  • Much better than the "traditional" type asian strainer!
Color: Black
Fantastic strainer! For years I've been using a slotted spoon to scoop french fries & tater tots out of the oil, which works but also scoops out a small amount of oil which I don't like, as I like to save & re-use the oil a few times. I bought a Farberware Asian Strainer at Wally Mart thinking it would be better in leaving the oil in the pan, and I was correct on that point. BUT... I found problems with it immediately. The basket is made from a thin braided wire mesh, and where the wire is wrapped around the handle loop, the ends are VERY sharp and can cause nasty cuts if you wash it by hand. (found that out the hard way 1st time I washed it...) Likewise those wire ends will rip into your sponge, and the towel when you dry it, and you will be left with sponge and towel fragments stuck in the strainer which you then get to pick out one by one. (Unless you like those things as food additives...) Also, sponge & towel fibers get caught between the wires where they're braided together, so there's more picking to be done. I saw this Kitchenaid strainer on Amazon, and it looked like a MUCH better design. If you prefer washing by hand, you don't have the braided wire wrapped around the loop to cut you with sharp wire ends, and there's no place for the sponge or towel to get snagged and leave fibers for you to pick out. You also don't have wires twisted together leaving places for food or oil to be trapped. It's all heavy-gauge wire construction, welded together with NO sharp points anywhere to rip into your fingers, no braided wires to trap food or sponge or towel bits. I was concerned that the spacing between the bars of the wire "spiral" in the basket might be enough to let fast-food type fries slip through, but spacing looks to be 5/16" so I don't think there'll be a problem there. Used it tonight for 1st time for some steak fries, and it worked great. Another "plus" is the smooth basket edge won't tear up my teflon fry pan that I use for fried potatoes. Some of the wire ends on the Farberware strainer were angled so they could scratch the teflon - not good! But the Kitchenaid strainer has only 6 wire-ends on the edge, and they're rounded off and polished smooth to avoid scratching. If you need a strainer of this type, I highly recommend! Looks to be very well-made, and clearly a much better design than the traditional wire "basket" strainers. ... show more

  • Great kitchen tool! Happy with it.
Color: Black 2
I like the fact that it is not overly long like some I looked at, but just the right length for dipping into pots. Kitchen Aid is always a dependable brand for most things and this strainer doesn’t disappoint. Nice looking, sturdy, and seems like it will last.

  • Always Pleased by KitchenAid
Color: Black 2
As usual for anything produced by the KitchenAid Company, this small appliance works perfectly. I used to have to wash off the starch from any noodles I cooked, so they wouldn't stick together. Then I learned to eliminate the necessity of this step by adding some olive oil to the water in which the noodles boiled. But then, how to get the noodles out of the pot and onto the plate? I bought two tools, both from KitchenAid: a spaghetti noodle grabber, and this strainer for smaller and shorter noodles (e.g. elbow or rotini). Now I use this marvelous thing to scoop the boiled noodles out of the water, effortlessly and painlessly. It surely is A LOT EASIER than fishing them out with a slotted spoon! ... show more

  • Works well
Color: Black 2
Well made. Using with my 14” Pow Wok as well as a variety of other uses when I need to lift something out of hot liquid. Although you can hang this through the strainer section, there is no hole on the handle for hanging. This may be the case for all KitchenAid utensils in this series.
