I've had a chance to use this new paddle for making Christmas cookies and I have to say that I think it works better then the original paddle that came with my mixer. It's easier to clean the dough from (since the metal is so smooth) and it seams to mix better. I also like that the hole in the neck, where it attaches to the mixer, goes all the way through. Over the years we've gone through several of the coated beater attachments. Eventually the coating started to chip off. It seems the newer beaters chip even faster than the old ones. So finally decided to go for the solid stainless steel version. Should have done this long ago. I had to replace the beater for my mixer when the powdercoat paint started bubbling up and chipping off. To be fair, it was over 20 years old, but I didn't want to have to deal with this again, and I was tired of handwashing the beater. The new stainless steel beater is almost three times as heavy as the old powdercoated zinc (346 grams vs 127 grams), it fits fine in both my bowls and best of all it is dishwasher safe. My old white paddle attachment was chipping. When I read that the metal beneath is high in lead I began looking for a better replacement. A few stores sell the attachment 3 pack but it is not as easy to find just the paddle by itself it seems. I read tons of Q and A on the kitchen aid website about the stainless paddle and there are many questions that ask what grade of stainless this is or whether it is solid stainless or an alloy and the answers always seem to skirt the question. Some answers saying they can't reveal "proprietary information". This made me wonder if I could trust their product truly being made of stainless steel or not, but as the white paddle I owned was getting more and more chipped every time I used it, I decided to give it a try. It appears to be one solid piece of metal and quite heavy. So far I am happy with it. I hand wash my attachments so I haven't seen any discoloration. ... show more
