  • A+ Electronics hobbled by F tier case design
Size: 512GB
Kingston really hit it out of the park for PCB size and performance on this blazingly fast thumb drive. Its providing significantly faster than SATA performance on 10gbps USB interfaces, still magnificent performance on the more common 5gbps USB interface and even when hobbled by USB 2.0 still manages to impress. I particularly like that it shows up properly in SMART readers like Crystal Disk Info as well and i can check SMART attributes and temperatures. But wow did they spectacularly fail the case design. This thumb drives case is hands down the chintziest of the dozen thumb drives I've owned and i am worried it will break while in a pocket. Inserting into a USB port feels like it could snap off if you are not careful and the sliding design just exacerbates the issue. The plastic shell effetely acts as an insulator rather than heatsink for the 2.5watts of heat it generates while writing causing the drive to heat up to worryingly high temperatures of 83c in a mater of a few gigs of data. Because of this it thermally throttle’s in no time capping writes to about 100MBps which all things considered is still really good for a thumb drive but at the needlessly large size of this case (PCB is about 3/5ths the length) its only marginally smaller than a compact NVME enclosure which will not thermally throttle so easily. Overall its an OK drive. Hopefully it wont start throwing write errors like the samsung thumb drive i was using previously for less than a year. Im definitely keeping it 👍 I have attached benchmark results from USB 3.1 Gen 2, USB 3.0, and USB 2.0 ports. ... show more

  • SPEED. it’s so flipping fast when used in the correct port.
Size: 1TB
First things first… a LOT of people don’t know the difference between usb specifications. 3.2 Gen 2 is what this “flash drive” is rated for. I put flash drive in quotes because it’s technically an SSD. anyways, if you put this in a 3.2 gen 1 port (also known as 3.1 gen 1 and just 3.0) you’ll be limited to 5Gb/s. For those that don’t know the difference, lowercase b indicates bits. A capital B like GB/s means bytes. A 3.2 gen 1 port is rated for 5Gb/s which means it’s capped at about 625MB/s. That’s assuming you have 0 other devices connected and give 0 headroom. This isn’t practical in the real world and you’ll see about 350-400. Using a proper 3.2 gen 2 port for 10Gb/s will result in about 650MB/s. On specific benchmark tools you will hit the rates 950MB/s. That’s on synthetic workloads. It does hit the advertised speed. Yes, I made sure that the files I was transferring was larger than the onboard RAM. Anyways, I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this flash drive. For my use case, it speeds up my work immensely and saves me a ton of time. ... show more

  • Great drive with good amount of space
Size: 1TB
I got this USB drive to transfer large files from 1 computer to another. My current computers did not have the ability to use all the speed that the drive uses. Regardless This is a great item.

  • Very cheap made
Size: 1TB
Weak construction for the price. Works as advertised though.

  • I don't think this is really a Kingston drive.
Size: 1TB
I couldn't register this drive for warranty with Kingston because the drive does not have the necessary information on it. I believe it is a fake. I've requested a refund.

  • Poor design. Bad compatibility
Size: 512GB
This drive has a lot of issues. The design of this drive is horrible. The half of the drive that slides forwards (red part) and backwards to cover the port will click out of place and close every time you try and plug it in. It wraps around the sides of the drive too so you have no way of actually gripping the black bottom part to stop it from sliding when plugging it. Had to supper glue mine forward. It has horrible USB booting capabilities and it acts like its running on USB 1.1 when booting on older USB 2 machines. If you write a lot of big files to this drive it throttles after about 8GB to really slow speeds. On top of that it easily throttles and runs at 75C when writing for a longer period. The plastic hosung doesnt help with dissipating heat. Unless you just write files smaller than 8GB at a time and want really fast read speeds, this is NOT the drive for you. ... show more
