  • Extremely Versatile Camera Extremely Versatile Camera
Style: with 12-100 mm lens
Super impressed with this camera. The handheld hi-res mode gives you very detailed 50mp images - great for landscape and architecture. This mode is no joke - it really works! The fact that you can handhold these shots is nothing short of amazing. Olympus is changing the game with their incredible 7-7.5 stops of IBIS, which is the tech behind producing the hi-res shots. Now you get hi-res when you want it but in a micro four-thirds package - longer range, smaller and lighter than a corresponding full-frame camera. The lenses are a lot smaller and lighter. If you don't use the hi-res, then you get a super-fast camera with long-range, which is excellent for sports and birding. The 12-100mm pro lens is a gem. You get unbelievable reach in a fairly small and lightweight lens. The Mark iii performs well in low light. Many say that the micro four-thirds sensor can't compete with full-frame in low light. That would be the case with moving subjects but not with fixed subjects/landscape. The IBIS on this camera is so crazy good you can get sharp handheld images at 1/4 - 1/10 of a second - no need to crank the ISO up when you can shoot at such slow shutter speeds. I have a Leica SL2, which I love, but I find that I am leaving it at home more and more since I picked up the Mark iii. ... show more

Style: with 12-100 mm lens
Having been a Canon shooter for over 10 year, still love them, I was looking to move into the mirrorless gear to save some weight but when I saw how massive their pro level glass was I knew that I would not gaining anything by staying with them. I have used this in studio and outside this camera and lens combination is fantastic. I am very happy I made the switch. ... show more

  • The camera that almost thinks
Style: with 12-100 mm lens
This camera fits the hand well and is a good balance with the 12-100 f/4 Pro zoom. I can concentrate on the picture—not the process of capturing it.

  • Not built for large hands, user interface is atrocious, button placement bad
Style: with 12-100 mm lens
The camera itself takes great pictures (I've seen it via other photographers). I follow many fantastic photographers that get great results from this brand. But if you have large hands like I do, it is not an extension of you. It was a constant struggle to hold on to this camera with one hand for macro photography. Only my first three fingers fit on the grip and button placement is really bad in my opinion. The meat of my palm at the base of my thumb hit over a half a dozen buttons as I gripped the camera. Even holding the camera with both hands was awkward and felt like I was holding a toy. In my opinion, your camera should be an extension of you. It should work for you but I was working a great deal to compensate and figure out basic functions out in the field. Coming from Canon, the menu system is the most ridiculous thing I've ever come across. The interface in this camera looks like it was designed by a monkey on acid in the '80s. The electronic viewfinder was gross in comparison to what Canon gives you. The fonts were that of an old video game, very pixelated looking in comparison. I know there's a lot of people out there that are huge Olympus fans and they are die hard followers of the brand. They will fight tooth and nail in a Ford versus Chevy, Coke versus Pepsi type debate but in the end you have to figure out what works for you. I really wanted this to work because of the light weight nature of the equipment, the weather proof sealing and image stabilization. Had this been my first camera, I might have adapted. It never would have been comfortable in my hands but comparing it to the ergonomics and menu structure and user-friendly nature of Canon, there's no comparison. As I said earlier, I know this gear can put out incredible photos because many people (including friends of mine) put out fantastic quality photos using it. It is just not for me. If you have large hands, you might want to reconsider this purchase. If you are on the fence, go ahead and give it a try. Just know it might be a pain in the butt returning an item this expensive, even with Amazon prime. It took forever for me to get a refund as I bought the camera and a couple of lenses to try out. ... show more
