They always are, though. COMMENTS: QA for lower end Chinese kitchen knives is very poor, so your set may be better or worse than mine. Throw the honing rod away and get a decent ceramic rod to replace it. Regarding the steel, with very few exceptions, every knife set in this price range is made from the same steel, in the same handful of factories. Only the designs and brand names are different. Even the steels are identical. So-called German High Carbon Stainless, German Stainless, X50Cr15MoV and every variant of these numbers and letters is ALL just a markety BS way to say "It's 1.4116". Also, it's probably not actually German. 1.4116 originated in Germany, but you're probably going to get a Chinese copy of it, which is fine. It does not stay sharp for long, like really not long at all, but it's easy to sharpen, not too brittle and fairly stain resistant. It's a good steel for 99% of home cooks, and it's affordable. Do not use them on hard cutting boards or actually chop with them and for the love of God don't drag the blades sideways across the cutting surface. This is the single best way to utterly ruin even top of the line kitchen knives. Flip it over and use the spine to move things around, never the edge. So, anyway, I say go for it of you need some new knives. Even if you don't buy these, if you're not good with whetstones or rod sharpeners, do find a different set without bolsters so you can use a pull through sharpener.

Knifes are really sharp at the beginning but they are starting to lose their edge. Needs sharpening every other week or so.

These have wooden handles so they definitely cannot go into the dishwasher but that is the only negative. They are weighted and put together very well. Steak knives are serrated and cut through thick meat (porkchops for example) easily.
