I saw one of my coworkers had this, and decided to take a look at getting one for myself. It's a very fun desk-toy, and conversation piece. It operates via a magnet. I work in an office with a large conference table, and I have to say that having this as a centerpiece is really fun. I can't count how many people have asked it an important question and then pointed at it and said "See?" It is something people come in and sort of toy with while they chat. Great alternative to the ancient yet entertaining 8-ball. Bought two at the same time. One as a birthday present for a friend my age and the other for my 9 year old son. They both like it a lot. It's an original idea and decorative as well. Anticipation increases as you watch it teeter from one answer to another making it quite fun. Like most novelty items it's not made of heavy metal but it is constructed well for the price. They both came in separate boxes with no problems. The one thing that did give me a slight fright was when I opened the first box to see if all was well with the product and this yellow, nearly translucent spider popped out and flew onto the wall. I did have my ceiling fan on so I think that's what made the spider "move" because on closer inspection it was either a great acting arachnid or it was dead. Not to worry though, it was only about a half inch in diameter and since I have owned tarantulas in the past, my shock subsided quickly. Just be careful when opening packages as you never know when foreign creatures might be hanging out. ... show more

I originally bought this at the Science museum gift store at the pleading of my 9 yo who said she'd use her own money. She and her sisters like this better than the Magic 8 ball because the decisions are better defined. I like it for its modern esthetics, low clutter level and its durability with 6yo hands. Since then, I have purchased this one from Amazon at a cheaper price as part of my 9yo 's friend's birthday gift. ... show more

I bought different things such as these for stocking stuffers for my preteen and teen age grandkids. They loved them..they are cool and keep them using there mind on science and gravity. They love science and like to buy things like this to keep them interested. I would eve get one for myself too.
