I make a lot of rice in our home and thought this would be to have. The the right strainer is a heavy duty bowl very durable to good size made very well. I like how it is flat on the bottom in the middle and then on the bottom on each side is at an angle so it’s easy to tilt to drain the water out the only issue I had was the holes in the bowl are little too big. The rest that I have some of it was coming out when I was draining the water not a lot of rice, but I can hear the rice hitting my sink so I could tell there were some that was coming out. I will still use the strainer. It’s not that big of a deal, but the hose could be a little smaller. ... show more

You can fill it up to soak and swish your rice, tilt it slightly toward the sink, and watch the cloudy water shoot out the side vents without losing a single grain. I love the innovation - new to me - and the design. The holes are small enough that rice stays put while the water drains quickly, which makes it especially handy for rinsing rice or draining pasta without losing any of it through the bottom. The angled design of the base is what really sets it apart - you can set it on the counter so it drains straight into the sink hands-free, hold it under the faucet, or prop it in whatever position works best for the job. There just aren’t many other options out there built quite like this. This feels very solid in the hand. It's not lightweight, but not heavy either - and you can tell the construction is good quality. I especially like the extended lip around the rim; it gives you something substantial to grip instead of a thin rolled edge. Mine arrived protected by two pieces of plastic that snapped together, one over the outside and one inside, so the finish was completely flawless when I unpacked it. I’ve was anxious to test this one, and did so with rice and pasta and it worked exactly the way it should. I’m also planning to use it when I make bone broth because the small holes will catch a lot of the finer bits and keep them out of the finished stock. I've been using this bowl/colander for far more than I initially expected. It's bigger than I was picturing which really gives space to use it as a bowl if you tip it one way, and drain the contents when you tip it to the other side. I haven't even used it to drain rice yet, but I've used it to contain and drain thawed frozen spinach and thawed diced onions from my freezer, noodle water, and water that I soaked potatoes in after shredding them to make hash browns. It was really handy to grate and soak my potato shreds, and drain them, in just one bowl and not have multiple big bowls to clean. I have also used it as a plain old bowl when I was chopping veggies and just needed a big bowl to hold dry ingredients. The pieces were bigger than the little drain holes so it worked fine. This bowl has smaller holes than my other colanders so it is really a lot more versatile to drain off liquids as completely as I wish without losing small solids. It's easy to clean, and made of durable stainless steel. It should last a lifetime. This has been a great addition to my kitchen--I bought it on a whim and was surprised how handy it is. Yes, eventually I'll make a big pot of rice and drain it in this bowl but I live alone and usually I'm cooking just for me in my electric rice cooker.
