This all-in-one espresso machine with built-in grinder has completely transformed my coffee experience. As my first manual machine, I was impressed by how quickly it arrived and its premium unboxing experience - complete with a heavy-duty stainless steel tamper, milk pitcher, multiple baskets, and a 58mm portafilter. The solid construction shines everywhere except the water tank (a soft plastic that feels out of place on such a quality machine). I obtained my first electric burr coffee grinder about a year ago, which introduced me to the elevated taste sensation of freshly ground coffee beans each day. That grinder set me off on a new hobby of exploring a variety of coffee brewing techniques, and I've even taken a journey down the rabbit hole of obtaining and roasting my own coffee beans. So when this excellent Kismile espresso machine was offered to me for review, it was an exciting offer I couldn't refuse. I had come to view espresso as an ultimate coffee brewing technique, but one that presented it's own challenges, described further below. The machine and it's accessories arrived double-boxed (beyond the shipping container) to protect the contents during transport. Inside, each piece was wrapped in plastic, with all pieces surrounded and protected within custom-fit Styrofoam inserts. The machine arrived with all of the accessories needed for the prepare rich-tasting espresso, latte, or cappuccino. They include the bean hopper that fits into the built-in grinder, a portafilter (referred to as a pressurized funnel in the manual), four stainless steel filters (two pressurized and two non-pressurized) for both single- and double-cup pours, a stainless steel coffee tamper, a stainless milk frothing cup, two cleaning tools inside a hideaway tool box, and importantly, a fairly detailed instruction manual and separate laminated grinding & extraction guide - needed for an espresso novice such as myself. YouTube review videos dedicated to this model were also quite helpful. During it's unboxing, I was impressed by the build quality and attractiveness of the machine. It and all accessories are well made. The sides and top of the machine are molded from sturdy gray plastic, while the front-facing operational parts of the machine are either brushed or polished stainless steel. The dimensions of the machine are slightly larger than stated; approximately 13.75"D x 12.65'W x 16.75"H. While the weight is stated to be 20.5 pounds, adding 2.8 liters of water to the reservoir in back adds another 6.17 pounds. It's bulky. Highlights of the machine are: - Quick heat-up and brewing time. - The built-in coffee bean grinder on top is convenient and effective. The bean hopper is easy to install, and it can be rotated to set grind size from 0-30 (O being the finest, 30 the coarsest, 15 is recommended to start). It's advised to adjust the grind-size setting prior to adding beans, because once filled with beans they interfere with rotation of the hopper - forcing it can damage the grinder. The hopper holds up to 8.8oz (226.8g), but to prevent the beans from absorbing moisture, it's recommended to only use a daily portion to retain freshness. Following that advice also facilitates grind size adjustment in between usage. A caveat is that the grinder operates by a preset time, not volume or weight of beans (as I'm accustomed to using for pour-overs). The default grinding time required for a double-cup dose, for a grind size setting of 10-15, is ~13 seconds to produce 0.6oz, or 17g. However, the time can be adjusted, so using a coffee scale can help achieve a desired volume or weight. - The strong 20-bar pressure system provides café-quality shots with a rich golden-brown crema. - The 2.8 liter water tank on the back of the machine provides ample water volume for numerous brews. It can be easily filled through it flip-up lid, and is removable for filling or cleaning. Using filtered water can help reduce the frequency of descaling. - The brewing temperature is adjustable. The machine has a PID control function that monitors the water temperature to 198°F for ideal extraction. However, the temperature can be adjusted to between 190-205°F in 3.6°F increments by pressing a series of the function buttons, as explained in the provided extraction guide. - The steam-driven milk frother works great to create a creamy foam texture for lattes and cappuccinos. I watched some videos on how to create clever latte art, but that is still a skill I have yet to master, although it's fun trying. I found it best to keep the nozzle tip submerged until the bottom of the provided milk frothing cup gets too hot to the touch. Speaking from experience, avoid raising the tip above the milk line or it will create too-large bubbles, splatter milk everywhere, and the heat of the tip will cause adhered milk to sear onto it making it difficult to clean. - The current $320 cost of the machine could be counted in the "challenges" category below, but I find it reasonable for the build quality and features. It is less expensive than similar models offered by other resellers, and far less expensive than some popular name brand units. Challenges: - There is a learning curve for novices such as myself. I was intimidated by this machine when I first obtained it, but thoroughly reading the manuals and watching a few online videos got me up and running with confidence. I'm still learning, but that's the fun of any new hobby. - The size and weight of the machine make it a bit bulky for those with limited counter space, such as myself. My only placement option was in an L-shaped recessed corner of my kitchen counter underneath overhanging cabinets. I had to rearrange that area and create space in my cabinets to store various other coffee-related items. Even with the area cleared, I found the bulk of the machine difficult to maneuver, so I obtained a low-profile wooden appliance sliding tray with four small 360°-rotating castor wheels embedded underneath. That ideal solution facilitated agile movement of the machine, allowing me to slide it back and forth to open counter space for food prep as needed, and to aid with cleaning and filling of the water reservoir. Recommended. - Cleanup after each use is far more tedious than other brewing techniques that I've used. I'm resistant to pouring coffee grounds down the sink, so obtaining a knock box might help with that effort. - Some reviewers have cited the loudness of the grinder and/or milk frother as negatives, but in my opinion that comes with the territory. Overall, this Kismile semi-automatic expresso machine offers feature-rich options at an affordable price. It's sleek and handsome profile adds panache to anyone's brewing area, while providing optimal extraction to produce café-quality expresso, latte, or cappuccino. Recommended.

I've been wanting to transition to espresso and finally made the jump with this. I did do some research to make sure I had good beans, I did watch and read content on how to make the best espressos, and the last piece of the puzzle was the machine itself. Surface level - it does everything. It grinds the beans down, comes with the tamper - a very solid one at that, makes the espresso, and has the steamer built in as well. Comes with almost everything you can want/need buiilt in - single and double cup filter, a place for storing cleaning supplies, a metal container that makes it easy to see if your cold milk is now hot - the only thing missing is the spiky thing to displace the grinds before tamping. Holds a lot of water unlike the really small and compact setups. Speaking on size it is sizable - not big, but could be a little smaller, I was disappointed that the depth made it not work where I originally wanted it in the kitchen. I honestly still need to drill in a couple settings - that's one thing that isn't fairly obvious how to do (there is an on button, a grind button, a single cup button, and a double cup button along with a knob for hot water/steam) - as I feel it grinds too many beans initially - so I feel like I'm wasting some beans and more annoyingly leaving grinds all over the place. Great value, GREAT performance, feels solid like its going to last, easy to use, I really couldn't ask for too much more (cups, that would have been nice heh)
