Top quality stand mixer Top quality stand mixer
Color: Onyx Black Style: Mixer
The price matches the quality of this stand mixer, and once you have one you'll finally understand why they're so expensive compared to other brands (it's the attachments, really.) It's very easy to clean by hand. It has several speed settings and can mix basically anything whether it's pie filling, cake mix, biscuit mix, brownies, chicken dip, etc. I haven't used any of the attachments like the pasta maker etc. but I'm sure they work well. I've had experience using one for a few years before this so it feels intuitive to me, but there isn't a lot to learn. There's a control to lift the mixer head and one to put it back into position. Each of the included mixer attachments (dough hook, wisk, etc.) attaches simply by just locking on to the stand and comes off the same way. After having one, I can't ever go back to using a hand mixer or mixing things by actual hand - no way. It even makes the prep times listed on recipes look slow. ... show more

  • I might become a baker!
Color: Onyx Black Style: Mixer
I purchased this because my weakened hand strength made using my old hand mixer difficult. It is excellent quality. Easy to use and has a clearly written booklet is included. I’m not much of a baker, but with this I may expand my repertoire.

  • Clearly the best for the price, and more than adequate even for heavy dough
Color: White Style: Mixer
KitchenAid has three main models of stand mixer: the 4.5 quart Classic tilt-head ($188, or $226 for the slightly more powerful "Plus"), the 5 quart Artisan tilt-head ($298), and the 6 quart fixed-head Professional ($359). The prices are Amazon prices; MSRP is considerably more, and B&M retailers have trouble matching Amazon even with Black Friday sales. I'm sure the bigger mixers are, in some ways, better, but don't underestimate what an enormous step up even the lowly Classic model is from a hand mixer or plastic food processor. This is a very solid product. And most of us, while we value the convenience of a big stand mixer when baking things, don't exactly use these things every day. Even if you think that at some point in the future, you have reason to get a bigger one, remember that the bigger ones take up a lot more space, and these things actually have decent resale value, so if you want to upgrade later, your previous investment isn't necessarily lost altogether. I bought this because I'd been baking Dutch-style appeltaart a number of times, and people really like it, but it was a lot of work to make. At some point, I looked into how to make it faster, and I ended up getting a $20 peeler/corer/slicer for the apples, as well as this mixer. Appeltaart involves a heavy shortbread pasty crust (what the Germans call "Mürbeteig"), which is a challenge for a lot of kitchen equipment and traditionally has to be kneaded by hand, so if I was going to get a device to make it for me, it would have to be a pretty heavy-duty one. The dough has a 3:2:1 flour/butter/sugar ratio (by weight) and just a little bit of egg. Usually, I'd cut the butter into small pieces to make it easier, but to put this mixer to the test, I just dumped in the ingredients and pulled the delightfully solid-feeling lever to the slowest speed. It wasn't a small amount of dough either; the bowl was filled pretty much to capacity and a little bit of flour spilled out initially. At first, it looked like the dough was never going to come together, but I just left it running for a few minutes and before long I had a perfect dough. I had worried that maybe the dough would be too crumbly because the mixer can't do the typical squeezing motion that you do by hand to really make the dough cohesive, but it turns out that once everything is thoroughly mixed, it only takes 10 seconds of hand-kneading to make the dough really come together. The hard work is really in the mixing and the mixer does it extremely well. It's clear that these things have been on the market for a long time and a lot of minor issues have been worked out over the years. The shape of the attachments and the shape of the bowl, for instance, are well matched to each other so the thing will beat even a single egg or a small amount of whipping cream just fine, and doughs don't stick to the bowl when using the paddle attachment. The bayonet type bowl attachment really locks the bowl in place without making it hard to remove, things don't splatter into spots that are hard to clean, etc. Two nit-picks: 1. The mixer works if you don't lock it in the down position. I can't imagine this is good for the internal gearing, though then again the head is heavy enough that it might not matter very much. Still, it would be good to have some sort of interlock so that it didn't operate when you don't lock it down. Meanwhile, just remember to double-check that you have it locked down before turning it on. 2. The whisk attachment oxidizes a lot when you put it in a dishwasher, especially if you use a copious amount of strong detergent (e.g. Cascade brand). This leaves a black powdery residue that rubs off easily. I don't think it's particularly dangerous if it were to end up in your food in small quantities, but it has a metallic smell and taste and it's unsightly. I'm sure it says somewhere in the manual that the whisk attachment shouldn't go in the dishwasher, but it would be nice if the manufacturer could either make it so this doesn't happen in the first place, or alternatively attached a label to the thing with a warning so you can't miss it. ... show more

  • Probably not ideal for large pizza batches
Color: Onyx Black Style: Mixer
Might need a bit more power for 1kg pizza ball doughs. This sucker got hot. It never quit or smoked or broke in any way but wow. Too hot to touch almost. Quality is top notch as usual with these things. If they made a huge size you could probably use it as a tornado shelter. Even this baby one is heavy. ... show more

  • I have wanted a KitchenAid mixer all my life…
Color: Onyx Black Style: Mixer
This mixer happened to have been on sale and thanks to Amazon and Affirm. I was able to get something. I wanted my whole life, but could never afford outright… The only issue I had was that it came in Styrofoam, which appeared as if it should’ve come with more attachments, but having looked it up I found out that it only came with three basic attachments and the other things you’ll have to buy along the way. I had a little bit of trouble securing the whisk and figuring out how to do that but I’m using it today for the first time and I just keep looking at it like it’s a mirage because like I said, I never thought I’d be able to afford to have a KitchenAid Mixer. I had my mother’s mixer from the 1920s and I was using that in back then that brand was comparable to a KitchenAid mixer is today… And it worked great until my former boyfriend broke all the bowls that it came with and at the time those were opaque, white glass bowls, and they came in three different sizes and then the motor started to go so it was time to retire for good. But I’ve had a KitchenAid toaster oven for 12 years and it’s been a great asset to my life. So I trust the KitchenAid brand they always make quality products. That’s why they’re the price that they are. They’re built to last a lifetime. So so far I have nothing but good things to say I got a black one and it doesn’t have a scratch on it , it looks beautiful on my counter. I’m trying to die right now and has bought a couple of vegetarian cookbooks and I’m looking forward to using this mixer and making different things with it. Having a device like this in the type of attachments you can buy open up to be able to make all different kinds of dishes instead of , relying on things that are already made that you have to buy. Someone who has a lot of health problems so I’m trying to change the way I eat and control the things I put in my body and making them from scratch. I think it’s a great way to do that and this mixer is also going to Aid in this quest. I am so glad I bought it. It was packaged very securely. It didn’t appear to be something that had been purchased before and returned. It was obviously brand new and it was a box within a box within a box, they packaged it very carefully. Just make sure when you open your box you should have a manual. You should have a piece of paper that allows you to register register your device either by your phone or by mail, and then I think there’s another piece of paper that has other information on it but hold onto all of your paperwork. That’s always important just in case something goes wrong. I’m going to break down the KitchenAid box and get rid of the Styrofoam, but I’ll hold onto the box just in case I have any issue, but I don’t anticipate having any problems with it. I’ve owned KitchenAid items before and never had to return them or even have them service so I’m hoping that this will be the case here as well. If you’re like debating whether you should get it, I would take advantage of the sale because even $70 is a huge amount of money for someone like me and that was what got me to finally just decide to finance it and , get this mixer for myself. I have no regrets and I would recommend it to anyone out there looking for the best. Because KitchenAid is the best. ... show more
